yes you can wire it in parallel and depending on the ohm stability of the amp it wont damage any thing..but the speaker with the lowest impedance will get more power..in series the speakers will act as 1 and will both get the same power..in parallel the amp will see 2.6 ohm

Thank you for your explanation. I have 2 pair (4 speakers) of 4ohm 50 watts (for each pair) speakers, Can I connect them in series to make them work like a 8 ohm 100 watts speaker to connect to one of the channels on my Amplifier that provides 2 channel of 8 ohm, 100 watts?

you might be able to but you have to find out what the amp and speakers are rated at..for example. if the amp is rated at 4 ohm and each speaker is rated at 8 you can twist all the positives and all the negatives together and plug it in

if each speaker is 12 ohm or even 3 ohm as long as the end impedance is above 6 ohm you can wire as many speakers as you want...but all things being equal if the two speakers can handle 60 each go with those..

For some reason I always get these two wiring combinations confused with each other and I'm always blowing out speakers and stereo receivers in my home ... its happened so much in my life time that I got factory KLH speakers :( Everyone says they're horrible and they won't visit me now. Wanting to do 8 full range 8ohm drivers in a line array home theater speaker. To end up with an 8ohm load on my amp, should I wire 4 in a series and and then wire the two groups of 4 parallel to the amp or do the whole array in a series? hey there, I was wondering if there is any way possible to wire two 4ohm drivers and maintain a 4ohm load for my amp (d.i.y. PA system). As these dvc woofers that I'm using require a sizeable amount of power, wiring in 4ohm is ideal as it would allow for 1.5x more power output from my amp than if i wired in 8ohm. If not possible, would I wire in parallel or in series to achieve an 8ohm load? I appreciate your help and for providing these tutorials =)

hay, i've a sony hi-fi stereo(MHC-AV22). If you wire two different speakers (let's say a 20W RMS and a 100W RMS speaker) of the same impedance in parallel, would you have any issues with the 20W speaker being overpowered?

If the two speakers are equal in other respects and their is no crossover network, then they will simply divide the power accordingly. So too much wattage from an amp can cause damage to the lower wattage driver in that scenario.

I haven’t found any information on wiring two 8 ohm speakers in series AND parallel at the same time. What affect would this have on impedance. Honest question here, it’s physically possible so why not cover it? I have googled it with absolutely no answers what the heck? Thanks for the video on standard S/P that is good. in a stereo setup, one is attached to each amp output. What is that called? parallel or series? In most enclosure designers, this is asked. Which would be appropriate for stereo setup?

In stereo applications each speaker is connected to it's own channel. This is neither series or parallel. Those only apply when hooking multiple speakers up to a single amp channel. In that case the type of wiring effects the impedance so knowing the speaker and amp impedance requirements is the most important place to start. chris cordeiro In parallel wiring, the two speakers are hooked together, so as to half the impedance. Two 8-Ohm = 4-Ohm load. In series, the impedance is double. Two 8-Ohm = 16Ohm Load.

+kartman74usa No. If you connect the speakers sin series the impedance adds up 16ohm. If you wire them in parallel they will result in a 4ohm load which may damage your amp.

Or you could just tell him that in parallel would be 2.66 ohms. Pro Audio amplifiers will usually handle a 2 ohm load. Consumer stuff doesn't. Efficiency of the 2 speakers may not be matched, it is likely the 4 ohm speaker will be louder.
