As a kid, I spent most of the ride on the back wheel. I'm now 53 & I'm gonna practice doing some wheelies again. Of course where no one can see me 👀😉😜 Thanks for the advice 👍👍

Your video is great. I believe a big factor on doing wheelies is also having your pas levels (pas-1) set properly. Can you please tell me what numbers you set on your pas level 1 . Thx.

How do you ever get the wheel up while going downhill? With all that weight on the front wheel and no way to get it back, I can't even get the wheel off the ground on a downhill.
@the__Ultraviolet
@the__Ultraviolet 3 жыл бұрын
@@andytiedye Timing is the key. Pulling the bars and pushing on the padals at right time makes really low effort to get the wheel up.
@andytiedye

@@the__Ultraviolet The bike is going way too fast downhill. Pedaling does not produce any lift whatsoever at speeds over 3 mph in any gear. Nearly all of my weight is on the front wheel no matter what because I'm going downhill. How is timing going to fix that?

MidLifeBiker Yeah that might be the case for some countries, but here in Finland we don't have a lot of bike shops, and I don't know anyone who has an e-bike. And the few bike shops won't probrably be really happy if I go just to test an e-bike and don't buy anything. Thank you for your reply, and have a nice weekend bro!!

Another issue I am having that is specific to the emtb: It is a Shimano system, so there is a clutch. If I coast up to the point where I want to start the wheelie, there is a delay while the clutch engages. That is screwing up my timing bigtime.
@andytiedye
@andytiedye 4 жыл бұрын
If I pedal up to the point, I get going too fast. I must keep my speed under 3 MPH or the wheel will drop. Pedaling and braking simultaneously causes the clutch to randomly engage and disengage.

Been trying on my trance e+ SX lately, I only try it on eco mode (1/5), still way too hard, the motor wants to loop it out as soon as you get to the balance point, maybe I need to ride the back brakes to counter it - seems almost more doable without the motor on, harder to get up, easier to keep up.
@andytiedye
@andytiedye 4 жыл бұрын
I have the opposite problem. I can only get the wheel up about 10-11" in Trail mode, much less than that in Eco and barely at all with the motor off. I will have to use Boost mode despite the difficulty controlling it.

Any tips for those of us who will have to use Boost/Turbo mode? Been trying to pop wheelies on my Pivot Shuttle for the past 4 months, can't get the wheel up high enough in Trail mode, legs just don't produce enough torque. I get both the symptoms of too high and too low a gear, and I can't get my weight back any farther. Looks like Boost mode is my only hope. Do I just have to get really good at feathering the brake?
@richardpowell1389
@richardpowell1389 3 жыл бұрын
Load up suspension first. It'll help with the pop. It's more about timing than raw power. Use the rear brake when you're too far back instead of jumping off the bike.
@andytiedye
@andytiedye 3 жыл бұрын
@@richardpowell1389 I try to do that, but the suspension damping absorbs nearly all the energy I put into it (that is what it is supposed to do, after all).

AVM93 doesn‘t work for me,because the extra weight in the front
@midlifebiker7424
@midlifebiker7424 6 жыл бұрын
Big difference is being in a lower gear. There is less feedback from the cranks on an ebike. I am still at the seated wheelie stage, i think it is much harder to get to the balance point standing up and then sitting down. Seat height helps beginners, higher the seat, lower the front. Takes a while to get used to the weightless feel of the balance point and training your subconscious to adjust and use the back brake. They are addictive though...

MidLifeBiker wheelies take lots of time to learn on any bike and adding the battery weight doesn't help

AVM93, Agreed, same when on the trail with jumps and drops, have to dial in to the bike when switching, extra front weight and motor assist is a different feel to control. I practice a couple of wheelies and hops before I start so its familar..

Enjoy your channel and your how to's on EMTB's. However, i think you are doing a disservice as a professional rider to making it look easy to pull your wheel up on EMTB's. Besides your longer chain stays. There is 40lbs of weight you are trying to pull up, as opposed to 20lbs in a conventional bike. You need to address this, or more new riders will be OTB. Which includes me. Torn rotator cuff.
