Talk to elderly. Talk to previous injured people. Talk to people with joint replacements. I get the wide toe box and a thin sole. But I need ankle support. 😢

I guess it depends on injury. I am 69 with a metal plate in my fibula, peroneal tendon damage and subsequent strains. PT has done wonders for me in making my feet strong. I also have a high arch with a tendency to suppinate and I hate arch supports and norrow toes and heel lift because I have to fight them to stay balanced. No arch supports no ankle supports. My challenge is finding a shoe to cover my instep. Right now my default around the yard shoe is super cheap water shoes. The best I can do so far zero drop ia Altra escalnates but still a good bit of padding. When I get a wider shoe my heel swims around in the darned thing and it is too wide at the midfoot. Even with the Altras I have to heel lock the shoes when I tie them. The advice given has been very consistent with the physical therapist I am working with.

I have to be in work boots on concrete all day. Anckles cave in when working. Excruciating foot, calves, and knee pain. I recently got custom made orthodics recently and they are also killing me.

Haven't heard anyone talk about socks. Can't they also restrict toe splay? What about toe socks?
@karenanderson6323
@karenanderson6323 3 ай бұрын
Of course sucks can be restrictive just by looser socks. They do make them so tight everything‘s a rabbit hole! I just purchased a pair of socks from Wildling. They’re nice and loose around my feet.

just want to comment on the flip flops, which we call thongs in Aussie land, i am chinese so we dont lift when wearing flipflops we shuffle when wearing them so the heal always lands first, basically a lazy persons walk.

Courtney, do you recommend grip socks like the hospital socks to walk a the house. I don't want to get an infection waking in contaminated floor tiles without socks. I'm 73 y.o. please answer, you're awesome Courtney 👍

Look into rolfing. You may have a tilted pelvic bone. Rolfers work with the facia, bones and muscles to fix the structure of the body.

What shoe brands are good, not those weird toe separator shoes. Walking barefoot over lumpy , uneven ground causes injuries too.

The human foot is beautifully designed? Compared to...? In human evolution, cooking led to relaxed jaw muscles, which led to a larger craniums, which combined with the advantage of being able to survey a larger area from walking upright, walking upright became preferable to accommodate an evolutionarily expedited larger head to place it over top of the spine. This expedition of the evolutionary process has lead to physiological maladaptations like too many foot bones, arms misaligned in the shoulder joints and various spinal maladaptations. That said as a person with duck feet (small heel, wide toes) I spend a lot of time finding well fitting shoes.

Agree, It seems to be aimed at other foot issues. I googled her and found this youtube. It helped me b/c I had PF.. but now I’m dealing with (unbeknowns to me) posterior tibialis. This youtube heled me understand the 2, and gives some exercises for both. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5XPdGh6oJd-j9Esi=MHsBBG_MsQSmqc2X

I agree. This advice is dangerous to many foot conditions.
@nolan_8
@nolan_8 3 ай бұрын
To be fair the advice is given as preventative throughout the video. For those of us with chronic conditions we are in a tough spot because we need to get information from both sides of the aisle to find what works for us. Personally, my doctor mirrored a lot of what Courtney said regarding exercises and treatment of my feet. As she said herself, she increases the foam "stack layer" as needed. I'm curious what info was different from your doctor?

I recommend you watch her interview by Peter Attia. They go more in depth from a clinical perspective, and might be more helpful than this video, which was more like an overview of the topic than anything close to clinical analysis. KZbin search: Peter Attia Courtney Conley
