I absolutely believe that, when it comes to pipeline work 798 is the Topps and Miller definitely needed 798 to approve and now it seems lincoln is more intertwined with 798 more now than ever. I too am a UA member local 322 so nj and have been welding for 35+ yrs and now I'm an instructor in a vocational school in nj. Love the videos keep them coming, class act all the way.

I’ve welded with both, gotta say I’ve put both a vantage and a 400 pro through the ringer in both extreme hot and extreme cold environment with stick, tig, fluxcore, and CAC. Those miller 400 pros are impressive and that’s what I settled with. Just my humble opinion, miller 400 are very good machines.

I use to run a Vantage now a Miller pipe pro so many issues with it but it does lay a nice root pass

I welded with one in early 70s I was surprised by how smooth and buttery it welded but for some reason even back then you never saw them on a job……..just Lincoln’s and some millers…….but no one wanted to weld with millers. Old Lincoln’s being bought sold and rebuilt every day in America. Try and find an old miller machine to rebuild. You can’t even find one, and if you did there are no parts for them. Kind of tells you what you need to know! Thank you

NO, NOT AT ALL. WHAT IM SAYING IS THAT MILLERS ENGINE DRIVEN WELDERS USE TO BE JUNK!! THE WELD PUDDLES WERE LIKE WELDING WITH WATER, YOU COULD NOT STACK ANY IRON, AND THEY WERE UNRELIABLE . THATS WHY YOU DONT SEE ANY OLD MILLERS BEING BOUGHT SOLD OR REBUILT LIKE LINCOLNS . MILLERS WERE NOT EVEN A CONTENDER EVEN THOUGH THEY USE TO BE CHEAPER TO BUY. WHAT IM SAYING IS THAT THEY WANTED TO MAKE A MACHINE THAT WOULD HAVE THE WELDING CHARACTERISTICS OF THE MUCH LOVED RED FACE LINCOLNS , BECAUSE THOSE MACHINES HAD SET THE STANDARD AND WAS BEATING THEM BADLY!
