I used to collect discarded hoses from the hydraulic shops and cut the ferrules to reuse the fittings. Have had trouble finding ferrules lately but when I had them I would replace every hose on my skid steer and avoid a lot of issues! I kept the still good hoses as spares.

I'll bet those numbers are 16ths of an inch. 8 is 1/2 or 8/16ths and so on. 16 is an inch, 16/16ths.

Hydraulics run under much higher pressure. An air hose would probably just blow
