I’m an amateur writer, so I tend to use perfect grammar a lot. I don’t usually put periods at the end of a sentence if it’s the last sentence in the text, but I do use commas, hyphens, parentheses, and quotation marks a lot. It’s just easier to read that way tbh. I also sometimes use reaction images instead of emojis. You can turn just about any screenshot of a goofy face into the perfect reaction image with the right caption lol. My favorite one I have is of InTheLittleWood making a face that looks like a cross between these emojis 😳🤨 and I have it captioned “Bro, wut-“ It’s freaking hilarious 😂

Periods at the end of a text are also often associated with you being mad at someone. Especially with texts from parents and partners. Good morning vs good morning. or I need you to come home vs I need you to come home. It’s really subtle, but I’ve learned that it’s typically taken as the person being mad or upset about something. An exclamation mark or question mark is taken as the punctuation is meant to indicate: excitement or curiosity. But for some reason, periods are seen as a sign of being upset or as passive aggressiveness about something bothering the texter.

So this whole time I’ve been texting my friends and family and they all thought I was upset with them? I never noticed that it would set a completely different tone to the conversation. Thank you for teaching me this. I’ll try to remember to use less period marks at the end of my texts, starting now

@@Social_Chameleon Not everyone sees it as a bad thing. If they did, I would think they’d eventually talk to you. People usually pick up on the fact that you do it with every text, meaning it should’ve become just part of your texting style. It’s normally more like if you don’t typically use periods in your texts and then suddenly you do for a few texts. That’s when some people might start to worry that they did something to upset you.
