What a lovely mixed media example. In terms of conservancy of the finished piece, while burnt wood alone does not have issues of acid in the wood changing the burnt areas, is it reasonable to be concerned about the ink being affected by the acid in the wood over a long period of time? Thanks for the great demo!
@Pyrocrafters2 жыл бұрын
It still looks good and hasn't changed (at least from what I can tell) after all this time, so I don't think the acid has had an effects on the color. THanks!

Where do you get the ink? What kind of ink should people stay away from and/or look for?

So if i were to be burning a wooden spoon .. maybe i could use food colouring ... just in case they use the spoon to cook ?
@Pyrocrafters4 жыл бұрын
Hey Lisa! That's a great question. It sounds like it would work, but you could also search for a "food safe paint" and see all the options are out there.

Can you use watercolors instead
@Pyrocrafters5 жыл бұрын
Yes absolutely! I'm not as experienced with water colors. And they will leave a layer of color on top of the burn if they aren't thinned enough. It may just be my inexperience with how to use water colors, but in the past I had to go back and reburn over some places where the water color covered it. The inks won't do that.
@dawnabbott37834 жыл бұрын
Great color combo! Does the water not harm the wood at all?
@Pyrocrafters4 жыл бұрын
It depends on the wood. If it’s too thin, it will warp. This canvas is attached to a cradle on the back, so it doesn’t warp. Or if your wood canvas is thick enough, it will be okay. And you can use a heat gun to dry it up before anything warps.

Can you use acrylic paint and/or color pencil for the same effect?
@Pyrocrafters4 жыл бұрын
You can. I have tried those before, the biggest difference is acrylic and water color tend to cover up my burn areas, where as the ink just kind of stains the raw wood. When I used acrylics and water color before, I would be have to go back over my burn areas and clean off the paint and it was kind of a hassle.

Could you airbrush a wood burn I’m new to this and I’m a airbrush artist
@Pyrocrafters4 жыл бұрын
Hey Chris! That's a great question! I have never used an airbrush on the wood before, so I'm not sure. I don't see why not, except that the paint may cover up some of your burn area. It's definitely worth experimenting with though. Maybe try it on a scrap of wood (with a burn) first and just see what happens.

Thanks Candice! I just started playing around with alcohol inks. I'm learning how to use them now, they are different from regular inks. They dry so fast! But they are super fun to play with. :)
