The things that they said are true on how to win a mother's heart. You must always be respectful, NEVER talk about her son, and always be generous. But even though you do these things, there are some mothers who still won't like their son's girlfriend. There are some mother's who are bitter, angry and mad at the world and don't want their son to be in ANY relationship with another woman. Those are the momma's boys. I don't think I can ever date a momma's boy because I just can't deal with unnecessary drama with the mother and also be competitive with her.

I'm respectful, say hello and ask how's she's doing every time I walk in the house, but she rolls her eyes or will just ignore me. And she told her son that she doesn't want me to get pregnant but we're responsible (he's 21 I'm 20 - and on birth control) and mentioned that I don't have a job (correction - I'm a junior in college so I have a full-time job in the summer and focus on school during the school year). He still lives with his mom and she does everything for him and she doesn't like driving so he takes her everywhere. I don't know if she doesn't want to let him go or what but it drives me crazy. I tell him to talk to her but he doesn't. I even offered to cook one day and she told him she wouldn't eat it! It makes me not want to go back to his house EVER.

I honestly believe it was because she realized that I was there to stay and that of course took attention away from her. As a person in a committed relationship where the mom doesn't like the boyfriend, and having tried all these suggestions, I can say with unwavering certainty: you can't force two people to get along. She decided she didn't like him from the beginning, and has been actively criticizing him and our relationship ever since. It's annoying as hell, but he promised me he'd never force me to choose between them. And that's all the reassurance I need from him. Maybe one day everything will settle, but for now we just deal with it day to day. If anything, I'd say it makes our relationship stronger. We're committed to each other and have been for a long time. If this relationship wasn't worth it, he wouldn't backed out long ago. That says something about his character, and how he feels about me. Something the mom just won't see. In the end, that's her loss. He really is a wonderful person, and I'm lucky to have him as a partner.

Yes!! I was in a long distance relationship and I've never even met my ex boyfriend's mum because they lived across the world, but his family and I would constantly text each other, facetime, and talk all damn day. His mum even said: "I'll do anything to marry my son and you." and unfortunately me and my ex ended up breaking up, and it wasn't just the relationship that killed me, knowing that I basically broke up with the family too was the worst thing!
