I think they fit into the category of sociopath more but thank you for stating its a spectrum which most people ignore.

While a psychopath cannot achieve a truly bond with other people and doesn’t feel any kind of remorse or sympathy. Sociopaths tend to create bond and feel guilt when they do something they know is bad but is needed for their accomplishment. An example for a famous psychopath could be Patrick Bateman or Louis Bloom. An example for famous sociopaths would be Sherlock Holmes or Tony Soprano I think both Homelander and Butcher fall into the middle of both of this mental health condition. Meaning not being a 100% psycopath neither a 100% a sociopath just a point in the middle

It's really hard to diagnose fictional characters, since no matter how much they're explored, they're ultimately not real people with the same depth and experiences as a real person. But I think it's appropriate to call Homelander a narcissist. Butcher is just an anti-Supe bigot who believes the ends justify the means when it comes to killing Homelander and ridding the world of Supes.

Yeah, I can believe there are people who think Homelander is a hero. MAGAs exist, after all... and Homelander practically IS a hero compared to - well, their Glorious Leader...!

Other examples could also be found in Watchmen: I love The Comedian, but he is most definitely a psychopath, and Nite Owl might seem a goodie two shoes but he makes nasty choices to benefit himself when the opportunity arises. The Comedian then serves as a mirror, to point at their hypocrisy.

Homelander is a sociopath and he’s the personification of the far right just like Killmonger from Black Panther is the personification of the far left. They are completely evil. They lure you on because they are physically attractive and played be amazing actors.

I don’t think that Butcher is the protagonist. Hughie is the protagonist. Butcher is the toxic boss that’s going insane from his competition with his biggest rival.

Discord is outta the question- it literally crashes every phone and computer I've ever used to connect. However, I am Death B 4 dessert (all one word) on Reddit, creator and author of the SkyKnight series of books. I would love to discuss writing a psychopath... it's not as easy as it seems.
