Writing a solid artist statement will help your potential buyers know more about your artwork AND help you freely give a short and captivating presentation anytime you find yourself in front of an someone.... say an elevator??
My Personal Artist Statement:
I paint abstract paintings intuitively by embracing spontaneity to allow passionate paintings to be born through a transforming layering process (perhaps up to 10 or more layers) of acrylics, markers, graphite, inks and more. Each layer informs the next story of paint like a whisper in my mind to inspire my brush or fingers to move across the canvas or paper. In addition to the layers of paint, often you will find mixed media like sand, coffee, glass beads or perhaps even a gum wrapper invoking the question of what story is being revealed. I paint what I feel, how I feel, where I have been, and each found object in my art continues that story.
The art I create are visual expressions of my inner soul, spirit and passion. Once a corporate entrepreneur trapped inside a suit and wearing heels, the desire to put my feelings, thoughts, and emotions on canvas became too powerful. The life-changing event that turned the corporate pen into a paintbrush was the dark world of Alzheimer’s that struck my mother. I could not wait any longer to paint in the event that world captured me as well. Leaving the boardroom behind, what has emerged is a new language expressed on canvas. This language expresses the freedom and unbound passion to create and let my art direct itself without fear or influences that has previously stifled my voice. I feel a personal connection with each piece I create. I paint with depth, emotion and passion in hopes that you find a connection to my work and might, if only for a moment, become captivated and feel something stir within yourself.
Constantly moving around the world, staying in one place no longer than three years at one time, living in the back of a musician’s studio, provided the emotional depth that I tap into for my paintings.

Me too Cheryl~!! Looking forward to your live painting on canvas next week! I describe myself as a Mixed Media Collage Artist. Whether it's watercolor or acrylics or a combination, I just can't seem to do an art piece without smashing some glue and paper on it!! Ha!! 😅 As far as Artist's Statements go - Every year, as a Member, I put something up at our local Art Museum around the Holidays. Every year I have to write a new Artist's Statement and think of a Title! 😮 This last year, I noticed than many other Artists that are participating in the show don't do one; so I thought Okay!! I won't do one anymore either! But now after this week's SAGE Advice from you - I have decided to go ahead and keep writing them. I see now how it really is important! Thanks so much!! ❤😊

it was so nice to hear from you. I am sure you know, but your over artist statement should not change that much from year to year, but if you are doing a series of artwork, or a grouping, that is why they are asking for one every year and a title. I did several videos on this, but I always do my artist SERIES statement early on to help guide me in my direction in creating my pieces. The title might change a bit to become more tuned in. I feel to do this is important as it shows you as an artist that is really understanding your journey, taking charge and I honestly feel you will grown from this!! Thank you for this presentation. I love your artist statement that you have written below. I’m sure it’s a user error, but I wasn’t able to figure out how to use the code and get the discount. I am still defining myself as an artist so the best word I could come up with is multidisciplinary.

Most of us are still defining ourselves!!! Once you reach out on Payhip it does ask for a coupon if you have one, but if you can’t figure it out that’s OK. One thing I did learn to working with collectors is sometimes we as artist understand a term, but those that are not familiar with the art terms don’t understand, but if you break out a list of other words to help define multidisciplinary I’m sure you’ll be fine, I can’t wait to see what you come up with
