I find what you did was a good demonstration. I am no expert, but you will have better results wet sanding if use a bucket of water and sponge to hold your sand paper. Just wrap the paper around the sponge and will avoid lines with your fingers. Always change the bucket water between grits. You may find using one or two steps on finer grit will also help. Finalize with 5000 and then 7000.

Great tutorial. I actually put a DupliColor Perfect Match finish on an acoustic guitar. The color is similar to the one on your car. In the guitar finishing process, it’s typical to end up with an “orange peel” look after all the painting is done, regardless of the type of finish being applied. I’ll use techniques similar to yours during the cutting and buffing process. After correcting some mistakes in my efforts, I eventually got a mirror-like shine. I have another guitar project that’s ready to be cut and buffed. Your video helped refresh my memory. Hopefully I’ll get the same results. Thanks for a great refresher course!

Great video thank you for the education. When you buy extension cords, buy #12 or #10 AWG. The outside jacket is thicker and heavy duty. The wire being bigger can handle the amperage. Long cords = voltage drop, voltage drop = higher current. Higher current burns up smaller gauge wire.

Thank you so much for this very informative video. I recently used spray cans to paint rocker panels. I don't have the bumps. The paint is overall smooth but it doesn't have the gloss to match the rest of the car. A couple of questions: 1) Would 3000, compound, polish be sufficient to bring gloss without needing the lower grits since I don't have bumps? 2) What size compressor did you use?
@maddenmadness2 ай бұрын
If the paint's not that bad I'm sure a pass with 3,000 grit would be all thats needed for wet sanding (if it's needed at all) And i cant remember what size of compressor i used, but it was just a basic smaller compressor that broke shortly after paining the car.

Appears to me, by what you described is that your actual paint has some light covered areas, that became visible once clear coated..and if that's the case it's trapped under the clear, and no amount of buffing/ polishing will correct it. If I'm on the right track, a repaint is required. If you do any other paint work in the future, please make sure your spary overlap passes are 50% - 60% on each pass from the last pass. In general, a car needs a good 3 coats of paint for complete coverage, perhaps more (5) if the paint is of a cheaper quality (watery. Although you can mix more paint, less reducer to combat that sometimes (70/30 ratio, for example). Clear coat needs 3 coats too, 1st a light one, then 2 medium to medium heavy ones (allow flash of 20-30 min between). after a week, u can do sanding / buffing as needed. The main take away, is to not rush the work. Just take your time to get it right. A show car finish can be accomplished in your own garage, but it'll take you a few weeks of labor to get it
@irecruitfish7410Ай бұрын

@@kevink6265 Currently painting my car with rattle cans and getting amazing results (with a lot of elbow grease to make up for lack of skill). Don't cut or sand the paint at all. Just give a good 3 coats of clear (which will orange peel) but let that fully dry and go through this videos process on that and you'll get factory shine on it and you won't see any of the paints texture on there. Bad prep usually, in my experience, results In adhesion problems, but not texture. Texture can definitely be caused by cheap equipment, depending on the specifics, but in my experience it's usually caused by improper spraying technique.
