Locked one of these Howa 1500 actions in 6.5X55 down in a B&C Medalist stock. First time out to the range the rig produced consistent sub 0.5” groups!

I have built two guns just like you described. Both with KRG Bravo stocks. First gun was 24 in. heavy barrel .308, second was 26 in heavy barrel 6.5 CM. First time at the range they both shot better than .8 MOA using Federal Gold Metal Match. Currently working on hand loads for both of them. So far .308 is liking the Hornady 178 ELD-M with Varget powder. The 6.5 is liking several bullets, 142 SMK, and 147 Hornady ELD-M. Working with several powders for the 6.5 H-4350, Hybrid 100-V, and IMR-4451. Can't wait to see how your gun shoots. Keep up the good work.

@@jonzie1228 - I don't mean to badmouth the Howa 1500. The Howa is a great action to rebarrel for a accurate gun build I have re barreled several of them. They do not need any action trueing the machining on them is excellent and true and straight. They get bad rep in the US because they have metric threads. And most gunsmiths in the US don't like to cut metric threads but it is very simple if you understand how to cut metric threads on a English Lathe. You cant beat them for the amount they sell for.

I have been trying to get a Howa 1500 22-250 and a .223 mini action to shoot I have glass bedded both of them changed triggers torqued them reloaded lots of bullet weights and powders. They are driving me nuts I never had this much trouble getting guns dialed in. It started first with a defective box of Barnes Varmint Granades once I discovered this I swapped bullets and went to work 55gr Vmax did pretty well. but have struggled with 55 gr Speer TNT and have given up on them. Hornady 52gr ELD's no good. At this time August-Sept. of 2021 It is hard to get more than a box of 100 of any bullets and gun powder is hard to acquire. So when I was able to buy three hundred Speer TNT's I was thrilled I am out of 55gr Vmax the only bullet that seems to group in these rifles. I was fortunute to get some CFE223 powder. I have used Xterm. RL 15. TAC. W748 was promissing. Then I saw that you gave up on your 6.5 Creedmoore Howa. Do I need to get a hold of Legacy Arms? I am thinking that setting the barrel back with a rechamber or going to a 1&12 twist barrel. I think Legacy needs to steep up on this one.

Thanks for the video series. I watched the follow up as well? I waffled between the 6.5 CM and 6mm CM and decided on the 6mm for less recoil and better shot follow up. So with my Howa 1500 in 6mm CM with factory ammo, what do you feel the minimum barrel length is (shooting suppressed) without sacrificing accuracy and complete burn? Have you done any work up? I'm not trying to build a "truck gun", nor will I be competing in a PRS. So I'm not looking at super short, or long, but that sweet spot length (w/ suppressor) w/o additional length.

New hunter here, primarily hunting whitetail deer in pa. Been looking for “budget friendly” entry level rifles. Looked at Ruger American, savage to T/C compass and now howa 1500 specifically the last two because of their many features. However, I’ve heard hogue stocks on howa aren’t great but these opinions are from competitive shooters. Question is this: what stock should I buy with the howa 1500 barreled action for accurate 1-2 shot performance for hunting? Or would the included hogue stocks work just fine?
@Drgunzo616 Жыл бұрын
I know this reply is a year late but I think the hogue stocks are fine for hunting. Not sure what ranges you're normally shooting at deer but 200 yd would be a pretty long shot where I'm at in Michigan. Realistically I don't see myself taking any shots over 150 yd. And at those ranges accuracy gains from your stock aren't really going to add up to much in the real world.

And given Hornady's semi-recent fixation on mapping ballistics, I'm confident those drag numbers are at least sufficiently close, and if that's the case, this could be exciting. And no hard feelings, the .50 cal AMAXs are basically an A-tip, as they have an aluminum tip, too, so at least there's precedence for a misunderstanding.

The idea of offering a barreled action is great! It should be though, in a more popular caliber, and if you want a 6mm cartridge, it should be the .243 Winchester. After all, who doesn't like the venerable .243 Win? So you offer the .243 Win. in a fast twist barrel, say 1-8, or 1-9, and you can stabilize the heaviest of bullets, it's ballistically superior to the Creadmore cartridge, and there is a ready supply of brass and all other necessary components already on hand. Oh wait, I get it this is how the firearms companies can sell more stuff to us that we really don't need. Silly old me for thinking they have any agenda other than making money!

I dont get why you would spend that much on a gun, I bought a savage 7.62x51 for 350 dollars, I added a scope, sling and bipod it set me back about 475 dollars and I've had the gun for about ten years and I've taken deer with it at about 300 yards, I've taken silhouette targets at about 500 yards ( my eyes are getting old) I just dont see the purpose of buying a higher end rifle with expensive ammo that's hard to get. If there are any positives about buy such a rifle I would love to hear about them. Great video, I like hearing about the shooting sports.

Why do all these people by these silly new cartridges are just as good as the old ones you just bought a 243 😴

You shouldn't just throw the old stock away, sell it, use that to further you're build.

Old timers took a stock BDL, threw a 4 power scope on it and killed animals at 800 plus yards...... what has happened to us as the human race?

Well, Remington went to total shit. So that’s one thing that’s happened.

There are a LOT of compelling rifles out there, including old ones, no?

Brownells sure isn't cheap. I realize they have expenses, but a $200 markup on a basic, blued barreled action in 308 for $525? I can buy a barreled howa action in a shit stock for 200 less than that, put on a decent scope and laminate stock for what just the barreled action costs at Brownell's. No thanks.

That bravo is such an ugly stock though 🤦🏻♂️. I can’t. The Howa actions though have to be THE most underrated action.

It’s convenient, and they may be well built.... but do y’all not know the origin of Howa? They are a Japanese company, and built the Arisaka and so many other armaments for the Japanese army in WWII. I don’t buy anything from a company that killed that many Americans

The war's over, and anyone involved with the the Japanese MIC that started it is dead and buried long ago. Got nothing to do with today's world.
