While I enjoyed this small story line I do get why they didn't take it further- Howard was adamant about not having any sort of relationship with his dad and knowing anything about him, and there's no way to include his brother more in the show without changing that. It's actually a very realistic way to handle his storyline because in real life you can't have it both ways- Howard can't build a relationship with his brother while vehemently hating his father so much that he doesn't even want to read a card from him. Just like all of us, he can't choose love and hate.

0:20 it sucks Howard never confronted his father issues, I mean, he never really grew out of his father issues to clear he still holds lots of resentment and anchor, and that’s not healthy for anyone, especially a new father and husband. His problem is he never left that child mentality. He had an point of view when his father left him his mother cuddled him and guilt tripped him his whole life after that so he never really good. I’ve seen his mother as a mother, but also a person he still saw her as just a mother. I never let go of the resentment and sadness of what his father did, and got therapy. I really wish Howard was shown going to therapist at the end of the show, and finally grown into the man he should be realizing he has a great life and he doesn’t need his father.

Happy Days did this episode 1st. The Fonz's dad ran out on him, and he discovered he too has a paternal younger half brother, who he slammed the door on, and later embarrassed with open arms. It should be noted that Fonz was raised by Vito's mother. Louisa Fonzarelli, Arcola Delvecchio is Vito's sister, Fonzie's aunt, and Chachi's mother. And Spike's dad is Vito's brother. Knowing all this, why didn't anyone know about Artie?
