joe baker thank you for the kind words I really appriciate it. As for the veterans classes we have already started. We're trying to get more contractors on board for a veterans labor share portion. So the vet never is out of work. It's a slow process to get people on board to take our trainees when we slow down but don't want to take any one on that we cannot guarantee full time employment and a journeymans license after they log enough hours. We're hard at it for sure!

First let me say your video is great ! I'm a 71 year old Vietnam vet, and just finished putting a 50 amp sub panel in my garage. My Dad was an electrician all his life, and was dedicated to pounding as much about electricity he could, into my head. I wound up as a self-employed cabinetmaker instead of an electrician, but, every time I moved into a new, larger shop, I did all of my own electrical work, up to, and including 440 volt 3 phase power. Not once did I ever get a complaint from an inspector, for any of my work. ( And yes, I did have proper inspections done, otherwise I would have been unable to get the necessary insurance for the shop. ) My dad always said neatness, neatness, neatness, was of paramount importance, for ease of future troubleshooting, or modifications, and I did receive some compliments from inspectors, as my work was easy to follow. Any way, I just subscribed to your channel, and look forward to future videos. Also, What your are doing for Veterans is beyond commendable, it's fabulous ! Keep up your good work, and best of luck to you in the future !

Want to give you two thumbs up, excellent video. ? When your changing a service panel up grade. There should be a off on switch. Before the service panel. Are you required to contact the local agencies ( power co.) When you plan on doing the service. I would guess so. Of course it depends on local of up grade. Thanks for the insight. Your a natural!!!
@StarvingElectrician5 жыл бұрын
well unfortunately no there is not an off switch. the only way to turn off power to chang out the panel is to remove the meter socket. it simply pligs into the meter housing. the utility company can do it for you but this takes time for on and off but most will say hire an electrician. you clip the tab and open the meter can. the meter socket just pulls right out. edison has flunkeys pulling them out all the time to block peoples power. its not hard at all. take a look and see if you feel confident to do it.

Always check the codes in your area. They are not always the same. In some areas, the ground and neutral wires can't be attached to the same strip. Grounds must be on one side of the breaker panel and neutral on the other side. In some areas, they are even regulating which side the grounds go on and which side the neutrals go on. In some areas, only one wire on one screw is allowed. In some areas, you can't twist the grounds together and put them under one screw. I personally feel like codes have gotten too strict on a lot of this stuff.
@StarvingElectrician6 жыл бұрын
neutrodyne let me try and put this grounding thing to rest. The code is coast to coast. NEC so that's where we start. Ground is defined as an alternate path for current to flow. That's to protect you from being that path. The neutral bar must be bonded to the breaker box unless it's a sub panel and that panel box must be grounded and bonded. There fore the neutral bar is connected to the panel and the panel is grounded and bonded to they are connected together wether anyone likes it or not. The redundant issue of doubling grounds is as easy as this. In a box for wire filll or the amount of wires allowed for cappicity, each current carrying conductor has a value BUT no matter how many grounds you have in a box they only count as one because they carry no current. You can twist together 20 ground wires from different circuits in a plastic box and no one seems to have an issue but in a panel there's a lot of issues. Grounds can be twisted together and under the same terminal in a panel so long as they do not exceed the circular mills rated for that lug. They can share a bus with the neutrals because they are bonded together to protect that path of current. States do vary and yes check on certain things. But grounds together are a universal safety device and since electricity is the same in every state that is universal in its self. All code books are created equal so the application is to be followed the same for every one.
@72strand6 жыл бұрын
Im European and im sorry to say that what you do is horryfying to me. First, naked ground wires, that can make shorts? Not be allowed here. Neutral and ground on same bar? Stupid and dangerous. The most enclosures from US, does have a bonding bolt, that binds the neutral to ground. In this video there is none i guess. Grounds goes to a ground bar, that is mounted directly to the chassis. That way, you can just unscrew the bolt and make diagnostics. Never ever use blades to the wires. There are special tools that only cut 50% och the dept of the shield. Always install GFCI and ARCH fault breakers.

If its a neutral its a grounded conductor. A ground wire is a grounding conductor. Hots are ungrounded conductors. I've been an electrician for 30+ yrs and this guy knows what hes doing. I dont like twisting the grounds together like that though. It makes trouble shooting and repair more difficult. There are lots of lugs to land them on. Give each wire its own little lug to park in.

@@jolancekefreeman7379 well im sure the union has study material. the best book is the code book. get used to looking things up. like look up metal boxes in the back its all alphabetically set up. then you may want to know how big a steel box in concrete is. once you find steel boxes then you scroll down till you find concrete. its hectic but you need to know the code book. I would study over current protection and wire sizes. get to know some of the big ones by heart then it saves you time on looking up small code question. thats a start. good luck!!

Great video. I love how you go straight to it. Not a bunch of bla bla bla'n about shit we don't need to know or want remember. You move fast and make people pay attention. That's what I'm used to... again Great job Bossman 👍💯😎

One of the few Electricians on KZbin that I think is actually professional; that's coming from a 4th year Union Apprentice/Veteran ...

Harrison Mixer wow that’s saying a lot, thank you. I have been in the union for over 25 years. I was a great experience at times but I always just wanted to do my thing. I wasn’t a fan of hitting the road so it got more and more that I wanted to be incroll of my future. I miss the guys but couldn’t stand a bunch of contractors laying me off after a good job to make room for their friends and family. Keep rocking my friend and you are in the best trade out there. What local are you in? Thanks again and take care
