As the Wired article put it, Raynald Aeschlimann wasn’t on board when Hayek pitched the concept. So Hayek suggested it could just be a service loaner. Eventually Aeschlimann came around when he saw the final concept (and Hayek has said many times he had final say anyways over the Omega CEO). The main reason the initial run was so low was because Hayek moved the launch date ahead from May to March to coincide with Watches & Wonders and they were figuring out the new production methods on the fly. As for why it’s still not online, I would guess they like the increased foot traffic to their stores and want to milk it for as long as possible.

This was a very informative video, I learned a lot. I recently saw a $30 Chinese clone of this watch next to a real one and I was kind of shocked. The image of the Planet on the battery cover wasn't as crisp and clear but still looked very good. Other than that, the watch looked 95% identical. Even the box looked incredible. At $30, you could buy the whole set for just a little more than one watch!

The theory makes sense, it can be true. Swatch cannot ask for over $300, it is too expensive already for what it is. Imagine that for less than its price you can buy a Swatch made out of stainless steel and with an automatic movement, the Sistem Boreal. One of my favourite Swatches. The only reasons people paid as much on it was the name Omega written on it and the design. But they served their purpose. I have seen many people that were not into watches getting one or a few and then moving to more expensive pieces or even luxury ones. Swatch is a master at bringing people into the watch collecting.

I own the sapphire sandwich, 3861 Moon watch that I bought new. I don’t think it devalued the brand at all. Before it was only a watch for those that were nerds of NASA. Now my watch is way more noticed post moonswatch that pre moonswatch. I get more compliments for my speedmaster than I do my 39mm Rolex oyster perpetual. Not that it happens super often but I’m in sales plus I go out a lot to events for work and play so I interact with more people than the average person.

I had an old Seamaster with a quartz movement with an odd way to change time through pushing a pen in the crown which engages a amall button. I got rid of it and got a new Seamaster 300 heritage Does any body remember a Quartz omega chronograph with a thin bar at the bottom of the face which selected the various modes

It would have been so much better to use the Eta 251 rather than the G10, for us nerdy watch guys, i know the G10 will last a long time but the 7 jewel 251 is so much better than a G10, i may have got one myself, i do think if it had stayed as a loaner they would become very collectable, anyway just subbed.

Listening to Britt Pearce and about effing time. The moonswatch was a watch to build hype for swatch. They’re a sinking ship and although the moonswatch was a short term boost, their reputation has slightly sunk with this one. Behind the moonswatch, the blancpain fifty fathoms and the omega seamaster was also in contention.

The bio ceramic material is just another cheap polymer and bad quality at that. The true value should be around the same as the replicas as the are both garbage. All the watch did was bring down the omega brand in my opinion. It also might be one of the worst made swatch watches to date.

Sorry, but it's garbage. It feels like cheap plastic, tends to fall apart, some have been known to stain the wearer's wrist, the strap is terrible and the movement is nothing special. I happily passed.
