I moved from Vietnam to Germany 3 years ago for studying. I make silly videos about how Germany looks like through the eyes of a Vietnamese student - on my way to be your favourite Ausländer! :D

I want to tell Uyen & German BF that I traveled to Mannheim to stay with an exchange student friend one summer! It was a beautiful city and I loved going downtown to eat, shop, & taking the public transit! My heritage is from Austria, Switzerland, Poland, & Luxembourg. Europe is so wonderful for travel! I also visited Vietnam and I loved it! Vietnamese food & coffee are my favorites. You two combined the best cultures. ❤️💖💖❤️

Oh boy. I met my German boyfriend in 1994 while he was in the US. He moved back to Germany in 1996. So we were long distance until 2000 when I moved to Germany. There was no FaceTime, no real email…..we faxed each other letters.😮 It was so hard. We got married in 2000 and now have two children almost done with school. Life is crazy!

I'm in a long distance relationship and this video not only cheered me up from seeing the two of you so happy together, but it also gave me hope that the relationship I'm in can also work out! I'm from the northern part of Sweden and my boyfriend is from California in the US. We've been together for almost 1 and half years now and we met for the first time last summer. Pretty much every single person I've talked to who's been in a long distance relationship has told me to break up and move on before I get to attached/involved... I can understand their point, they obviously care and they understand that this kind of relationship comes with a lot challenges and IT IS difficult. My love language is all about cuddles, hugs, playing videogames on the couch together, reading a book on the bed while he programs, honestly anything that involves seeing the other person and being close to them. He's very much the same, some of our best times during out first time meeting last years was spent just cuddling or going out on walks with my dog(at the time puppy). Making food together and laughing our asses of when I was trying to have him pronounce different groceries in Swedish. Little things, everyday things, those are the moments that me and him talk about the most when we're apart. He's coming back to Sweden this summer, in almost 10 weeks exactly and I can't wait to experience all of those things all over again. Thank you once again for the super sweet video and I wish the two of you the absolute best

Long distance relationships can definitely work! You just both have to have the right mindset and patience to do it. Me and my boyfriend have been together for 8,5 years, 7 of which was long distance and we are living happily together now. He is from Japan and I am from the Netherlands. Sure, it wasn’t always easy and it still sometimes isn’t, especially because of the cultural differences but patience and determination goes a long way. Luckily we had a lot of support from people around us and I am surrounded by many people with successful LDR stories. My father is Dutch and my mom is from USSR Russia. When they met in the early 80’s in Moscow, my father immediately fell in love with her and even though their love was illegal and had no future, my father was very persistent so when the soviet union fell apart she immediately moved to the Netherlands and they lived happily ever after until my dad passed away. They have always supported our relationship and because of their story, I had a great example of how it could work successfully. When I felt negative about our relationship, they always told me to look at it from a different perspective instead of just talking along with me and telling me to break up. That is not always what you need to hear and it can destroy your relationship because it plants a negative seed in your mind. I am so happy for you that you will see your boyfriend soon and wish you all the best😊

i love your content ❤ edit: i think it’s incredibly real and important that you mentioned how you felt like you had to keep your relationship secret due to the dynamic with your parents. people don’t understand what it’s like when your parent is from a rural village in a foreign country, things are so different. you cant just tell your mom “im an adult mind your own business” in that way. and when you’re a baby adult, it’s difficult and scary to manage the transition from dependent to independent. thank you for mentioning that. also, i think german bf is completely correct about keeping your day to day lives involved despite the distance. that’s the first connection that’s severed when you’re LD, your daily lives are totally separate and many people begin drifting from there. but by making an effort in small moments, even land and oceans cant separate love.

I agree with not telling your parents when you're still new and starting a relationship! The stress and pressure Vietnamese families put on you is UNREAL. I am a Australian born Viet and my husband is from Vietnam and my parents knew about our relationship from DAY 1 and it is something both my husband and I regret cause there were so many times they would tell us to break-up/ tell us what we should do/ how we should live/ how things should be etc. It was so stressful and at the same time so hard to ignore your family's opinion at the same time! It wasn't until we married and moved out that they finally saw me as an adult who can make their own decision. My husband is also my first love, and also I haven't had my heart broken either! >.< But it was a lot of hard work (like visa paperwork, maintaining contact) to make our relationship work but worth it in the end! We also did the same thing as you guys where we texted/ called for HOURS and would send pictures of what we were eating, going out, and basically everything that was happening in our daily lives to make it feel like we were always together and we were never sick of it! >.< Sending love and blessings to you both!

My husband and I are both from the US but we lived in different states when we first started dating. We were 1600 miles away from each other and you are SO spot on when you said that the pain of separating after a visit gets worse! I ended up moving out to his state and it was nerve wracking. As you said, there is no guarantee it will work out but it was worth the risk! Happily married for 4 year this autumn ❤️

Our 1 year long distance relationship was long enough for me. It was a very emotional time. You cry while being appart because you miss each other, and you cry when together because you don't want to leave each other again. I am German and he is a Kiwi. In the end it was worth it, LDR really strenghtened our relationship. Now we live together in New Zealand since 2018 and we are so so happy and greatful that we met. But it is hard to live far away from family, and it probably will get harder the older my family gets.

the way you describe your own changes toward loving yourself more and more because of his support is exactly what a good healthy relationship is like. I remember that happening with my husband too, i dont wear make up or perfume whatsoever anymore and i embrace my little light leg hairs eithout razoring them and so on. We are beautiful humans and dont need that anxiety. if people dress/make up/shave/ etc because it makes them happy, cool! but if it is just because one is afraid to look themselves in the eye in the mirror...then it is not good. You never had your heart broken... you are one lucky woman. :)

This made me very happy to listen to :-) Especially the part when you explained that your boyfriend helped you overcome your insecurities about your appearance by telling you you are beautiful no matter what -- with or without make-up. I was in a relationship in which my partner would refuse to call me pretty or beautiful, but insisted I was cute instead. I never really cared for my appearance that much, so anyone telling me this wouldn't have affected me as much, but somehow as my partner, I thought he at least should see me as beautiful -- if not, who else? Especially since he was generally praised for being good-looking (by me and others!). So it really affected me and lessened my (already ver low) self confidence. I hope to be in a situation where I find myself beautiful without the help of anyone :-) And if I do date someone, that this person will find me beautiful no matter what! And I wish the same for everyone else too!

Maybe he did not love you? When I was younger I was in a relationship for one month because I was confused about how feelings worked etc, and I never called her beautiful or anything like that because I didn't find her attractive and I thought maybe it'll come with time.

@@wolfzmusic9706 That's a rabbit hole I don't really want to go down tbh haha but you might very well be right. There was definitely a lack of maturity in the relationship anyway, our first serious one even though we weren't that young. I think there were times when he did love me, but the majority of the time it was more of a convenience thing. I guess I'll never know! If someone can't support their partner and don't see them as beautiful, they definitely do not love them in a healthy way anyway.

It's quite funny how many parallels I see between your long-distance relationship and mine. Even if it's "only" 500 km with us, we do pretty much the same thing you did. Telephone in the morning before work and in the evening after work, write to us about everything we do in everyday life and have never regretted it and very spontaneously after our first meeting to decide on the long-distance relationship. It's only been 1.5 years for us, but listening to you like this makes me even more optimistic that things can go just as well for us as for you, thank you for that ❤

OMG I feel this video. Thank you for sharing your story! My boyfriend and I have also been doing long distance for over two years now. Luckily it is a "not so long distance"-relationship from Germany to Switzerland, with me living in Bavaria and him close to the Swiss-Austrian-German border region, but sometimes it is harddd. Especially not being able to experience nice things together on a daily basis or missing the cuddles. Hearing positive stories like yours always lifts my spirits

you just made me realize: "you just have to find the right guy." I have done so many of these things - sending someone long distance nice presents, trying to stay in contact every day and involve them in your everyday life, try to meet up - but if the other person is not putting in the effort/ is not 100% honest about what this is for him/ is just avoidant/cheating/lying, then really there's nothing I could have done differently. Thanks for showing me that there really is nothing wrong with me, but rather I just *have to find the right guy to give all of my love to* . I once heard "imagine you could give that much love to the wrong guy - imagine how much more you can give to the right guy and how great that will be". Seeing you together just verifies that. Love that you've found each other and German boyfriend really is a keeper!! Glad for you two! Kind regards from Austria

My wife and I were in a 19 year LDR. We were very patience. Her son was still young, so we waited until he graduated college. Also it took awhile for me to be able to afford the costs. The American embassy never had anyone do a LDR that long. We are so happy we're married now. We started emailing in 2000. Then chat. She didn't have internet at the house, and had to travel to an internet café. When Facebook started messenger we chatted twice a day. When video chat came, it was video chats. We sent cards to each other, I'd sent Valentine roses. You 2 are a great couple.

You DONT understand how much this hits close to home for me too that i have tears in my eyes 🥺🥺 I'm also in a long-distance relationship with my bf for 3 years since 2020 but he and I live separately, and i really feel your struggles of wanting & longing for physical closeness and the constant doubts from your friends thinking it'd be impossible. The most worrying part of mine was the family, because i live in southeast asia next to Vietnam too, and ALL of my family members are traditional. To this day, I still don't know how I'll ever tell my parents that I had a 3 years long-distance relationship with my bf. Can you please please make a video about how you confronted your parents about your whole relationship when you returned to VN to introduce him?

We always tried to text or talk to each other every day and shared about our day when we were halfway around the world. I guess the secret to a successful long distance relationship is your love, your being faithful to each other and how you really want to make it work. And also don't forget to be creative since you can't have normal dates like other couples and.... lots of sexy talks hehe 😁

Going on four years of Europe/Asia LDR here too, including 2 years of not being able to meet in person thanks to covid. It's definitely not for everyone but I agree, if you both can handle it it's 1000% worth it 😊 I'd even dare to say the pandemic made it easier because we've learned to cope with being able to be far from each other without being too miserable and actually focus on getting our lives together to actually be together. I can also confirm the ugly crying at the airport everytime one of us has to get back home. There's no stopping it, but oh well.
