I think they will, I have a feeling this is a testing field, it might comeback with some tweaked variables for balancing reasons. this game is going to be way too successful for them to want to ignore it. Things not mentioned in the video: - Time pauses briefly when going through pipes and entering new levels. - If you're already super mario, a mushroom will instead give 10 seconds. Fire flowers are worth 15 seconds when picking up as fire mario. - If it's a really tight match, you can spam roulette even while powered up, and the mushrooms and flowers will instead just add to your time. - Kosmic said he wasn't really sure if stomping enemies was worth it much; I have found a lot of value in stomping enemies, with the more consecutive jumps the better, obviously. You can stomp multiple enemies at a time and receive the combo for them. - It might seem like a speedrun, but you should only go as fast as you can safely go. If you are dying a lot before the timer runs out, you may be playing aggressively and may rank better by going slower. - I suppose it's worth mentioning that you can high jump off of enemies like in other Mario games by holding the jump button as you descend onto the enemy. I didn't know this for quite a few matches :X Theorycrafting: - Would it be better to avoid the "good" levels so they remain in your shuffle until you need them the most? I'm not sure how the game decides which level you get next, and maybe there are just far too many players for this to even matter. I think my most cleared is at 14, but I imagine people like Kosmic have done much higher than this. My personal weak point is power-up placement. I still don't know where all the secrets are, so this video revealed a lot of new info for me. Thanks Kosmic :)

Another advice is that the opponents big coins represent 20 coins, which means for every big coin they have, they can use 1 roulette. 5 big coins means, the opponent has at least 100 coins. And another advice I just noticed: You can walk over 1-block gaps! This helps a lot in 8-1, because unexperienced players can walk and shoot fireballs or with other words, you cannot fall in 1-gap pits while moving and don't have to worry about shooting fireballs.

Regarding the selector where to send enemies to, my strategy is when I know there are plenty of easy enemies coming up like Goombas or Koopas, I use Attackers. Then we have a steady loop where we just send easy enemies back and forth to accumulate a lot of time. If I encounter something annoying like Bowser or the hammer bros I use random because I don't want to get them back as soon they kill them. If I got max time I also use random because I don't want to help my opponents to gain more time.
@Kosmicd124 жыл бұрын

If I get a star and nobody is attacking, I like to switch to random for a while and when switching back to attackers, usually more people are attacking. Not sure but I think the opponents using attackers while having noone else attacking them are the ones that keep attacking you even after you target someone else / switch strategy.
@Onionion8524 жыл бұрын
Fireball kills is actually the least optimal for gaining time. Most of the time it gives only +1 for each enemy while stomping gives at least 2 even from a goomba. Even the axe kills bowser with +10 while fireballs only give +5. Also remember that holding the jump button after jumping allows much more air time than the original game. It really helps when you're on a jumping streak which in itself gives tons of time (+9 on the 6th stomp and +10 on the 7th etc.)
@Ron_BWL4 жыл бұрын
Sometimes you can't really afford to stomp enemies, such as when there's Spiny / Piranha Plant on your way. Remember that losing Firepower means you have to spend 20 coins to hopefully get it back or stopping on your way to collecting one, whereas keeping Firepower allows you to gain 10s if you pick them up from the Item Box or on the way.

Something I noticed when playing and watching others play, is that we're spending more time not grabbing coins than grabbing them. in the absence of low time, danger, and more optimal routes (as opposed to going back to get a missed coin, or choosing coins over 1-up), it's always worth it to get every coin you know about
@andrewprahst25294 жыл бұрын
I know from Tetris 99 some stratevy. You should be actively switching your attack method to attackers when you have more than one. If someone is not sending you enemies, you couod manually switch over and switch back, but targeting least time does that job fine.I In Tetris 99the top attack option is best in regular cases, but in Mario I like the right hand option, as people will die pretty easily regardless of time, especially early on.

There's some value in learning when you can just run and jump. Like in 1-3, at the 1st move platform when you run and jump you always land on it and with the 2 moving left and right you can pretty much yolo it. Works for me everytime. Not like when I wait, that's when it goes wrong. And in the castles (at least the early ones) you can pretty much just run and go without getting hit by the firebars (unless there's more enemies than the fireflower can take).
@EmbassyNerdcore4 жыл бұрын
This is true for MOST platforming games, like Mario, Donkey Kong Country. The games are usually set up where if you just go full speed and make those leaps of faith, the enemies won't get you. It's only when you hesitate that you lose momentum and have to worry about timing the jumps better. Like in 1-4 castle, you can just run full speed under the fire beams and they only hit you if you slow down. Mario Bros 3 teaches you this when the Thwomp corridors show up, just run full speed and trust the level designers have your back.

Multi jumps are a very easy way to get up to max time. In the beginning you can set your wheel to attacker and progress through 1-1 slower than the rest. You'll get dozens of goombas to multi jump on and finish the first level with 150+ seconds. 1-2 isn't much harder to this on. Consider that you get 8 seconds at some point for a single enemy. Even if you perform max height jumps, it's more time than you spend. But it's slow progress and thus not flashy :p

How stage select works: Everyone picks a level to add to the 35-level lineup, and then its randomly placed in the same order for everyone. Every time you beat a level, it's never trying to send you to the Actual Game Order, instead you are always taken to the next level in the queue. They make sure to not place the same exact stage back to back, and they try to keep them generally in Actual Game Order if possible, so the later stages happen later in the game you won't be going right from 1-1 to 8-3. WARP PIPES are just jumping ahead in the lineup. From left to right it's [4 ahead] [3 ahead] [2 ahead] and skips the [1 ahead] because if you wanted that stage you just don't warp. This means it IS possible to miss your own pick if you are trying to unlock stages, because there's no way to go back without doing the whole queue over again.
@jacksonbuller17074 жыл бұрын
When I know that I'm about to send a massive wave of enemies, I always target most coins. My theory is that I can hopefully get them to spend money on the roulette earlier in the game, while also sending me enemies to build up time in a controlled environment assuming that they are targeting attackers.

Two pieces of advice I don't see newbies taking: 1. Chain-stomping and shell-kicking are _crucial_ in the early game to build up your time reserves. In this stage of the game, you should be fireballing enemies only in tight corridors where jumping is too dangerous. Once your timer is near the maximum, then you can start being a little more liberal with the fire flower since you won't need to build up quite as much time anymore. 2. Once you've built up your time and coins, start prioritizing levels with tougher enemies if/when you get to the Warp Zone. if you keep looping back to 1-1 and 1-2, the only enemies you'll be sending over are Goombas and green Koopa Troopas, the two easiest enemies in the game. 4-1 and 6-2 in particular are your best friends since Lakitus are by far the toughest enemies to deal with, especially when they start attacking in groups. Just make sure that whomever you send them to isn't targeting you back, since there's a high probability those Lakitus will be coming right back your way if they are.

My strat is to grab many coins as you can in the early stages of the game because its extremely crucial for the later part of the game. When there are 5 players left aka when the music starts going faster just mix strats, meaning start killing more enemies and grab coins if they can easily be reached. When its 1v1. kill as many enemies as you can and start ignoring the coins that take forever to get, like secret rooms or the box that give you many coins.

Thought I'd take the time to add a few tricks I've developed that have yielded massive success for me personally. Listen to Kosmic's advice to improve, but if you are itching for a first place finish, there are a few "cheese" tactics to keep in mind to greatly increase your chance at first. I have around a 55% win rate and I'm not very good at the game - the trick is all in strategy. Learn the levels and practice your fundamentals like Kosmic said, but the trick is to play really, really methodical. Maximize every kill in the game to a reasonable level - go for jump combos, shell kicks and don't be afraid to farm coins from the very start. The idea is to play slow, really really slow - but efficient. Once you manage to hit 400 seconds, the key is to slow to a crawl. Take your time. Look at groups, predict how much time you will get (you will become good at it after 10-20 games) and camp out as long as you can to maximize your time as long as possible in each level while still staying around 400 seconds. Some levels don't facilitate this type of play - typically bowser castles, underwater levels (though don't forget shell kicks) and some other jumpers like 1-3. For these you want to learn how to get out of them quickly without bleeding much time. A hidden benefit to this style of play is in coin preservation - as you are playing carefully, you won't get hit as often. Even though yes you are collecting coins more slowly than a speedy player, you bleed less so it largely levels out. The advantage you have built toward starts to pay off come endgame. Never use warp zones. The key to this is simple - easier levels are prioritized early on by the level selector, so the further back you are, the easier the levels you will have when the red timer starts. Once the red timer starts, you will obviously have to pick up your pace, but still don't panic as in stage 1 you will still find windows where you can camp out. Play it patient, and once you start falling back in time or stage 2 begins, you should finally start unloading your coins. The strategy here changes a little, as stopping time becomes an important tactical consideration. Whenever you make any screen transition or get hit/power up, time stops. You want to utilize this when it makes sense. Don't fret about getting hit by a trickier obstacle, instead of waiting - it's often much better to jump into the target to freeze the timer at least once, if not two or three times depending on the situation. I have beaten some outstanding players that I have no business competing with - trust me, it's dirty but it works. You will never have to leave the easy/farming stages, so you are in a perfect spot come red timer - I'm surprised more people haven't picked up on it yet, but there you have it. Anyway - if anyone read this try it out. You won't improve as fast at the game, and you won't unlock many levels, but your win% will likely skyrocket. I'm sure in a week or so this playstyle will become the norm, but for now you can capitalize on it and get a big bump in performance.
@mithosyggdrasill73994 жыл бұрын
Yeah that’s the trick and I already got 100 wins for now. Still, I like to play harder levels like 4-1 to get Lakitus. In Castle 4-4 you can loop the enemies and use stars or shells to get time everytime. Just take the wrong path. Of course you need some luck to get there but it’s still a good trick. That's really impressive, and I didn't know that but did I also haven't really gotten out of world 3 yet :) I usually only complete 8 or so courses when I win. i like 8-4 because it has a little bit of variety in enemies, there's an underwater section, hammer bros, fireballs... you can go back and revisit areas on purpose by not following the correct route, and it taunts players into sending you enemies because its a castle level, but if you are good enough to have that stage available then you probably are fine on coins and can spam powerups to kill whatever is sent to you. Good players want people to send them enemies.

Close to the end I actually start spamming that roulette, every mushroom'/flower you roll that you already have or better gives you +15 seconds, can make the difference between loosing and winning.

It’s easy to win. I already got 100 wins and sometimes I have 400 sec left, even when the clock are red, and 1000+ coins. Just chill, kill most enemies with jump or shell combo, collect as many coins as you can and only use it at the end when u need it for mass enemies. You don’t need to run all the time. Most time u will have 400 sec left if u do this. ^^

I kind of love that Speedrunners can flex a bit with this new 'Battle Royale' Mario.

I have a strategy to really boost the economy early on. It works like 75% of the time and often gets 2-3 ko very early and you can get easily 150 on the timer, if not 200 just in 1-1. From the start, you take "attackers" and speed rush to the first 2 coins at the beginning in the blocks. Right off the bat you probably will have at least 2 person who targets you, up to 5-6. Then, make sure to speed stomp the most you can while taking coin boxes. You will remain targetted for 1-1. When you get the 1-1 star, you'll already have a bunch of ennemies to kill. Since you're sending a lot of stuff back unto 4-5 people, you often gets K.O as a result :) From there, you can concentrate more on coins, because you will have so much time in the bank early.

Since no one mention about this from what I see so far. Be careful of Hammer Bros if you decided to run pass them. For some reason, it will chase you like a maniac if you dont outrun it far enough. (I guess it because they want to reposition itself back to the right side of the screen.)

3:07 Alright but can I ask how the heck I'm supposed to hit that power-up block? Is there some trick to it? I swear I've seen so many people hit that last power-up in 2-1 without issue and I think I've managed to do it maybe once ever. I've had Mario 35 games where I just keep jumping off that brick block trying to get that power-up until I take too long and the time counter gets the exclamation point and I give up again.

If it's 1v1 (maybe 2) the timer's red, the opponent has a bunch of coins, and you have 400 seconds, wouldn't it be best *not* to send enemies? At that point isn't it more likely that you're helping than hurting?
@ExperimentalGamer814 жыл бұрын
Do you think that if it's down to one-on-one and you have lots of time, it makes sense to stop killing enemies so that you starve your opponent?

@LIES1988GNR4 жыл бұрын
This game is fun but is more like a survivor SMB1 than an actual BR. Though both terms are kinda the same it is really hard to get KOs and rounds take forever, the only way to get rid of people is by waiting if they do any mistake. They pretty much took the concept of Tetris 99 but that game is even better as a BR

Did not win a game in maybe 70 attempts. Best result was third. Watched this video and other videos by you for a couple days while shiny hunting in Pokemon. After I got my shiny, I went back to Mario 35, and won my first game. Mostly thanks to your strats.

Can't you make the roulette instant by pressing x again? And why do you always take the furthest away pipe when there are 2 of the same in the warpzone?
@jake39884 жыл бұрын
The warp pipes simply skip ahead in the queue (from right to left). So if the left and right are the same (middle can't be the same as the others because the queue system does not put identical levels back to back) take the left-most one to skip past all of them. SInce the harder levels are generally pushed towards the end of queue, it allows you to get to them faster. If you don't want to take a slow-and-steady approach and want to go fast, that's a good way to get to harder enemies and eliminate your competition quicker.
