3:06 to 3:53 superb stance, speed and images 🤙🏼🤙🏼 the board is flying, you were probably more than 30kts on this straight. One other quick fix you did not mention : put your front hand as far back as possible on the boom until you feel uncomfortable. @Mario, I would like to sail as high as you do, 30last cm of the board, but it looks like despite quick fixes and lots of hours on the water, my gear is stuck around 25-28kts. I’ll try to put the mast rearwards another 1cm or 2 next time.

Great video, Mario. I am looking for a cheap and simple GPS waterspeed watch. The one You show in the video looks perfect for me. What is the name of it; price and where to get it?.

Great video! I also try to go faster so it is great if you talk about numbers and what to do to progress beyond a certain speed. I think I need to put mast backwards as I always feel there is power in sail that does not convert to speed. With small chop I have reached almost 48km/h. If you can please also put your speed to the videos. Would be nice to see like oh he is doing 50km/h in such a chop while having such board/sail and wind. One thing is going downwind and doing the speed run, but would be also nice to see what is the normal speed while just riding back and forth.

Hello there. As far as I understand you also should be able to rail your board to have minimum water resistanse, so you should fly on your fin. Is this right? How to train this part of riding? Thanks for the video. It is worth to try this slingshot:)
@MarioKuempel9 ай бұрын
Hi, yes you got it right. This railing happens almost automatically when your gear is tuned for flying.. :-)
@linuso64049 ай бұрын
You need the right fin! The fin can generate lift (nose going up -> reducing dragging surface in the water). With a flexy fin you have a lot of lift, with a stiff fin you have little lift. Don‘t use a fin that is too big, you’ll have too much drag in the water. Use a fin that is big enough to prevent spin outs but small enough to not slow you down. Also thinner profiles are much faster than thick profiles. Just a very rough overview but it’s the most important information👍🏼 Do you have a carbon fin?
@ДмКр-з6с9 ай бұрын
@@linuso6404 yes I have carbon fin, Select Rhino 37 for 112 L Fanatic Falcon. I am actively riding on slalom equipment over 10 years. Do not think there is problem with fin ,it looks like problem is me, my technique. In one of the video Nils said he spent a lot of time and effort to learn how to rail the board properly so that is why I would like to understand where to start. Anyway all the other tips are also helpful.
@linuso64049 ай бұрын
Mhh, i would suggest to try to not put too much weight on your heels when starting to plain. Also your stance is important, bend your backleg (also don‘t put too much weight on it) and stretch your front leg. It will make you go downwind more. And try to put your butt far out. I’m sure you know this, but just to remind: take a big enough sail! You need to be overpowered. But maybe Mario has some more advice

I did 31.49 knots on my JP magic freeride (2016) Point.7 ACZ 5.2 unifiber mast 70% fin 33cm. Weighing 73kg Going downwind in small chop is scary. 1 run i almost felt the board was really only in the water with the fin i was litarly flying. Second day crashed and broke the boom 😅 but lucky sail was okay. Gained some mussle 85kg so gonna try to get 40knots this year. With new board and sails ment for speed

Nice tutorial. When I did my frist speed runs on freerace equipment on our lake about 3 years ago I was immediately reaching 33kt. Since then I improved any aspect (gear and technique). I occasionally went slightly over 35kt. However, I have no idea how to go any faster than that ...
@davemarch18119 ай бұрын
Nice video Mario. Im aiming for 35 knots now on my freerace gear. Do you not rail the board in a slingshot,? Thats only for more speed acrosswind?
@MerijnKegel9 ай бұрын
Speedies don’t rail the board ;-)
@simongodfrey37659 ай бұрын
I see you have Select fins at WindLounge - aren't these too stiff to provide sufficient lift for top speed? I own a Select freerace fin and a Bugg slalom fin and there's a big difference in stiffness.
@MarioKuempel9 ай бұрын
Select fins are of course not the best, a Z or Carpenter is better, but also way more expensive. Selects are quite stiff, wich gives a lot of control, wich is actually not bad for speed. But you might need a bigger one for medium winds to get the lift you want. For pro slalom riders I would not recommend them, more for intermediate sailors!😄
@AlmansorKerroum9 ай бұрын
Could you please explain in your upcoming videos how to make 35kts with stock slalom equipment? I already went faster than 30kts but not faster than 31kts.

I always have the feeling that my front foot slips out of the footstrap (too loose) when I go +50km/h and that makes it a littlebit scary, especially when there's a lot of chop.
@MarioKuempel9 ай бұрын
That’s classic - your fin might not be optimal or Board and sail do not fit together perfectly. A little less downhaul and lower boom also might help!😊

When I’m powered up sometimes my board suddenly would roll longitudinally, is it normal and I should learn to pull on my toes or is there some rigging issue?
@linuso64049 ай бұрын
Roll longitudinally? Do you mean a nosedive? If your nose goes under the water as soon as your gaining speed, that’s a big issue. Not sure if I understood your problem though😅
@thetakburger79289 ай бұрын
@@linuso6404 no, on the other axis. Like it’s suddenly going on the opposite rail of where your feets are
