How / where to add OxyClean powder (clothing brightener) to GE UltraFresh washer with SmartDispense

Ever wonder where to put the color safe bleach powder (like OxyClean) when using the GE UltraFresh SmartDispense automatic detergent system?

Keep in mind, fabric softener is not good for washing machines and your clothes. The waxy film cakes on to athletic wear and towels, making them less absorbent and breathable. I use Downy “rinse & refresh” and Distilled vinegar instead. Makes my clothes smell good & fluffy. Also better on your machine in the long run.

I started using vinegar in the fabric softener slot recently. I was surprised that the clothing doesn’t smell like vinegar!

You should never put fabri. Softener on athletic wear

I've been trying find this answer everywhere, not sure why it is so hard. I have a new Maytag washer which is similar to this. However, the Oxy instructions & washer says to add Oxy to the wash basket before starting the cycle. However, the washer prompts me to add the clothes so it can detect water level!!! I don't understand. Can I put the oxyclean in the dispenser tray & it will mix it with hot water (thus dissolving) before it's added to the basket??? That seems like what I should do, yet the directions are contradicting & don't line up with what the washer prompts me to do

I put OxyClean in the dispenser tray. When the water comes into the tray, it dissolves the OxyClean… though sometimes some is left behind. Do you mean “drum” for “basket”? Do the instructions say to add OxyClean to the drum?

@@fixthishouse3303 Yes "basket" is the "drum". The Maytag instructions call it the basket, but same thing! Thanks for your help!! It's confusing bc the Oxyclean specifically says not to put straight powder into the drum without it first dissolving, but that seems to be what Maytag instructions say & other videos online say to do. I thought, maybe there's something special about these new machines where it doesn't matter if I throw the powder in before the clothes, but can't really imagine why. But anywho, I like to use both Oxy & detergent on my heavily soiled loads and with the Maytag, I'm unable to put both Oxy powder & detergent in the despenser, bc it uses the same space. So, if I want detergent & Oxy, I guess I have to put it in the drum, bc I don't really have a choice.. I don't know why this is so hard 😂

I have the same exact washer as shown here. GE Ultrafresh Vent System. And my question is the same. I purchase Oxi Clean Power paks. Which says Add detergent as normally would, then place 1 pak directly into drum. I use smart dispense auto detect, so no need to add the detergent. Then simply throw a power pak or two into the drum. Along with laundry And hope for the best. I’m wondering should I continue throwing power paks directly into the drum or will the cleaning power go further, placing into the cup? Or maybe I should just switch from the power paks-to-powder just to avoid all the confusion …

You cant put the packs in the dispenser. Only put those directly into thr drum.​@alvinellie

When you add the OxiClean to the powder compartment and you use the smart dispense, does the liquid from the smart dispense container also also go into the wash?

Yes (as long as you have the SmartDispenser “on.”

Do you also keep the smart dispenser in less when adding the powder oxiclean? Or you do not use it with the regular detergent together? Thank you for the video.

I turn the SmartDispenser off when using laundry detergent in the front compartment. OxyClean is not a laundry detergent but a stain remover/brightened. I keep the SmartDispenser ON when using OxyClean in the front compartment.

I’ve noticed you are using Powder for stain removal, conditioner for softener, smart dispenser is on it means detergent plus you have added bleach. Can you please tell me why did u add bleach when u r already using powder? Because i always thought bleach is used for stain removal. This oxy powder is new for me.

I did not add bleach. Our machine always has water sitting in the bleach compartment. I don’t think I’ve ever used bleach and OxyClean together.
