Can it be any other way though? The more I think about it the more obvious it becomes. It's more our very limited capacity for understanding, that we tend to overestimate, which prefers to think in isolated boxes. But everything is kind of connected to everything else, nothing truly exists in isolation and the more I realise this with my body the happier I get funnily enough...

I've been fighting malocclusion for decades. I've spent over $150,000 seeing countless forms of orthodontists, dentists, and even surgeons. (I had orthognathic surgery) None of this has worked to fix the malocclusion and my chronic pain and overall lower upper body strength. I'm trying one more orthotic ($8500) in a few weeks as one more last ditch effort. My posterior teeth don't touch, and this leads to a neverending struggle for my jaw to find its home. 20 years.... It's horrible having a malocclusion. The daily tension in my face destroys quality of life. I envy people who have no idea what I'm talking about.

You can simulate biting by pushing your tongue against your upper palate. Masseter activation isn't as forceful as with something to bite on, but you can do this throughout the day and shift the balance by pushing with the tongue to either side. I most often place my tongue just behind my front teeth, where the palate angles upward. I'm pretty sure I picked this up from ashtanga yoga some 10 years ago.

Wow, I've had TMJ since i was a kid and finally getting it treated by a dentist. TMJ made working out a nightmare for me cause all my muscles of mastication are tense and overused and i had a terrible shoulder pain on my left side and headaches as a result. It took me so long to figure out these issues were coming from my TMJ. Once i figured it out, my dentist made an orthotic to stabilize my bite, all these symptoms went away and I am actually excited to get back into working out once i'm symptom free and the muscles have rehabilitated. So this is so legit, especially for those with TMJ issues.

Hey this is exactly what I've been working on nonstop these past five years. I actually have a heavy distortion in my spine down up from my jaw all the way down to the hips. Because I have this since birth many bones in my body are distorted. I've practiced an enormous amount of Qi Gong though and that is why I'm entirely pain free now. It was a huge effort but I have voluntary control over the smallest muscles now and therefore can immediately adjust my posture any second as I'm completely in control of my tension. It feels amazing to be honest, insane effort but so worth it (in my case at least)

Thank you for making this. I've been trying to explain how my dentist is fixing my posture through jaw alignment, but all the other videos are too complicated or not entertaining enough to share with my family. I like how this focuses on the benefits of strength gains and less muscle tension, rather than some kind of perfectionistic postural restoration for the sake of it (because most people just won't be into that).

I want to share my experience ralated to this: My jaw and my teeth felt very aligned my whole life. After orthodontic treatment where doctor did not like my occlusion and decided to make the bite "better" and shaved of about 10 teeth "eyeballing" the resulting "better bite", the procedure is called occlusal equilibration, it destroyed my teeth, jaw and balance. I could not touch most of my teeth, my neck started to hurt, my posture changed, I started having scoliosis, one of my legs felt shorter, I dont want to go into detail about the teeth/jaw symptoms itself which were a lot. Everyone around me was telling me I was imagining things. I read a lot of papers finding these ones you mentioned, I was sure it was caused by teeth misalignment. I am very happy I came across this video you saying the same. I am not a doc myself and people don't give credit to what I say. I am very happy you made a video about this. This was a relieve. Thank you.

The other way round. The proper posture leads to proper jaw and face development. Many fighters make neck exercises by hanging weights on something textile, e.g. a towel, biting the towel on both ends and pulling backwards or to the side, of course, from the right position. As a side effect this pulls the jaws and they become wider. And neck strength is beneficial to avoiding being knocked out when hit in the head.

7:40 I crack and stretch my jaw as easily and readily as I crack and stretch my spine and neck throughout the day. Move your lower jaw from side to side, to the point where you feel a stretch at the extremes. Then try rotating it clockwise and counter-clockwise on the horizontal plane, (on the lateral plane parallel to the upper jaw). Once every few days I'll get an unholy crack there which releases a lot of tension. Mewing for about 5 years now, my sinuses feel a lot clearer now, far less congestion. Just finished orthodontic treatment for malocclusion at the start of this year too.

I remember individuals with foot problems being helped by this procedure. May all they really needed was to adjust the way the teeth strike and rest on the jaw line. Makes complete sense.

Most of us fall in this boat: you now know the issue, but you can't accept that you do infact have an issue which *can* be fixed... hence your mind considers it impossible to move your jaw to the correct location and tention, we must fix this issue first. This is for underbite mostly: Its possible to fix this all through unconscious mewing and *identifying* as one who has a mind that is correcting its self to one that have a corrected jaw. Having braces with bands in top of that may or may not help... I never used bands in my braces (say what you will, I didnt know the effect but I'm I'm 10 yrs w/o braces now). But in recent 3 years I have been using this mental technique, honing my unconscious, and eventually I could hold posture and noticed I had a new issue-- I was sooo focused on having my bite aligned (where I'm pulling my jaw forward to meet front and bottom teeth at rest) that simply trying to hold my jaw there was impossible. My jaw did not have muscles built up in the correct location to even sustain correct positioning and mewing. But normal mewing isnt enough, so also work out your jaw per *every* alignment position AND motion between positions. Eveny shoulder position is critical to how haw muscles are engaged. You'll realize I'm implying move your head like a slow joystick and mew-- yes. It takes a LONG time, but building the mindset is the key accelerator. It can be fixed in perhaps 2 years or less with the right mindset and regimen. The tention on the front teeth created a gal widening action in the molars that guides them outwards, in addition to applying tounge pressure on bottom molar walls which together can eventually reshape and re-strengthen your bottom jawline. Mouth guards that distribute pressure evenly during workout should help, but I've never used them. Perhaps they can influence bottom molars to angle outwards, but thats gonna happen as theres tention and lack ther of from changing how you clench. Again, its hard to build into habit, adding tounge pressure on the side walls of your molars and also just to your front teeth to support the lockup. GL folks!

i realized this trying to fix my body, months ago. I've had a terrible run in with bruxism, it caused me to have an uneven bite and grind half my jaw away. I was so depressed about it to do anything about it. I had nothing during that time. Now I'm trying to improve myself, firstly addressing my teeth and posture.

Since you said you clinch your jaw a lot, do you know about the connection between orofacial-jaw tension-vocal issues-pelvic floor tension?

Our teeth are not suppose to touch unless we're eating, drinking or swallowing ... so wouldn't it be best to relax jaw and use tongue to press against the roof of mouth during exertion?

Ive been binging ur videos lately because u go in depth on research backed topics and ur videos are always cleverly based off of those burning questions that people typically think of when they find themselves wondering "how does the science behind this particular thing actually work and have we been lied to on this subject by large corporations" which is something that u learn is often the case on this channel, for example when u broke down the history of vegetable oils u showed that the negative effects were clearly known in studies but because of the easiness to produce vegetable oil and that its cheaper to produce in bulk, it was advertised as healthier than animal fats which is literally a total false claim and the science proves the opposite

Awesome video! Wondering if you can make a video for CARs/FRS training. It seems strange to me that people who do it or teach it don't look that muscular😅

This connects with the orthotropic folks in big ways. I would not use a mouthpiece as there is no reason I should need an external prosthetic to align my teeth. Also not convinced that jaw clenching is itself pathological.

This is far off topic, but would you consider doing a video showing which wild fruits and vegys were available to the people in the middle east? What kind of fruits did the people who tended flocks of goats and sheep eat? There was no agriculture so if they ate anything that grew, what was it? Thanks.

Just to add to this, many comments here focus on muscle imbalance in the jaw when infact it most likely is also teeth misalignment. that can only be fixed with braces or invisalign. and not with chewing on one side of the jaw.

It's called Orthotropics, and it's been around a while. I have this exact issue, 6 years of neck gear misaligned my jaw, and gave me scoliosis, as well as occipital nuralga. Takes a lot of work to undo.

I also deal with tmj, scoliosis and pelvic tilt and have my left lateral incisor is missing and that made my teeth tilt and move toward my left by a bit therefore my jaw is misaligned and more forward on the right (+ it's positioning on the neck) And my left rib is more outward It usually gives me a hard time maintaining deep sleep ( it literally prevents me from sleeping on my back or sides, it's not uncomfortable per say it's just that no matter what, i can't go to sleep while I'm in said positions) What can i do to fix all this? I'm planning to get an orthodontist appointment for braces and implant, but I've heard orthodontists specifically doing braces and pulling teeth backwards can ruin your face therefore its better to see a orthotropics for this matters but there are non in my country

Makes sense the act of throwing a punch we always clench our teeth. But the left right paradigm is interesting to understand signals from either hemisphere of the human brain and the possibility of slight weaknesses in the pathways or whether it due to afferent signals from clenched areas or efferent signaling. Interesting and as always your content is very thought provoking. ❤🌅❤

Nice video. Would have been nice if you had provided the link to the article you referenced at 1:18. Apart from giving proper credit to the researchers/propounders of this theory it will help those wanting to get a more in-depth reading of what you outline here. Of course, a Google search will yield it, but ethically and in principle a link in your description box would be the right thing to do.

I was always told by dentists that i have perfectly fine teeth but I always felt like there was some misallignment in my teeth. But i also have mild scoliosis. I think that this was most likely caused by tailbone discomfort i had from a young age sitting on a shitty plastic chair with no padding for hours until my tailbone felt sore. And so that chair most likely gave me scoliosis and made me assymetrical as a result.

This makes mewing more accurate imo. Mewing is a technique where you let the tounge touch the upper pallate of your mouth while your teeth allign. This should be a natural position for the tounge. The force from the tounge will expand your upper pallate and therefore create more space for your teeth. This will increase your posture and prevent you from breathing with the mouth. It will make your face grow more upwards and make your jaws stronger which result in a more beautiful appearance. Look up Dr. Mike Mew on youtube for more information.
