The thing I hate about this is I did a lot of this naturally most of my life. I always had no issue making people like me. After awhile, I realized I’m consistently the only one putting work into the relationship. Every relationship… People around me get comfortable and maintain friendship/relationship cruise control, while all the heavy burden of nurturing and tending the relationship falls onto me. One day, I just stopped. Surprise surprise, most the people I considered close friends just vanished. What is the solution to making balanced friendships where you yourself aren’t the anchor to the whole friendship? It’s exhausting and lonely having no one putting work into me the way I put work into others.
@Dutch_Vander_Linde_3 ай бұрын
I suggest making friends in situations where teamwork is needed. Join a sports team where people have to get personal and cooperative. You won't find a sports team where only one person puts in effort. Maybe join a club that you are interested in.

This advice on focusing entirely on the other person is clearly bonkers and doesn’t lead to fulfilling personal relationships. Maybe this advice could be applied to a competitive work setting or something like that, idk. But in general, it can be off-putting when the person you’re talking to is constantly re-directing the focus of the conversation back to you and trying to get to know you without giving you as much detail about themselves. Overall, I’ve learned that the best, most genuine way to make friends, real ones, is to get to know people and their desires while also letting them get to know you and your desires, so that you can see how they line up and help each other fulfill them. Basically, collaboration.

A great way to remember people´s name is to ask them if they know what it means. First because people love to talk about themselves so if you´re asking about their name its a pleasant conversations for them, and also its so much easier to remember a name if the word has an actual meaning and its more likely that you´ll remember the conversation you had with the person about their name. Also if they don´t know you can literally look it up on the spot and it can still be a very interesting conversation and will achieve the same effects of remembering and having a pleasant conversation that will leave a good impression.

@quantlight Daniel Goleman's Emotional Intelligence dives deeply into the nature of human beings. Rather than simplifying it as "humans are creatures of emotions," it distinguishes between the two aspects. Yes, humans are creatures of emotions, but they are also capable of logic. The question is, why do our emotions sometimes take over? How can we manage our emotions effectively? And why do individuals with lower IQs sometimes succeed more than those with higher IQs? This falls within the realm of emotional intelligence.

My ex boss (female) and her boyfriend were the owners of a company that made 1 million dollars a month. And she would use all of these tactics whenever they needed any of us to do something out of our job position. BUT, everyone hated her because she was a horrible person. She probably thought her tactics worked bcz we always did whatever she wanted us to do... but we did it just because she was the boss, and we knew if we said no, she would put us on her black list... which was even worse. I think to be able to "make friend and influence ppl" one just needs to be a kind and honest person.

Annoying when people dont stop talking about themselves.
@cheerstoyouth14 күн бұрын
My main takeaway from this video is that, yes, it's true. If you do all these things, people will find you easier to talk to and you'll definitely be well-liked! The book serves its purpose which is telling us how to "win friends" and "influence" people. But as a person who's been doing these things (because i genuinely find it easier to connect with other people), it kinda leaves some off aftertaste sometimes lol because you're so used to letting them talk about themselves, you kinda forget what to talk about when people ask you stuff. I would dismiss talking about myself as "not a big deal" or "it's not as interesting" but damn! it's bad too for me then ahahah anyways, it's important to find a great balance in how to win people and know how to be open about yourself too.

Being interested in other people makes friends, but doesn't make them interested in you. You just end up being a super giving conversationalist. Sure people like you, but you feel drained eventually after never being asked the type of engaging questions you ask them.
