I can't recall which novel it was, but one of them includes a character training to be a storm trooper. He goes to see his trainer, who throws a trident at him as if he were legitimately trying to spear him. The weapon was repelled very effectively, to the angry recruit's surprise. It was a training session to teach him what the armor can do, what it's really meant to protect from

When the government is reviewing contractor proposals, cost is the last thing they're allowed to take into account. They first have to consider factors like can the contractor meet demand, do they have a reputation of quality, do they have a plan for meeting the KPI's, etc. If all are equal among two competitors and one can do it for less, then they'll factor in cost. Any time a contract is awarded and it appears to have been based entirely on cost, the losing bidders can file an appeal with the GAO, who will review the decision to see if they followed regulation. If not, the award is overturned, and a second round of bidding happens. This process of bid/award/appeal can go on for several months, or even over a year, during which time the previous contractor provides bridge services pending finalization award of the new contract. Been working for a government contractor myself for the past 10 years, and I've seen this play out about a dozen times so far. We are often NOT the cheapest solution, and get the contract anyways. Edit: Yes, I'm well aware that many contracts end up with the cheapest bidder. That's because those contracts aren't contested. The good contractors fight it. They take it to court, they appeal to the GAO, they fight tooth and nail to get it. Yes, because it's profit first, and pride second. That's how it works. So if a gov't contract gets worked by a shithole contractor...think of how shitty that deal was that no one decent fought for it. Place the blame where it's due. Civil contractors aren't the enemy.

Storm Troopers having bad aim is a myth perpetuated by storytellers who admire ep 4. In A New Hope Storm Troopers were specifically ordered by Tarkin not to shoot to kill the main characters so they can tail them to the location of the rebel base. The admiration of episode 4 has created this belief from the fan community and story tellers following it. I personally like how Legends depicts Storm Troopers than under Disney Canon. Alot of Storm Troopers were just ordinary people just doing a job (Only the higher ups were morally evil people sending out the orders) than the cartoonish nazis we get now.

Those poor Sith Troopers shouldn’t have been so easy to kill... hell, the entire First Order Stormtrooper army should’ve been a massive step up from Imperial armory or technology... but the command structure and that the troops were literally taught to act like emotionless robots and they barely had any off duty time just added on the stress pile for your common FO Tooper. I mean you have to deal with one of your superiors going into a lightsaber frenzy if the mission failed even a little bit. Being a Stormtrooper is very stressful, but from what little we know about the Final Order the Sith Troopers should’ve been a step for regular FO troops. @@AngelDust6969 Well, you mean they wouldn't have survived to destroy the *second* Death Star. In A New Hope it's air-tight. No plot armor involved. Vader and Tarkin ordered the Stormtroopers to let them escape. From ESB and onward, it's highly questionable when main characters survive firefights, and in several cases it's absolutely plot armor, and in Rebels/Mando it's outright undeniable plot armor. I swear, Stormtroopers were not useless. They annihilated bitches in A New Hope, and they murked the Rebels on Hoth, but from that point on, they've only gotten more and more pathetic. To the point now where I honestly think that someone could actually make the unironic claim that "Stormtroopers," as a collective entity, have been character assassinated. If we made modern armor that covered as much as Stormtrooper armor while being able to stop modern rifles, it would be far too heavy to be practical. If we extrapolate this idea to the Star Wars universe (better materials, but more powerful weapons) you might get similar weight to protection ratios. You could think of beskar as something like AR500 steel which can typically stop many rifle rounds and take repeated impacts in the same spot, while clone and stormtrooper armor would be more like Kevlar, which can usually only stop pistol rounds and will be severely compromised the first time it is hit. However, Kevlar is much lighter and more flexible and easier to wear for long periods of time, which is why most police and security workers choose it over something with more protection and also more weight. Rex takes a sniper bolt to the chest and is seriously injured but survives, most likely because it hit in a place where his larger pauldron covers his chest plate, so there are two layers of armor where the bolt lands. Also, in the Umbara ad inhibitor chip arcs, you can see that Fives has decided to add thicker plates over top of his regular chest and back plates. This might be like adding ceramic plates over a level IIIA Kevlar vest to make it capable of stopping one rifle round in that spot. You'll notice that most Mandalorian armor sets cover less of the body than Stormtrooper armor. (Beskar would still need to be lighter than AR500 though. That shit is heavy.)
@UgandanAirForce
@UgandanAirForce 3 жыл бұрын
well I'd imagine mandolorians have less armor coverage because they'd rather have armor cover areas that would be considered fatal like your chest, head, and neck. This would be a decent idea since they can concentrate more beskar into those armor pieces rather than having less traces of beskar in armor covering most of your body

Actually a lot of older in universe content stated beskar is actually stronger and more durable than any conventional metal like titanium and steel, but unlike other fictional miracle metals like vibranium it’s actually more dense and comes at a heavy cost of mobility. So in universe it’s like as or heavier than steel given the same volume. The only difference, is a thin piece of beskar maintains integrity better than a thin piece of steel.

Many people unfamiliar with plasteel and plastoid forget that in a galaxy where blasters are the most common form of weapon, the best protection will be something that diffuses the energy of the bolts. As seen in Mandalorian, Boba's Gaffi Staff literally shattered trooper armor which reveals how brittle it showing that although it may be an alloy the actual metal content is minimal. Blaster bolts are dangerous due to their intense heat and electrical charge. Metal conducts electricity and absorbs heat so would make for horrible armour. Imagine that each bolt of blaster fire made your armour get hotter and hotter. You'd literally burn to death given the temperatures produced by blaster bolts. However, consider UHT ceramics as a material. They are dielectric and can insulate against temperatures up to around 2000c. These are also lightweight and brittle but demonstrate exactly the kind of protective qualities needed in a galaxy, far, far away. The simple fact is that although you see troopers go down in one hit from blaster fire is because they've sustained a massive electrical shock. Something which many people could be revived from if given prompt medical attention.
@solarissv777

but what about shrapnel? Or debris thrown around by explosions, or a shock wave. Such a brittle armor wouldn't protect from this threats for a bit. On an actual battlefield artillery is a real killer, and not the hand held weapons.
@KryyssTV
@KryyssTV 3 жыл бұрын
@@solarissv777 But you're forgetting that it's not just about the force of the impact but the force over an area. Going back to comparing plastoid with modern UHT ceramics; most HHTCs have a hardness between 21-33gPA (Gigapascals). That's just the amount of pressure they can sustain if it's spread equally across it's surface. To put that figure into perspective, if 1kg of TNT produces a 230kPA (Kilopascals) shockwave which doesn't even come close to 1 Gigapascals of pressure. So this would mean that while an impact from a Gaffi Stick or slugthrower projectile can shatter pieces of plasoid or UHTC, that is only because the pressure is applied to a very small area.

@@ranger-rj2ym then why not just put all the armor into breastplate and helmet? Make them properly withstand blaster bolts (at least torso hits). As for extremities, blaster bolts do not cause bleeding, and prostatics are well developed in SW universe, so some minor shrapnel protection and a good first aid kit, should be enough. P.S. You have to be mixing legends and Canon in this video. Because the only way that Stormtroopers armor is possibly vibro blade and shrapnel proof is if you're talking legends. We saw that armor shattered by the forgers hammer, tusken Gaderffii (which is literally made from scrap metal), and random native alien spear sticks. Even Ewok arrows could puncture the armor. Yes they provide environmental protection, comms and some resistance to blasters and minor shrapnel, but besides that its not doing much else. As far as Canon goes. It performs much better in legends.

To be fair though, certain armor that exists today has a limited lifetime. You should be swapping the plates out of your bullet proof vest every 3-5 years. That could be part of the reason why First Order armor was noticeably different instead of using reserve armor from the Galactic Civil War.

The reason war hammers where a thing, was because a sword might not go through a knight’s armor, but a hammer with a spike has the potential to pen their armor, or alternatively, could be used to give the person wearing armor a concussion, or break bones through their armor. Doesn’t matter what your armor is made of if it isn’t designed to stop blunt impact, which I’m pretty sure is only truly possible with some sort of powered exoskeleton.

We all have to rememver: the empire won most of their battles, be it off screen. Most of the battle were skrimishes with small rebel cells, that the empire easily won. So after every battle the wounded stormtroopers (even though they got shot) could easily be retrieved and, cared for and were ready to fight in basicly no time. To heal a wounded trooper is (even for the empire) less expensive and faster. The big battles were all the storm troopers die were really really uncommon and happened mostly on onscreen against plotarmor heroes. Also a singular armor set for a storm trooper isnt expensive but to fully arm the whole storm trooper coprs would be too expensive, even for the empire.

Watch EC Henry video on their accuracy. In the Tantive IV scene the stormtroopers get 15 kills with 94 shots, while the rebels get 3 kills with 63 shots. That's awesome accuracy in a combat scenario by irl combat standards. Additionally, they wouldn't have wanted to kill the heroes on the Deathstar because they wanted them to escape and lead them to the Yavin. Similar situation on Bespin, in which the heroes used cover and a smoke screen to screw their hit ratio. On Hoth they carved through any rebel infantry like a knife through butter, only failing to get the heroes when the Falcon's turret suppressed them. On Endor we have no clue what their shot to hit ratio was as it's too chaotic. But Ewoks blend into the forrest well,and are small mobile targets. Their armor protected them from ewoks, but the ewoks managed to distract while the rebels, who were commandos, were picking them off.

@@puttputt524 Fictional armor needs to be practical against common in-universe weapons used in common ways. A stick is a very common weapon in SW - a failed blaster is a fine example of one. The episode of The Mandalorian (s2e7) where Din Djarin wears the plastoid armor has a nice example of that logic used - the blaster jams (for the first time in SW), he throws it at the rebels, then later gets hit with a club twice, which both times shatters the pauldron but only bruises his arm and his confidence. That's very consistent with the armor being issued to vehicle crews - ample protection to head, neck and upper body for peeking out of a hatch or escaping a damaged vehicle, but not designed for repeated hits. Stormtrooper armor should be less bulky for ease of movement (check), cover lower torso and limbs (check), while protecting against lower-powered blaster bolts (check) and battlefield debris impacts (check). The only other time we've seen plastoid armor shatter was in the previous episode, where stormtroopers get hit with various blunt weapons (yes, a piece of metal armor or the side of a blaster definitely count) and only the very special armor-piercing stick penetrates the armor.

He had been somewhat suffering from it, as the reported side-effects of a mind trick are similar to a hangover and brain-fog. As he and he squad began running to the hangar command room on the Death Star, he slowly began to realize that something strange happened on Tatooine, that robed old man had done something to his head, and those _were_ in fact the droids they were- **THUNK** Walking into that door then put him right back into the brain fog he’d just shaken himself from, and he was the one put on post to watch _the droids they were looking for_ only to let them escape him, again!

@vincentmastrarrigo1605
@vincentmastrarrigo1605 3 жыл бұрын
I have some theories on that. In Boba’s case he is a seasoned veteran in kicking ass, a non modified Fett clone and training in mandalorian combat. His Gaderffii stick is brutally heavy (5kg or over 11 pounds) and with the combination of his strength and the momentum created by swinging it means bad things for whatever it comes into contact with. Not to mention the actor himself is trained in martial arts.
@vincentmastrarrigo1605
@vincentmastrarrigo1605 3 жыл бұрын
The second part is Chirut, he (as depicted in the movie) was force sensitive. This means that strength and reactions would be much better than a normal person. Not to mention the staff he carries looks to be based on a bo staff and if you are familiar with the applications and uses of the bo staff then you know that if used correctly it can be devastating. If you don’t believe me look for videos of martial artists using the bo staff, it’s actually pretty interesting.

Bit belatedly, two points that seem evident as far back as ANH: 1. I vaguely recall in the opening fight on the Tantive IV, even a near-miss was shown to cause the lightly-armored defenders to recoil. A full-body suit of armor would also be full-body protection from fragmentation. Cover is clearly still the first and best defense in Star Wars, just as modern soldiers with hard body armor don't exactly like having those trauma plates stress-tested by rifle bullets. 2. Even though several scenes showed them with bigger blaster rifles that I assume were used like squad automatic weapons, by far the most common blaster you saw them using was a carbine mocked up from the Sterling SMG, and often shown fired from the hip and/or with the stock folded. This makes perfect sense for soldiers who are first and foremost marines, not just in the modern USMC sense but in the old-school "your job is to board ships and protect yours from boarders" sense, so their weapon is made with fairly close-range fighting in mind. If their helmets have targeting data that also probably helps make firing from the hip at least "close enough for government work" levels of accuracy, whereas in real life hip-firing with no stock isn't a great idea unless you're either in pistol range, willing to spray-and-pray with automatic fire, or using a shotgun since unlike in video games spread is your friend.
