I imagine that she had an innate sense for what she'd need every day, so on the final day when she probes her feelings for what she'll need, she feels she'll need nothing, so goes seemingly entirely unprepared, only to find that the reason she wouldn't need anything, is because he brought everything, including the only two things she'd need that day. An Umbrella, and his company under it.

Maybe the first three times she has a cold or a virus-- "six feet apart." He didn't care until he learned that parachutes sometimes do help when you know falls are imminent.

maybe I'm overanalyzing but I saw this as a metaphor for their relationship progression. He met her and was totally unprepared for the feelings that she would ignite in him, so he got figuratively "caught" in the weather that symbolizes his emotions. These get stronger, notice how the weather goes from some rain to a sudden tsunami, and he gets (figuratively and literally) swept away. She however, was inmune to all these feelings, and went through life as if nothing had happened because she was prepared and armed against the weather conditions beforehand. this continues until he decides that maybe he too should protect himself against these huge unexpected weather conditions (meaning he repressed his feelings), but just then, she comes completely unprepared (meaning she too develops feelings for him), and so they brave the weather together. Love this animation with all my heart. Edit1: Damn I never thought my comment from 3 years ago would get that much attention. Gods I was smart then. Edit 2: It’s been 5 years since this comment and I got the notification that someone had responded. I said this at 17, i am now 22 and I’ve struggled with so much since then it’s not even funny. reading the responses and seeing that I actually made people around the world appreciate something that they otherwise wouldn’t have, or that i made them see it in a new light means so much more than any of the commenters will ever know. I’ve been constantly doubting my capabilities, my brain, who i am as a person for years, and this was like a small ray of sunshine. Thank you. Also the dude who responded "so he got wet at the first one" takes me by surprise every time I revisit this over the years, and every time it never fails to make me laugh. Fuckn legend.

A group of older Japanese men were the first to volunteer to go into Fukushima to work in the radioactive fall-out zone & save the plant-- to extend the life expectancies of their younger counterparts. I think they still end up needing most of the relatively younger middled-aged workers but it was the thought-- the sense of sacrificing one's- selves saving their communities-- highly organized ethics & love at its highest form. I see it as this. The guy internally feels he isn’t prepared to partake in a relationship (him being unequipped with anything but himself) and the natural events that happen is just a analogy of his uncertain confidence and emotions. Where as she is ready for any circumstances (the umbrella and gear representing her confidence in herself) that can come up in a relationship may be from experience . He in his interest in her, over prepares himself to the point that it becomes redundant (he finally showed a confident smile and engaged.) In the end, he was always ready for a relationship. The illusion of him being unprepared before was his own thinking getting in the way.
