Sometimes you can use the black as earth as well, if you find in the wire brown (L) grey (N) and the black then is for earthing, normally you can find that in the armed cables

Good video. I would consider L1 as brown (switching line) and L2 as Black (permanent line) for the fan overrun after the bathroom light is switched off. Red yellow blue / brown black grey. Yellow was a permanent on lighting circuits back then. Grey as neutral theses days. I know the above are the new and old phase colours, and were on a single phase circuit in this video. It’s just an easy way to remember it.

Hi, great videos, thank you! One question, on my existing pull cord switch there are only two wires - live and switched live there is no neutral. Do I need to run a separate neutral cable from the pull cord box, having connected that to the extractor fan switch neutral wire and connect to the neutral wire at the light ? Thank you

Jk957 in 3 cord wires cable there is no blue but black brown and grey. So black is Neutral ( blue sleeving ) brown is brown and grey is also live so you put brown sleeving over it.

Hi How2D2, Thank you for your very clear steps on how to wire the fan extractor with timer to pull cord light switch. The problem I have is that my pull cord light has just permanent live (L) and Neutral (N) wires. On the pull cord switch, the L wire is connected to the COM point while the N wire is connected to the L2 point to switch on the light. There is no other wires going from this bathroom light point to any other light point (i.e. the bathroom light pull cord switch is an end point). So, in this situation how do I create a switched live wire at the bathroom pull cord switch that I will connect to the switched live terminal of the timer fan extractor (or isolator). For example, I connected the switched live wire of the fan extractor to the L1 point on the bathroom light pull cord switch but the fan extractor did not work (instead it dimmed the light). Please help.

you should use the Wago 221 sir, they are much smaller than the chunky 222. and they are clear so you can visibly check the ferrel.

This is a good video. I do have one question regarding the fan isolator:- With the fan isolator mode set, can one use the bathroom light without the fan coming on? This might seem a daft question, but I don't recall seeing the bathroom light bulb in your schematic. I normally have a wash from a hand basin and only occasionally shower. Thus I would leave the fan isolated until I wanted to shower.

Just install a PIR motion-sensor extractor fan. Also known as a room occupancy sensor. That being the PIR motion-sensor function is built into the fan itself thus requiring a simpler Live and Neutral feed.

This means u only have a switch wire going to the light switch. your loop (live n neutral) is going thru the rose, take all 3 connections from the rose, forget the light switch if the loop does not go thru it.
