The Dark Type Attack should've been damaging and called "Hit and Run" Though it would be interesting to see Baton Pass-esque moves and those with specific effects. Like say... "Scorched Earth" Which returns back and creates a 1 or 2-turn Fire-Type environmental hazard that damages any non-Fire Type switching in, and can trigger Flash Fire? Or "Ink and Flee" which might be exclusive to something like Octillery and be a non-damaging accuracy reducer? Or "Slipstream" a tailwind-esque non-damaging move that boosts speed by 1, and is priority 1, allowing the user to potentially escape a devastating attack, but if the opponent uses a switching move too will put you at a disadvantage? Or maybe a Flying-Type sound-based attack called "Sonic Boom"?
@eclipse97273 жыл бұрын
Hit and Run... idk, I don't think GF would call it that, but have it be an attack wasn't the problem. It was mainly the pokemon that learned the move wasn't too large and given to the higher tier mons. Scorched Earth feels even worse than SR in my opinion, as it's a switch move that lays a hazard down. Even if it's for 1-2 turns, it makes the opponent predictable for those turns, allowing someone to use it easily to setup or ko something. Especially since you scout out before laying a trap. Ink and Flee... naming aside, it would be good for them... and also annoying as hell cause accuracy drops suck. Slipstream... A Priority Switch Move. That sounds disgusting. And +1 Speed? No. Just no. Finally, Sonic Boom. We already have a Sonicboom move, and even with the space in yours, it would be confusing to tell them apart. Well... while I'm here, here's my idea of a Flying Type Switch Move: Backdraft (40 Power, 15 BP). Users deals damage and switches the user out. The pokemon that replaces it is safe from all entry hazards for that move.
@TheTaintedWisdom3 жыл бұрын
@@eclipse9727 With regards to Scorched Earth, I was actually leaning more toward the idea that the entry hazard would affect *both* mons/the player exclusively. Make it so that the player can activate Flash Fire on a whim, but also set up a temporary entry hazard that can screw *themselves* over if they try to use it recklessly. Also, yeah, I forgot that Sonicboom already existed.

On that my idea for a new hazard and to give the steel type a nerf Tempering embers Fire type Same Power points as stealth rock Opposing Pokémon that are resist fire get burnt and take no damage When neutral to fire: no burn but 20% damage(The hazard here wasn’t as overburdened) When weak to fire: 20% damage and a burn Quad resist fire: Badly burnt(Half base power off physical moves and halved attack stat as well. Bypasses the guts ability as well as flash fire.) Quad weak: 25% damage and the badly burnt effect The forge fire is extinguished by rapid spin and Defog as well as these conditions: Super effective surf(Bulky waters in mind) Heat crash Rain dance+Resist Distribution: all fire types expect for Ho-Oh. Volcanion(That thing already has a move that is a stronger scald with STAB this would be potentially stupid with that.), can be used by Mew(Obvious reasons), and Clefable(Idc if this pushes Clefable into Ubers off of a utility set being too punishing when something is forced out from this and stealth rock.) Also Smeragle can get this due to Sketch being a thing. Edit: Fire types get a free flash fire boost from this hazard(Even if they don’t have that ability) and +1 attack and Special Attack with +2 Speed with their next fire move getting +2 priority.

Nice. Let's wait your audience finally understands why hazards are a neccesity for single-games, because switching/pivoting without punishment is easily one of the biggest problems in Pokémon, and is also one of the reasons the current OU format is heavily bulky.
@SPZ-gv2on3 жыл бұрын
The current OU is so bulky because every team that isn't hyper offence has to have a physdef clef/buzzwole to not get 6-0ed by banded urshi and every team needs a blissey/mandibuzz/ttar for spectrier and those mons are strong enough to where they need dedicated counters at high health, meaning you normally need at least one more defensive piece to not get run over by their teammates. You need a super bulky/regen core to deal with the top threats unless you run HO which is an inconsistant playstyle that a lot of people don't like using. Bulky mons end up lasting longer and getting knock-offed especially on stall teams making boots and therefore no punishment on switches only good for balance which is the best team style to deal with urshi/spec.

thanks so much for this, brings back so many fun memories. I cant imagine how much time it took to dig through old clips to find the corresponding 2 pokemon using the precise moves you talk about, awesome job

I can't believe you didn't talk about Parting Shot in Gens 7 and 8! Of course, it doesn't do damage, and not many Pokemon have it, so it's pretty niche. But come on, Incineroar has it!

I think you forget two big things about Parting Shot: the 1° is Z-Parting Shot who was a Lunar Dance type of move (recovering all hp and status of the consequent pokemon) whitout killing the pokemon that used it, and 2° in gen 7/8 was more gived to much variety of pokemon like Incineroar and Obstagoon... Nice video and high quality as always...

I seriously want Forretress to learn the move "U-Turn"!🔁 Instead he gets "Volt Switch" which is not bad but also not STAB, not physical and Ground type's free switch-in!⚡
@SPZ-gv2on3 жыл бұрын
Volt switch is a little better in some situations for it because it wouldn't do much more damage on such a low attack pokemon anyway, and volt switch doesn't trigger flame body/static/rocky helmet/rough skin which would all cripple forretress, with most ruining it's sturdy. U turn would be nice on it but volt switch would still see usage.

One of my favourite moves of all time is U-Turn! 😃 When I first played gen 4 games, I was surprised with its power and effect, not to mention how easy it was to get the TM.

Sounds like pursuit needs to comeback with a slight rework along with other moves similar to it. Maybe give shadow tag and arena trap to more mons?
@hoanganphanle2 жыл бұрын
I know that this comment is one-year old, but Did you have the slightest idea about how broken trapping abilities were ? Wobbuffet got banned to Uber even before Garchomp solely because of that ability, same deal with Mega Gengar and Gothitelle. Heck, even in Balanced Hackmons, where you could even run something like Impostor Chansey, Shadow Tag was banned and Gengar was forbidden to hold a Gengarite because of that.

No it would be uber, since it’s low speed
@hoanganphanle2 жыл бұрын
@@crimsoncharizardx9853 because of its low speed, and good defensive typing that has only one weakness, U-turn is even better, as it allows a safe switch in for its teammate. That's the whole idea of a "slow pivot"

The moves greatly impacted doubles as well since you can break a sash and immediately intimidate the mons on the field.

2:50 But wait, there's a bug where if you have a choice item on a Pokemon that used U-turn and switched into another Pokemon that also has U-turn and a choice item, they're automatically locked into U-turn without selecting a move.

I really like switch moves in general, I usually have 1-2 members of my teams that can do it and even when I don't(usually on non serious teams) I can't say switch moves bug me at all; if anything I appreciate the mind games they bring in, especially since I've nailed several pokemon switching in on a predicted u-turn/volt switch
@FunnyMemes-dr3se3 жыл бұрын
Teleport used to do nothing before Gen 8 I believe.
@leoxesyude20213 жыл бұрын
It originally worked like the Poke Doll or Fluffy Tail item in that it would let you run away from a wild Pokémon battle. Unfortunately it never got the buff that moves like Roar and Whirlwind got and so didn't work in trainer battles until Gen 8.
@jkjack07423 жыл бұрын
While it is frustrating when they hit and run, it is INCREDIBLY satisfying when you read the switch and hit the tag with the right move and ko it. I predicted once a scizor coming in to replace a pokemon that was weak in doubles. Had my Blaziken flamethrower it while my other pokemon took out the legendary. Felt really good getting that double ko

I was thinking Alolan Persian, myself, but otherwise yeah, same here. Maybe Z-Parting Shot was better in doubles, or lower tiers, or something?
@mhx50713 жыл бұрын
Its a full heal+debuff+pivot so it was quite good in both singles and doubles
@SPZ-gv2on3 жыл бұрын
It was okay in lower tiers but z-moves were best at blowing holes in teams. It was a good effect but insane damage was just flat-out better on most teams and you had to chose.
