My theory is that when Taka and Zira were cubs, one day she saw that he had gotten a scar. And since she probably had a crush on him (and felt bad for him), she used a stick or something to give herself a wound so he wouldn’t feel as sad

Zira was most likely got her ear wounded by her own pride which would result in her killing them except for her mother so I’m guessing it was her father that did it to her when she was a cub

@SimbasGuardWT: For everyone going with the actual theory that's been confirmed by Disney that Kovu was/is NOT Scar's son, everybody says that and going along with that now. But however still, the theory still remains that Kovu was/is still his adoptive son. So I get they're not in any relation of them being blood related. But it really feels more like saying: "Being adopted means that they're NOT even partly your relatives at all whatsoever!" Which is like exiling them outwards for just the ideal matter of them as just NOT being related! Which is only also like exiling the idea of Kovu NOT even really being Scar's adoptive son, to NOT being Simba's adoptive cousin, And to NOT being Kiara's adoptive 2nd cousin, or also known for referring to Kovu NOT even being even being considered as Kiara's uncle! But it still doesn't make it right. Not considering any of that about Kovu all for those matters, despite him not being blood related to Scar, to Simba and even to Kiara. Which still kind of somewhat still doesn't really even make any sense just considering all for Kovu just being adopted, ya know.

@@greatmyths86Scar named Kovu as His Heir, but that does not count as an adoption. A King could just as easily name His Top Advisor Heir To The Throne. That does not mean said Advisor was adopted by The King. Nuka's comment that "Scar just took Him (Kovu) in" is likely meaning just accepting Kovu into The Pride, not that Scar adopted Him. Just as when Simba was considering accepting Kovu into His Pride He was not considering adopting Him as His Son (Although, Yes He undoubtedly knew He was inducting His future Son-In-Law into His Pride by doing so). When Kovu asked Simba to join His Pride (regardless of His evil intentions at the time) He was not asking Simba to adopt Him. I know full well that in real life if someone is adopted into a family, said adopted individual is unequivocally a member of the family They were adopted into no if ands or buts.

In _The Lion Guard,_ it's said that after Simba became King, Zira challenged Simba's authority to the throne by telling him about Scar choosing Kovu as his successor. When Simba denied Scar being the rightful king, Zira attacked Simba and lost, which resulted in her and the rest of her followers being sent away to the Pride Lands. I like to believe that Simba ripped off part of Zira's ear during/at the end of her battle.

@@DeluxeDisney Yeah. It further exemplifies Zira and Simba's rivalry. I imagine that Zira was fully aware of what Scar did to Mufasa based on her praising Kovu for having the same "conniving mind that made Scar so "powerful" and the "blackness in his soul" and how in The Lion Guard, she is not at all surprised or in denial when she is told that Scar is a killer, implying she knew this and hid this from Kion. She knew how opportunist and evil Scar was and loved him for that, likely even making an unspoken agreement with him to keep the whole thing confidential. And when she and Simba fought after Scar was killed, she at some point revealed her knowledge in what Scar had done, which prompted Simba to banish her under the bane of death, possibly taking an ear from her as well.

I love Zira's design! I personally think Kuzimu (Zira's father) caused the hole in her ear. Also Kovu isn't Scar's son, they said so in TLK 2.

Kovu isn’t scar’s son but he and Zira definitely did mate for awhile since they had nuka.

Nuka and Vitani are also not Scar’s children. Those relationships got scrapped when they decided not to make Kovu Scar’s son but his protégé to avoid an incestuous plot line between him and Kiara, and so they scrapped the idea that Nuka and Vitani would be Scar’s biological kids as well to explain why Nuka was not chosen to be Scar’s successor.

I still have my fan theory of Scar being the one to give Zira her ear scar. She chased Nala out of the pride lands and when scar found out he attacked her warning her to never go against him like that ever again.

@@the-nina-beans88 Yeah, I agree with that, for the most part. After all, in a deleted scene, Scar wanted Nala to be his queen and she rejected him *vehemently*. Who's to say that in a fit of both jealousy and sheer devotion, she chased Nala away for such a "disgusting show of rebellion' or something or other? In the live action, Nala left on her own, but that's assuming the live-action is true-to-canon.

Yeah but in keeping with true to life lion pride mechanics, the ruling male lion would have taken all the female lionesses as their own and attempted to mate with all of them to further their bloodline so I’m sure Scar would have tried to take both Sarabi and Nala as his mates even if he made only one his loyal queen.

@@deeplyrooted5214 yeah but the lion king is fictional so only some pride rules would of apply. Plus Scar would have killed Nala when she was a cub after taking over the pride lands. And the Lion guard in reality would have been seen as a threat to the pride of a male dominated lion group.

Most lions have many scars. It’s actually funny that Zira and Scar’s are made such a big deal of, with Scar even being named after his. It’s pretty small compared to the scars many real lions have.

Could be anything. You only presented us with two options, both of which are unverified and a stretch to begin with. It’s also entirely possible that the animators designed her this way specifically to add to her intimidation, and they never planned a reason behind the hole. In this instance, she never “got” the hole, she was created with it.

I like all your theories, but kovu was not scars kid because Nuka said that scar wasn’t his father. He just took him in, so therefore Nuka was probably scars kid kovu we don’t know his father and vitani could be Nala’s half or whatever Sister or possibly her daughter and if Sarabi and Saraphina was sisters, then that means Simba is married to his niece so yeah, the theory just don’t add up. I love them but that just makes more plot holes. And I’m confused about lol

I think Nuka and Vitani were Scar's children, making them prince and princess by blood and title since Scar and Mufasa were born as princes (then mufasa became king of course.)

There is a comic out on how zera got her ear scar when she was a cub she was in a river accident scar pulled her to safety and they were playing together a year later as cubs but scary played a little too rough with zera and bit a chunk off her ear her river accident as she was an adult was not the first time we don't technically know of she is truly dead yet to be honest it would not suprise me if she escaped we only seen her go under a log briefly before being sweaped away for all we know she could have made it

I highly doubt even if zira was captured by humans as you said in your second theory that they would have been poachers or that they would have spayed her there are lots of other movies that suggest that sometimes Zoos would send people to round up various different animals like lions, rhinos, zebras, and other such animals for zoos and most of them would not want the animals neutered or spayed because in most those cases they would want to try to breed the animals in captivey especially if they believed they were endangered species. So while I believe that nuka and vitani are more than likely scars kids I also believe it was just as likely that zira was indeed their mother where I don't believe that either is true of Kovu I don't believe that either are related to kovu in any way shape or form
