Life is full of ups and downs, without the downs, the ups mean nothing.
The government hospital is about 20 minutes away from us. We're glad it's close by. We brought mom because she had a headache, weakness and severe dizziness.
The doctors said it was nothing serious. And after they took tests, performed an exam and prescribed medication they sent us home.
In the morning we heard a familiar sound echoing throughout the neighborhood. Someone was sawing a tree with a chainsaw. Boria decided to take a look. It turned out that they were sawing coconut trees and cutting them into boards right there.
The coconut tree is called the "tree of life" because all of its parts, from top to bottom, support human life. It is probably the most useful tree in the world. The trunk of the tree is used to make charcoal and lumber for construction, furniture, jewelry and crafts. The bark is used to make paper. And coconuts are used to make oil, shampoo, perfume and more.
I started the laundry. This is a family activity for us, and we often help each other. Boria rinse the laundry and Mom and I hang it out in the sun.
The problem with hand washing is that it takes a long time for clothes to dry. Plus, the weather in the tropics is unpredictable: one minute the sun is shining brightly and the next minute it's pouring rain. Boria and I decided that when we had some extra money, we would buy a washing machine. It will help us a lot and save us time.
Our papaya seedlings are growing by leaps and bounds. And we still don't have our own land to transplant them.
In fact, the growth rate and size of some of the native plants amazes Boria.
He saw on the Internet that papaya can be calibrated and decided to shorten its stems.
The leaves and stems will not go to waste.
We read that papaya leaves make an incredibly healing tea. It strengthens the immune system, anesthetizes, helps treat Dengue fever, improves stomach function, improves the cardiovascular system, and rejuvenates the skin. It is even said to help in the prevention and treatment of cancer.
Husband and I went to the city of Tagum to get our marriage certificate. This is one of the necessary documents to obtain a spousal visa.
February 16, 2023 is the day our lives changed for the better. Boria and I woke up to a slew of notifications from our English-language KZbin channel Island life. It turned out that one of our videos had gone viral and was getting a lot of attention.
From a few subscribers, our channel started to grow by the minute. And in just three days we gained 12 thousand subscribers.
Our channel began to monetize, and finally our labors bear fruit. Kind people began to send gifts and donations. With these donations we bought our first washing machine.
When we installed the washing machine, we were relieved. Mom and I will no longer be tired from doing laundry. This is a great accomplishment for us and we are very grateful to you.
We are happy. Filipinos helped us a lot during this difficult time. When we left Russia, all we had was what we had in our suitcases.
There was a time when I was going to quit putting out KZbin videos and was going to get a job in the city to help. My husband convinced me that we needed to keep going and that one day we would be rewarded.
And now we are very excited to share our lives and our passion for making beautiful videos. We enjoy reading comments about what you like about our videos. Just a suggestion, Darlene. Maybe Boria's mom can get her senior citizen card from where you are residing now so she can get 20% discount for her consultations, lab tests, medicines, groceries, eating in restaurants. Maybe, she can also avail or apply at your LGU of social pension of 500-1000 pesos since she has no pension from SSS, GSIS and doesn't own any land property. Just try, what is there to lose. To top it all, your mother-in-law is not accustomed to the Philippine climate so avoid exposing her to too much heat and she is an elderly. Just concerned for her health, hope you don't mind. Happy that your youtube is gaining more subscribers!!!

Unfortunately, the law says senior citizen's cards and discounts are only applicable for Filipinos. At least, Darlene was able to ask the front desk of the hospital to lower their fees.

Whilst I have every simpathy for your current situation i fear for the future in terms of your economic situation and the fact you cannot work to earn a living. You tube has a life span and people move on with time and your income will surely dry up. You cannot expect the Philippine Government to subsidise you and the family since you have not contributed to the countries treasury by paying tax etc., to date. Just my opinion folks but you need a plan B for sure. Best wishes whatever you do.

I have the same prescription as Mama Katya . Atorvastatin is for high cholesterol , Carvedilol is for the heart,aspirin is a blood thinner . I pray she don't have high blood pressure becouse once you have it like I do ,it would be a life time of meds maintenance. Feel better Mama Katya , many FILIPINOS love you . Sleep , & rest more ... Actually, Atorvastatin is a long term maintenance drug. Hopefully, the doctor provided all the info needed because once Mama Katya started taking it, she’s going to have to continue with it long term.

I am not sure whether I posted it but I will post/repost this message because my impression with your mother is true to my heart If your mother in law becomes a Filipino citizen, she can get a senior discount card with a lot of benefits including 20% off medicine and many medical services, prescriptions, restaurants, transportation, and maybe other social supports. I am not sue but she might get money per her age. She might qualify for Philippine citizenship because of her lenght of stay. What have you got to loose checking this out. I think papaya can only be propagated thru seeds...you can keep some due to limited spaceand while they grow you can bend the stem in the ground..so that they will not grow tall...

Good to hear nothing alarming to momi katyas health.. but since she has hypertension, she has to avoid any fried foods.. & also avoid red meats… only white meat, veges, salad, fruits, & wheat bread… minimal ruce, low salt if ok zero sugar to coffee n tea… the meds are cheap because its generics yet effective..its a wise buy… also since its a govt hospital the pay is almost free… in private hospitals are insanely expensive… so you made the right decision & choices…

Hi Boris and Darlene! Atorvastatin is a long term maintenance drug for high cholesterol. Hopefully, the doctor has given you both all the info. In the future, make sure to ask as many questions about the meds you’re being prescribed because some drugs require that you take them long term so it’ll obviously be a cost that you’d have to include on your monthly expenses. Take care!!!

Please take Hibiscus tea for high cholesterol, effective, cheap and safe. No side effect. Also please avoid eating carbohydrates and sugar. Also Hawthorn powder with Mother-worth teas are very good for Hypertension. Also try Fasting with water only 3 x a week, this cleanse our organs and circulatory system. Also daily exercise. Low Carb diet and eating more green leafy, protein rich food like meat, fish and beans will make a big difference in our health.

Sweet family, I,ve enjoyed watching this video. I feel sorry the papaya trees didnt made it.. You should have left 2 trees. Its a very easy.plant and useful. Dont use too much.papaja leaf tea, because it lower the bloodpressure very fast and can cause dizzyness. We use it for dengue treatment no.longer than 3 days. You can dry it and drink it as tea once a week. Save the dry leaves in a conrainer. You know that papaya leaves also can used for soften meat. You can just wrap the meat with salt and spices in the leaf and after an hour or less you can fry it. Especially goat meat and beef. Tell mother before she take a shower, she at first let the.water runs over her feet and then the other parts of the body. In my country its very hot these days and we use to sit with our feet in a bucket of water, (cold water is the best). I love gardening videos and also woodcrafting from Boris and crochet from Darlene.. God bless this family.
