In this video we show you how goods are transported to inaccessible places along the mountainside by mule. Mules are used all over the world to transport people and goods when a car or truck cannot be used.

Well cared for mules ....... they have beautiful coats ...... no ribs showing ....... their ears are forward while delivering the goods = they are not upset ......... their saddle pads are thick = protecting their backs ...... their gate is strong ....... legs / hips / hooves look good ...... 💚 from a horse woman in Virginia

When you reached out to stroke the mule’s face he was completely relaxed and unthreatened. If those mules were treated badly they would be “head shy”, meaning they would toss their head and flinch away from the contact. They look like contented well cared for working animals and watching them work together as a mule train was brilliant. Thank you for this lovely content.

There is absolutely no animal abuse going on in this video, and this is from an American living in Campania for several years. We have police dogs that are trained to put their life on the line, which sometimes they have to do! We also have dogs who take care of sheep and lambs. We have horses that work their butts off! I think your donkeys/mules were well taken care of and doing their job!

The Mules are an historic part of Mediterranean life, prominent in Greece and Italy in mountainous coastal regions, going back thousands of years. The Mules that delivered your pellets appear well cared for, securely harnessed to spread the load and well nutriated ( from your garden, not least) and after all they have been specifically bred with this purpose mind, as they are ideally suited to narrow paths and the rocky, sloped terrain of the region, nevertheless your sensitivity and care to their well-being speaks highly of your evidently kind heart and I do hope others appreciate your obvious concern and thoughtfulness.

@@MEquestrian1 Mules skin is much tougher and less sensitive than horses. Their temperament when carrying / pulling heavy weights is far superior to horses. Their hooves are also much harder and resistant to insects & diseases. They have a higher endurance as well. The "people" who "decide" what animals do for work? You say it as if working animals are 100% treated badly / is wrong because they're working, which is completely false. I could easily ask you the same... who are you to decide it's okay for you to ride a horse? 🥴 For some animals, without this type of work/exercise/lifestyle, it could actually be detrimental to their health. Few examples: Huskies should be in the cold and need to be able to run. Milking animals. Hunter+gatherer animals. Herd dogs. RIDING HORSES FOR TRANSPORTATION. The list goes on and on. It is a SYMBIOTIC relationship that has been engrained into many animals DNA over CENTURIES. So for you to not understand this basic concept... Idk man check out Google? I hear it can teach you just about anything! But honestly to find the answer to your extremely loaded question, you'd have to go back to find the very first person who ever decided to try riding a horse. Or making a mule a pack animal. Or put huskies on a sled. My guess: to simply survive and do things we could not accomplish with our human strength. WHY they came up with the idea, maybe it was as simple as looking at a horse and saying "Wow he goes fast. Bet he could get me farther way faster. Imma try riding him! Hell, I'll ride him and thousands of others into battle to be massacred!" 😬 Lol.

I’m an animal lover too, and I think that having a job gives an animal a sense of purpose. Even house pets view their walks as a job and I think they are happier in general for it. The mules looked calm and healthy. So interesting to see your life in Positano. I found your channel in April 2020, and Wednesday and Sunday are a bright spot in my week XOXO

In Mexico we use mules as well. They are very well cared for and actually love their jobs. Positano mules look happy and healthy, no need for an explanation. But the fact that you felt the need to offer one shows your beautiful character.

A mule has a job just like a horse does. As long as they are well looked after and treated well... we dont live in anyone else's shoes. We certainly don't know how life is over there.

If you ask me, as a tourist, you go traveling so that you can walk. unless the distance is way to big, and a car is needed. In which case, you wouldn't use an animal, unless for a weird reason you traveled back in time, or there's no road on which a car can safely ride on. These are just my 2 uninformed cents, please forgive my ignorance.

100% agreed. Plus in this case each mule had only 45kg. Tourists (especially from one particular country which shall remain unnamed...) weigh more like 100kg or more.

My condolences to the family of Carlo's great uncle. 95 is an impressive age! Thank you for the explanation at the beginning of the video, even though I've seen the last pellet delivery a couple years ago, I felt it was very respectful and very helpful for new viewers. I did feel really bad for you that you kept apologizing, I know how you must struggle with this necessity. I know what the cold with damp is like and it causes many respiratory illnesses in children here in NZ, as many of our houses are insufficiently insulated and expensive to heat. Thanks for another wonderful video! ❤

It's almost painful to listen to you having to justify a centuries old method of a symbiotic relationship between man and animals. Miles were bred to b beast of burden. Seems like a very eco friendly method. Perhaps those squeamish people would prefer a noxious diesel fuel truck.

Niki: Amazing. Just Amazing. I am often in aw of exactly what it takes to live in a mountain home like yours. I give you so much credit for all you have adapted to in Positano. I could understand a local girl having lived in similar conditions, but for a young girl who grew up in England suburbs, you do an amazing job bringing up your family in such surroundings. God Bless and more power to you!

As a person who has a driveway who has a garage who has a doors leading right into my home I can only imagine the daunting task of having to go up and down 500 steps on any given day let alone carry huge loads of heating pellets. The mules looked well cared for they are after all the livelihood of that business and there is nothing wrong with it. I felt more badly you had to do most of that yourself until finally helped arrived. There are many working animals in this world yet if people give you a hard time just ignore but most of the comments I have seen we all feel the same. Thanks for sharing the reality of life as well as all the beauty of life in Positano !
