It seems to be a copy of an old paper and pencil two player game called WORD-DUEL, you and your opponent would pick an agreed upon length of word and then take turns guessing and getting hits (like battleship) for right letter, and right letter in right place.

I enjoy wordle but I don't put a lot of energy into it so once in a while when it's really difficult and I can't figure it out, i will put a wrong word in the final slot just to end the game. for me the hardest ones are the ones where you have 3 letters and there are too many words to choose from that will work. Those are really annoying because at that point it's all guesses unless you get lucky and get a 4th letter before it's too late.

Only in Hard Mode. In Easy Mode you can strategise and eliminate letters.

None of these wordle knockoffs are very good because they are either too hard or they are not common enough for the average person to get it. THAT is the beauty of wordle. It's a simple game. It requires some thought, but not a lot of hard thinking.

It's a very strange interview to watch as someone who grew up in Europe. This game was a huge gameshow on TV (still on) since the 80s. It's basically if someone coded a version of Hangman where they chose to limit the number of letters and how many sticks the hangman gets... It's a cool project but having him explain how "he came up with the idea for the game" felt weird...

Except not really because there's the aspect of knowing a letter but not the place whereas if you know the letter, you know the place in hangman, so hangman is easier.

The masterpiece thing about it for me is: Daily one time play game - hardly takes 5 minutes, can’t waste too much time on it or get distracted & get on with the day. Words are common that makes it easy, but still have chances of missing it. -> like Light day one was tough guess for me, I had many choices like night, fight, sight, etc as choices.
