Is there a correct way to wear a wristwatch?...Let's see...
I get that question a lot, especially from clients that are buying their first watch or just getting into watch collecting. They want to know if there is a right and wrong way to wear a luxury wrist watch. That's the reason I made this video.
There are many opinions on how how a watch should be worn and people certainly have their own preferences, but I'm going to give you some opinions and suggestions based on my experience. I hope that this alleviates the itch!
One of the theories being thrown around regarding this topic is that a wristwatch should be worn above the wrist bone. I think that's not really etched in stone!
When I wear a watch above the bone, it feels like I'm wearing a pair of jeans all the way up above the bellybutton, which is not very complementary for any male crotch region! Wearing the watch too high up on the wrist is also uncomfortable for some people, since this might cause the crown to dig into their hand.
I prefer to wear the watch on the bone, meaning right over my actual wrist bone. That's my personal preference. Even though this will typically cause the band to oscillate over and under the bone when you move around (especially for metal watches), it always centers back over the bone (at least for me).
If wearing your wrist watch on the bone is not particularly comfortable for you, you can also try to wear it below the bone, the position a luxury watch naturally gravitates to for people who like to wear it a bit loose or when your arm is raised in a vertical position.
That brings me to my next point of discussion: tight or loose?
I know watch collectors that like to remove extra links from the band, so that the watch fits extra tight. I really don't recommend this, but if it inundates your soul with some weird sense of satisfaction, then so be it!
Furthermore, when you wear a watch too tight, it might fit OK when you wake up in the morning, but by the end of the day (and after you've retained a bit of water), it can definitely make you feel a bit claustrophobic!
So I keep coming back back to preference when it comes to how the watch should sit on the wrist. Preference is definitely the most important thing. Nevertheless, I would like to give you some of my guidelines.
* If your skin is tightening up a bit when you close the watch strap, then the watch might be too tight.
* If you can rotate the watch completely around your wrist over your wrist bone, then the watch might fit too loose.
One thing that I would like to point out about wearing a wristwatch too loose is that doing so causes excessive wear and tear on the links. At the same time, wearing it too tight might stretch out the band. You don't really want any of these two things to happen.
Some people also want to know on what hand to wear a watch. I'm right handed, so I wear it on my left (otherwise, it feels weird). But that's something else that's up to you and on what side you feel comfortable wearing it. The same holds true for wearing two watches at the same time (however, this is something that I only recommend if the two wristwatches you choose to wear are very high end models).
Other than that, it's all based on your taste. How do you like to wear your watch, on the bone, over the bone, loose, tight, right hand, left hand, etc.? Let me know in the comments below. Also, comment on the topics that you would like us to cover on future videos!

I wear my watch on the bone, since wearing it above the bone just feels wrong, and kind of impractical, considering you would have to wear your watch really tight that it clings to the skin above the bone so it won't slide down when you walk or drop your arm. I always try to find a happy medium. not tight, and not loose. Just enough breathing room for a bit of space to allow for wrist expansion and temperature changes so it won't cut off my circulation or it won't feel tight and constricting against the skin. this is especially helpful for me cause i live in a hot country. I find that being able to find this happy medium also depends on how the watch itself is built and that no two watches will fit exactly the same. Instead of looking for a perfect fit, I aim for a comfortable one.

I love your setting....are Colombian gangsters about to burst in & light the place up with their "little friends"? I agree with you wholeheartedly btw, anyone who wears their watches above the bone (ATB) are animals. I don't know if something's wrong with me, or what, but I don't seem to have a wrist bone. I'm looking at my arm right now, & it goes arm, arm, arm, hand. No wrist bone...& really, no wrist. Does this mean I'm just manlier than most? Yes, yes it does. Now, onto the tightness category, and please, can we all just be adults here?? Stop it. Are you done now? Alright, listen, first of all, NO BRACELETS. Women wear bracelets. Watches should be on nice leather straps, unless you've got a distinct mission to crush, then it can be rubber or nato. I know guys (I'm making this part up, I don't have any friends) who wear their leather-strapped watches loose. The cool thing about that is, you get to feel it bouncing around all day, until you actually go to check the time at a crucial part of your day, only to find your watch facing away from your eyeballs....boom, no time for you. I know this other guy, he can't stand any movement whatsoever with this watches, so he ratchets those puppies on tight. Lost his damn hand...no blood flow, & his hand just fell off. So, one buddy's got no idea what time it is, and the other's got only his right hand left. Why?? Because they didn't know how to correctly wear a watch. You wear a watch butted right up to where your hand begins, ya know right where your arm isn't your arm anymore, & instead, it's your hand....right there, & then you select a hole (stop it) that provides a snug fit, so your watch is facing the right way, but not so snug that you end up with a hook for a hand. Yes, he opted for the old-school pirate-style hook instead of a modern prosthetic hand. Alright, I'm glad I could help all youz guys....be good to your Motha. Scott Sherman

Slightly above the bone, snug so it will not move, but not tight. You should be able to rotate your hand/wrist in every direction without reduction of motion and without the crown digging into the back of your hand. P.S. wearing a watch on or below the bone just doesn't look right.

It also depends on your wrist style. Some people have a slightly bigger wrist bone, or skinny forearms with no padding on the bones. They can't wear the watch on the bone. They need to wear it above the bone. Also, a loose watch will often tilt and slide and you'll sometimes need to hold the watch with your other hand in order to look at the time. I think that the best way to wear the watch is in the loosest possible way without it sliding on the bone.

it goes above the bone, don't be an idiot. nicer luxury watches wont cut your arm up if it's loose, but cheaper watches will kill you if it's loose. Proper placement is above the bone, snug. Get used to it, that's how they were designed to be made, not loose like a bracelet. Too much moving and it can ruin the movement with the extra shock provided by the extra flick that it being lose has. This man wears good watches, so they're mostly all shock resistant. a lesser brand watch will not be so forgiving if left loose on the wrist.

Great thoughts. The way a person wears a watch also depends on their career/ work activity. I am a retired Marine pilot. Those in jobs requiring physical/ tactical activity wear their watches tight. A sniper is not going to want a watch banging around on his wrist as he sights in on a target. Just like I don’t want to locate and secure my watch if I am timing something mission critical in the cockpit. Like dropping bombs “on time/ on target.” It needs to be right where I can take my hand off the throttle for a split second, chk it and get my hand back to the power/ HOTAS. Those w/ more relaxed jobs can wear their watch differently. Just thought I’d throw in my 2 cents or secs.

You knocked this out of the park once again. I totally agree with everything you said. Me personally I like to be able to fit the tip of my pinky between the watch and wrist, just enough play where its comfortable. Keep up the vids bro.
