I have never had any problems with my Cavalier getting into things out of sight. He imprinted on me because we got him as an 11 week old puppy, and pretty much since day 1 has followed me around like he is my shadow from room to room. He has no interest in being anywhere else (unless someone comes to the door, or he wants to go bark at a squirrel in the yard). He always disliked his crate because it wasn't with me, but would accept napping in it (grudgingly) until he was about 5 months old, after which I gave up on it. If I leave a bunch of toys and chew bones out in the living room on a rug he will always go for them if he feels like chewing or playing and has so far never chewed anything he shouldn't.

For my 2 girls, I had a 6 step carpeted stair for them to go up and down in my bed. It was sage green, which matched my decor. I had it sideways at the bottom of my bed, so it didn't take up much room. I also had a gueen size guard rail protector on their side of the bed, so I got half the bed, and they got the other half. Madison preferred the top while Morgan took the bottom. For the 1st year of their life, I crated them while I was working and hired my neighbor to come over three times a day, letting them out in the yard and playing with them. They loved their "auntie" Donna. They never had an accident in the house. Best girls I ever had.

This is a great video. Perhaps you can cross promote it to reach beyond just our cav community. Same with the previous one showing 'Teddy's day' for house training/feeding/potty/nap/play times. Would love a video on dog first aid and emergency tips. How to handle basic injuries or ingestion of dangerous things when vet is unavailable, when to call poison control, etc. I find my cavs have a sneaky trait and sometimes make bad choices! Morris has found chocolate twice that I didn't know was there. He opened a closet, unzipped my old hiking backpack and found packets of trail mix and power bars that had chocolate. As soon as I realized what happened, I squirted 1/2 water 1/2 peroxide down his throat with a needleless syringe and got him to vomit up all the contraband. He was fine right after. Henry my cirque du soleil acrobat was prone to injuries from all his antics. When he abraided a paw pad from doing a back flip off a tree, I cleaned the wound with peroxide, added antibiotic ointment, covered with a sterile pad and wrapped with a self adhesive flex bandage. I changed the dressings twice daily. By the time the vet came 2 days later it was healing well and she said he didn't need further treatment. I also have often reached into a slimy cav mouth to retrieve whatever they are chewing and attempting to swallow that may not be a great idea. Henry learned the 'spit it out' command but Morris just clenches shut. Glad I'm bigger than him.

I had a raccoon come through the doggy door years ago. Had chow chows at the time and I'm not sure I'd recommend picking up a raccoon, but holy crap, I didn't want one of the chows to literally kill the intruder. My leather gauntlets were thankfully in that room.

We have had raccoons on our property, but they have not attempted to even come near our house.

Great information and you have a very nice home! I'll definitely be looking into the scat-mat. Our little boys are doing much better now with their house training, but I still have them cordoned off from our living room, which has access to the 2nd floor staircase. A scat-mat in front of the staircase might be in order!

Love your videos, but how can you have that sweet little Teddy and not keep him? He is clearly in love with you and smitten by Apple!

Many thanks for all your helpful videos. This one is a gem! Could you let us know the model of air purifier and doggy door? Again, this is such a delightful video.
@chaskat352 ай бұрын
I got both on Amazon.com. This is the air purifier: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07LFVKXZM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The doggie door is made by Pet Safe - you can browse all the different models, and see which one fits your needs.

You have a lovely home and some good ideas! I would like to know if whoever gets into the stackable top crate, do they get in on their own? I love the end table crates! Thank you for sharing your story with us. After all your years of experience with these dogs, you have a lot to share.

Personally, I'm not a fan of scat mats. You can achieve the same thing with a baby gate (as Charlie showed). I prefer not to use physical pain to train my dogs, especially when I can achieve the same thing without resorting to physical pain.
