We’ve struggled with our decision to cancel our trip because we know how much Maui relies on tourism and we considered volunteering while we were there, but it seems that retaining resources for locals is the priority for the foreseeable future. Sending strength and love to everyone that has lost their family in this terrible tragedy. I am so sorry you’re having to go through this. Southern California got hit with the Woolsey Fire 11/8/2018 along with paradise “camp fire” in northern California. The exact same day. In the middle of the night. No warning, no evacuation order, no communications, no electricity we lost everything. And many died. The same themes seem to be present in all of these fires. You are not alone. Help is on the way. In my opinion, we are under attack. When we got hit in 2018. I always wondered how the looters were able to get in, but the residents were not allowed back in for two weeks!? It was small handfuls of dedicated locals that saved what little was left of our town. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Aloha. 🙏❤️
@cowgirlinthesand1984 Жыл бұрын
From our backyard I saw the Woolsey Fire start but there was zero coverage of it on the local radio and tv stations which it not the norm for our area. I called our local firehouse and was told “no resources would be going to that fire”. I knew then we were in trouble so we packed up the pets and some clothes and self evacuated. By the time the official evacuation came, it was too late for many. Cal Fire let our area burn! Many many lives lost in the Camp Fire but no one talks about it anymore. Thank goodness LAFD took back their authority. My heart breaks for the people of Lahaina for their loss of loved ones and personal property. Stay strong ❤ and keep asking for what you need!

@@cowgirlinthesand1984 these fires are somewhere between terrorism and a landgrab. The same day and time, the paradise fire started, the Woolsey Fire consumed Malibu. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in Maui./Lahaina. Flashback 2018, I remember sitting on the beach with my two dogs and my cat watching the houses in my neighborhood exploding. I thought I was going to spend the night in the ocean but then I had trouble breathing. The only way out was to drive through the fire. There were roadblocks and traffic jams everywhere. It took me 6 hours to go 20 miles. It was the most terrifying experience of my life! Similar themes are running through each and every fire. The attack comes in the night or shortly before dawn, when everybody is sleeping. No warning, no evacuation order, no help for days. Only the looters could get in. The residents cannot get back for weeks. Once we got back, we had no power or water for one month. Half of my friends lost everything they owned, and many of them were denied rebuild permits. My heart goes out to all of you. in Lahaina. I have family and friends in Lahaina that I have not heard from since the fire 🔥. In the little town of Paradise, people in their homes were turned to ash, and then they bull dozed them. You are right, they are under reporting the death toll.. Aloha 🙏

Sending prayers to all of you folks. It's sad to hear about the looters. But whenever tragedy strikes, some people feel like whatever is left is theirs to take. I live in Florida, and we are in our hurricane season with last year's hurricane Ian still fresh in our minds. Yes, you all need solar power backup batteries, solar panels, and emergency radios. These items are not cheap to purchase. I know because we have these in our emergency backup supplies. I pray you get these things. It took us a few years of preparation to get the things we needed for our emergency backups. We put them all to the test during Ian last summer. Maybe Jeff Basos can buy some of these things off of Amazon (that's where we got all of our supplies) and deliver them on his private plane. May God supply all of your needs and continue to give you all strength in the coming days, weeks, and months.
