Μια μικρή παρατήρηση: προφανώς αναφερόσουν στην γοητεία του εθνισμού και όχι του εθνικισμού.. Η διαφορά είναι αισθητή, ελπίζω να αντιλαμβάνεσαι τι εννοώ.

@@agathachristieenglanduk1125 Επίτρεψε μου να απαντήσω με την αντιγραφή ενός άλλου σχολίου που άφησα: Αυτό είναι κάτι που το συζητήσαμε εσωτερικά, και αποφασίσαμε να κρατήσουμε τη λέξη στο βίντεο ως έχει. Νομίζω ότι ο εθνικισμός έχει αποκτήσει μεν αρνητική χροιά αλλά δεν έχει εξ ορισμού αρνητική έννοια. Είναι το όνομα ενός συγκεκριμένου ρεύματος σκέψης, μιας ιδεολογίας που αναπτύχθηκε τον 18ο και 19ο αιώνα και γέννησε τα έθνη κράτη που αντικατέστησαν τις αυτοκρατορίες, καθώς οι υπήκοοι βασιλιάδων και αυτοκρατόρων άρχισαν να αυτοπροσδιορίζονται πρωταρχικά ως υπήκοοι και μέλη ενός συγκεκριμένου έθνους αντί για υποτελείς ενός αυτοκράτορα ή ακόλουθοι κάποιας θρησκείας. Επίσης, ο εθνισμός και ο εθνικισμός μεταφράζονται (απ' όσο ξέρω) και οι δύο στα αγγλικά ως nationalism. Οπότε, όπως το βλέπω εγώ τουλάχιστον, δεν είναι διακριτές έννοιες, απλώς η δεύτερη αποτελεί ακραία μορφή της πρώτης, τουλάχιστον στο πώς συνηθίζει να αναφέρεται σήμερα.

@@Diongreco Ο Εθνισμός και ο Εθνικισμός αποτελούν δύο ξεχωριστές έννοιες που συχνά μπερδεύεται η σημασία τους και καλό θα ήταν να μην τις συγχέετε. Σύμφωνα με το λεξικό του ειδικευμένου γλωσσολόγου Γ. Μπαμπινιώτη: Εθνικισμός: Η υπερβολική και αποκλειστική προσήλωση προς την ιδέα του έθνους και των εθνικών ιδεωδών, με κύριο χαρακτηριστικό τη διάκριση των εθνών σε ανώτερα και κατώτερα και τη διάθεση επιβολής των πρώτων στα δεύτερα (πβ. λ. σοβινισμός,) Εθνισμός: Η συνείδηση ότι ανήκει κανείς σε συγκεκριμένο έθνος ° επίσης, το πατριωτικό αίσθημα το οποίο προκύπτει από αυτήν. Νομίζω ότι είναι απλά θέμα άποψης και προοπτικής το πότε ο η προσήλωση στην ιδέα του έθνους γίνεται «υπερβολική» και «αποκλειστική». Ένας εθνικιστής δεν θα θεωρήσει ότι η προσήλωση του είναι υπερβολική, όπως και ένας «εθνιστής» (προτιμώ τη λέξη πατριώτης γι' αυτή τη χρήση).

Νομίζω ότι όλα τα βίντεό σας είναι πολύ χρήσιμα για όσους μαθαίνουν αυτήν την όμορφη γλώσσα, αλλά αυτό έχει μια άλλη σημασία. Ως άνθρωπος που γεννήθηκε στην άλλη πλευρά του Αιγαίου και που προσπαθεί να μάθει (μαθαίνει;) ελληνικά, ελπίζω ότι ο αριθμός των ατόμων που σκέφτονται σαν έσας θα αυξηθεί όχι μόνο στην Ελλάδα και στη Τουρκία αλλά και σε όλο τον κόσμο. On the Dodecanese islands we have a third big holiday with parades,that is the 7th of March, because the Dodecanese only became free in 1947 and they celebrate the ενσωμάτωση, the unification with the Rest of Greece.

Σας ευχαριστώ πάρα πολύ για το βίντεο. Μου άρεσε πολύ η ανθρωπιστική οπτική γωνία σας. Εγώ είμαι Φινλανδός φιλέλληνας από το 1975 και δάσκαλος της ελληνικής γλώσσας και του πολιτισμού. Είμαι όμως και διεθνιστής. Όταν το διαστημόπλοιο Voyager 1 ετοιμαζόταν να εγκαταλείψει το ηλιακό μας σύστημα, με πρωτοβουλία του διάσημου αστρονόμου Καρλ Σάγκαν - λίγο πριν κλείσει για πάντα τις κάμερές του - το Voyager τράβηξε μία σειρά 60 φωτογραφιών του Ήλιου και έξι πλανητών του ηλιακού μας συστήματος. Ανάμεσα στις φωτογραφίες αυτές, περιλαμβάνονταν η εικόνα της Γης από απόσταση 6 δισεκατομμυρίων χιλιομέτρων: Μία δυσδιάκριτη «χλωμή μπλε κουκκίδα» (Pale Blue Dot), μεγέθους μικρότερου του ενός pixel, ριγμένη στο κενό και κρυμμένη πίσω από τις διαθλάσεις του φωτός. Μία μικροσκοπική νησίδα ζωής, χαμένη στην απεραντοσύνη του Διαστήματος. «Από αυτό το μακρινό σημείο, η Γη μπορεί να μην παρουσιάζει ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον. Αλλά για εμάς είναι διαφορετικά» έγραψε το 1994 ο Καρλ Σάγκαν (Pale Blue Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space). «Σκεφτείτε ξανά αυτήν την κουκκίδα. Αυτή είναι εδώ. Αυτή είναι το σπίτι μας. Σκεφτείτε τα ποτάμια αίματος που χύθηκαν από όλους εκείνους τους στρατηγούς και τους αυτοκράτορες, ώστε -με δόξα και θρίαμβο- να μπορέσουν να γίνουν στιγμιαίοι άρχοντες ενός κλάσματος μίας κουκκίδας. Σκεφτείτε τις ατελείωτες βαναυσότητες που επέβαλαν οι κάτοικοι μίας γωνιάς αυτού του pixel στους κατοίκους κάποιας άλλης γωνιάς του. Πόσο συχνές οι παρεξηγήσεις τους, πόσο πρόθυμοι είναι να σκοτώσουν ο ένας τον άλλον, πόσο ένθερμο το μίσος τους. Η φανταστική σημασία που δίνουμε στον εαυτό μας, η αυταπάτη ότι έχουμε κάποια προνομιακή θέση στο Σύμπαν, αμφισβητείται από αυτό το σημείο χλωμού φωτός. Ο πλανήτης μας είναι μία μοναχική κουκκίδα στο μεγάλο κοσμικό σκοτάδι που τον περιβάλλει. Στο σκοτάδι μας -μέσα σε αυτήν την απεραντοσύνη- δεν υπάρχει καμία ένδειξη ότι θα έρθει βοήθεια από κάπου αλλού για να μας σώσει από τους εαυτούς μας. Η Γη είναι ο μόνος κόσμος που γνωρίζουμε μέχρι στιγμής ότι φιλοξενεί ζωή. Δεν υπάρχει πουθενά αλλού όπου μπορεί το είδος μας να μεταναστεύσει, τουλάχιστον στο εγγύς μέλλον. Να επισκεφθεί, ναι. Να εγκατασταθεί, όχι ακόμα. Είτε μας αρέσει είτε όχι, προς το παρόν, η Γη είναι το μέρος όπου θα αποδείξουμε τη στάση μας. Έχει ειπωθεί ότι η αστρονομία είναι μία ταπεινή εμπειρία που οικοδομεί χαρακτήρες. Ίσως να μην υπάρχει καλύτερη απόδειξη της ανοησίας των ανθρώπινων αλαζονειών από αυτήν τη μακρινή εικόνα του μικροσκοπικού μας κόσμου. Για εμένα, υπογραμμίζει την ευθύνη μας να αντιμετωπίσουμε πιο ευγενικά ο ένας τον άλλον, και να διαφυλάξουμε και να αγαπάμε τη χλωμή μπλε κουκκίδα. Το μόνο σπίτι που έχουμε γνωρίσει ποτέ». Θα σας πρότεινα ένεκα των εορτασμών, να διαβάσετε μερικά μικρά αποσπάσματα απο τα απομνημονεύματα αγωνιστών του 1821. Έτσι ωστε να ακούσουν οι φίλοι του καναλιού την αφιλτράριστη φωνή και τα ζητούμενα αυτών των ανθρώπων. Δείτε το σαν φωνές απο το ελληνικό παρελθόν. Παραθέτω ενα μικρό απόσπασμα απο τα απομνημονεύματα του Μακρυγιάννη, έτσι για να έχουμε μια μικρή ιδέα τι γιορτάζουμε. Το απόσπασμα αφορά ένα περιστατικό που συνέβη ενώ ο Μακρυγιάννης ήταν ακόμη μωρό. ''Σε κάμποσον καιρόν έγιναν τρία φονικά εις το σπίτι μας και χάθη και ο πατέρας μου. Οι Tούρκοι του Αλήπασσα θέλαν να μας σκλαβώσουνε. Τότε δια νυχτός όλη η φαμελιά και όλο μας το σόι σηκώθηκαν και έφυγαν και ήθα παγαίνουν εις την Λιβαδειά να ζήσουνε εκεί. Θα πέρναγαν από ’να γιοφύρι του Λιδορικιού ονομαζόμενον Στενό, δεν πέρναγε από άλλο μέρος το ποτάμι. Εκεί φύλαγαν οι Tούρκοι να περάσουν να τους πιάσουνε, και δεκοχτώ ημέρες γκιζερούσαν εις τα δάση όλοι κ’ έτρωγαν αγριοβέλανα και εγώ βύζαινα κ’ έτρωγα αυτό το γάλα. *Μην υποφέρνοντας πλέον την πείνα, αποφάσισαν να περάσουνε από το γιοφύρι, και ως βρέφος εγώ μικρό, να μην κλάψω και χαθούνε όλοι, αποφάσισαν και με πέταξαν εις το δάσος*, εις τον Κόκκινον ονομαζόμενον, και προχώρεσαν δια το γιοφύρι. *Τότε μετανογάει η μητέρα μου* και τους λέγει, «Η αμαρτία του βρέφους θα μας χάση, τους είπε, περνάτε εσείς και σύρτε εις το τάδε μέρος και σταθήτε... το παίρνω κι’ αν έχω τύχη και δεν κλάψη, διαβαίνομεν»... η μητέρα του κι’ ο Θεός μας έσωσε. Great video.. As a Turkish young boy at the other end of the Aegean Sea, I felt almost the same feeling about our parades interestingly enough?!? I also don’t know whether Republic of Turkey will survive another 100 years ( With current rulers, I think 29 October 2023 will be a very difficult time at our 100th anniversary of establishment of the new Turkish Republic.. ). I certainly hope that both countries will come to reasonable terms and respect each other’s interests without any hatred. Because we Turks and the Greek have fought since 1071 (Battle of Manzikert) and I guess that’s more than enough for any two countries anywhere 😒 I personally want you to visit and pray in Hagia Sofia freely.. For my understanding; If it’s open for prayers as a Mosque on Fridays, it can be arranged to hold Orthodox Masses on Sundays surely ?? I also want to visit Ataturk’s house in Thessaloniki or visit many great places with joy and respect, without any hate symbols against Turks, likewise.. One day I certainly believe we will have people in charge like you and me .. ​@@stratvar I am also in my early 40's and raised as a very fierce nationalist. But I was intellectual enough to be able to see there are many great provocateurs in both sides of the aisle. Hope that we as Turks and Greeks don't fall to any imperial deeds of 3rd parties, although it seems very hard these days unfortunately.. :( . You know, in any warfare (or hostility in general), it really does not matter which side "wins". The losers will be our next generations, which I never would like to see.. Sidenote : I checked all records, the two mighty "baklava countries" have never ever fought for who's best .. I think this is not a debate to be handed over to any political actors.. We might have another war then.. LOL ! :) P.S. There are two non-negotiable facts ; 1- Best voices are from Greece ( Female: Haris Alexiou / Male : Demis Roussos ). 2- Best baklava is from Turkey.. Ι have read a couple of books about the Greek Revolution, my favorite being the amazing Greece: 1453 - 1821 by David Brewer. I just don't feel confident I can cover the topic well enough in just a small video. Maybe sometime in the future. In the meantime, if your Greek is good enough, I can recommend the work of the historian Maria Efthymiou, who we mention on Thursday's podcast. I know it's not the same, of course it isn't, but in her lectures she really brings out the ins and outs of the period in a very vivid way. They really deserve English subtitles.

The parades , student or military,is the least we can do to honour the people that sacrificed their lifes and their youth to liberate us from a slavery of centuries and give us the opportunity to wonder today if the parades are right or not ! Νομίζω πως πρέπει να αναφέρουμε πως η γιορτή της 25ης Μαρτίου συμπίπτει με την μεγάλη Χριστιανική εορτή του Ευαγγελισμού της Θεοτόκου, δηλαδή το μήνυμα του αρχάγγελου Γαβριήλ στην Παναγία ότι είναι έγκυος στον Ιησού Χριστό. Σύμφωνα με την παράδοση, η μέρα αυτή επιλέχθηκε επίτηδες, με σκοπό να βοηθήσει η Παναγία τους αγωνιστές, και μάλιστα η αρχή της επανάστασης έγινε από το μοναστήρι της Αγίας Λαύρας στα Καλάβρυτα.

There's no accolades and parades enough to honour the Greek heroes who fought and died for our freedom . Their memory lives eternal. Hundreds of thousands of women and children were slaughtered and enslaved who's only crime was they were Greek and Christian in the land of their ancestors going back 3000 years.

Especially on the 28 october when internet is full of greek parelasis obviously i do not feel good because i 'm italian, also if i was born in sixties. From 1988 in Italy all our boys are no soldiers and there are no more celebrations on the 4th november for our armed forces. No parelasis of kids and youngs from 1943 when finished the fascist period. Our army now is only professional. But there is still a celebration on the 25th of April for the liberation from fascism by the american army but go only thr politicians. Thank you so much for your beautifull words!

The indigenous people have been taught for nearly the past sixty years, to think like you and disdain their own history, culture and traditions. They no longer care for anything that came before, or for anything that will outlive them. Their only goal is consumption. Globalist victory. The new-comers certainly have no interest in the culture or history of the host country and are only there for opportunist reasons. I don't hate them, but many of them clearly hate us. I don't blame them. They are looking after themselves but, in so doing, they have made our lives more insecure. Do not turn Athens into the same dangerous, selfish, individualistic, undistinctive, globalist, consumerist hell-hole that London has become. London is gloriously diverse, but every little group hates another, except the stupefied native British who are indoctrinated into the 'global citizen' cultureless/identity-free con-trick. Interesting that you're asking. I didn't expect people outside Greece knew about this. On March 7th there was unprovoked violence against a man who protested and arrests of people taking videos with their smartphones after police handed out fines to people who were out in the square for some fresh air (and were following all Covid security measures). This sparked a spontaneous protest on the same day that was suppressed by the police, and two days later, on March 9th, a much bigger protest against police brutality was organized in the same area where thousands of people joined in. It was a peaceful protest, but there were also groups of "anarchists" (that's what the media call them, they're more like thugs or hooligans) who created general havoc and injured a policeman. That night a lot of people were arrested, and some videos have come out that show that many of these arrests were unwarranted, and there's a lot of ugly hearsay about what really happened to the people that got arrested. The shady or illegal behavior caught on people's smartphones that the police aren't exactly admitting to, the lack of clear answers coming from them and the spin the media is giving to all this has many people suspicious and/or angry.

Επίσης, ο εθνισμός και ο εθνικισμός μεταφράζονται (απ' όσο ξέρω) και οι δύο στα αγγλικά ως nationalism. Οπότε, όπως το βλέπω εγώ τουλάχιστον, δεν είναι διακριτές έννοιες, απλώς η δεύτερη αποτελεί ακραία μορφή της πρώτης, τουλάχιστον στο πώς συνηθίζει να αναφέρεται σήμερα.

Εδώ και αιώνες είναι ο κύριος τρόπος που αυτοπροσδιορίζονται οι άνθρωποι και χωρίζονται σε μεγάλες ομάδες σε αυτό που θα λέγαμε πολιτισμένο κόσμο. Frankly he is doing way way more to promote the Greek language and culture than the average ultranationalist with family ties to a corrupted political system. I do agree that his views might be alittle naive in some respects. I mean, clearly our relations with the Turkish state are highly problematic and not from our part. Even KKE (the communist party of Greece) aknowledges the necessity for a strong defence. But these kind of problems are not solved with parades and fanfares. I dont think that he said anywhere that we should not honour our heroes and traditions. I would much prefer to have the young kids read directly from the memoirs of the heroes of the revolution and understand what was in stake, than dragging them around and have them march like miniature napoleonic soldiers, without knowing even the basics.

The danger of war comes from those globalist forces who will allow nothing to stand in their way. I don't agree with the way that you approach this really sensitive issue of national identity and national pride. Everyone needs to remember his dead ancestors and never forget the history of his nation otherwise he is condemned to live it again. I've watched and enjoyed every previous episode of Easy Greek, but I'm going to step away from it just for a bit, because I really feel weirded out by the vibe of this one. Nations and cultures are deep-rooted things. My ancestors bled and died for these concepts, these realities. And I would, too. They are not like well-worn shirts you toss into the hamper and wonder if you should throw them away next time.

It's impossible to make a video that takes any kind of political position and have everyone like it. I much prefer making something that resonates with myself and some others and taking the risk that I will turn off some people than playing it safe. It's OK that it rubbed you the wrong way. I hope you come back soon. If you'd like to know more about where I'm coming from, I recommend a great book I read recently, "In the Name of Identity" by Amin Maalouf. Really puts national, religious and cultural identity into perspective.
