Thank you for videos on black tank repairs. Bought a 1990 LTV campervan. Was told they took the toilet was out because they needed space for their guitars, but the black tank underneath was still there. They forgot to mention that the black tank has lots of cracks and leaks. I’m half way through fixing the tank. So far, so good. Thanks again.

Outstanding video! Straight forward, clear 1-2-3 steps and key dos & don’ts. Not just the HOW but also - WHY you did it that way. Well done! Getting ready to do 2 tanks that we’re not disclosed on a used 5th wheel.

Thanks for the video! Fixed my black water tank today. I haven't filled yet to test it, but it looks like a solid repair. It broke around the outlet fitting. I added a pipe strap near the valve to the frame to support it better.

That must be a common cause for cracking because both my grey and black water tanks cracked and were not supported very well...

I like your videos they're very detailed. I have the same problem my black water tank has a small crack and it leaks and I can't find any that VPS ABS spray, but I made some of your thick ABS glue with some shavings in it and it works great. Do I have to have the spray?
@TrailerDayz4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure they make the spray anymore. It is not needed.

Ok Hopefully, even though this was done 8 yrs ago, you still see comments. I have a similar issue with my kitchen grey water tank right at the outlet. It goes pretty much directly into the stab valve and that area is where the leak is. Problem here is the dealer/shop that sold us the unit "fixed" the issue about 5 or 6 years ago and now it is leaking again. I've tried to remover their materials that were not adhering to the tank. But, the closer I get to the outlet, the thicker their patching goo gets. I'm now concerned that I can't get their mess off to have a clean start at sealing the original crack. Any suggestions?

Can this be done with stuff still in the tank and it leaking? We live in a camper and our Black tank is leaking and you could smell the raw sewage as you approach our camper

I have a long crack on the seam on the bottom of my grey water tank. Do you think this would hold in that situation?
@TrailerDayz3 жыл бұрын
Definitely, if you do it right.

How did the crack get there? Sometimes when I am draining my tank when I first open the gate valve I hear some crumbling/crinkling sound like the water is pulling a vacuum on the tank. That can't be good for the tank after repeatedly doing that. Anyway, mine is leaking now after two years. I will try your method.
@GadgetClass7 жыл бұрын
Max Hill There is an air vent going up to the roof on every tank so that it can't pull a hard vacuum. The tank will expand though and you may hear it pop back into it's original shape as it drains.

Most hardware stores don’t sell ABS cement. Is it possible to use all purpose cement? It is rated for abs
@GadgetClass3 жыл бұрын
Most hardware stores do sell ABS cement. If you local hardware stores don't, check amazon
@rufusgee8029 Жыл бұрын
They don't all sell the black, but yellow is very common. If they sell ABS drain pipe, they'll have the glue.

So ABS cement actually dissolves ABS plastic shavings?
@TrailerDayz3 жыл бұрын
Yes, ABS cement is dissolved ABS plastic in a strong solvent.

Question what's abs shaving and were is can I buy the spray I dont see it anywere
@TrailerDayz5 жыл бұрын
The ABS plastic shaving can be made using a scrap piece of black ABS pipe. I used a circular saw to cut into the pipe and make shavings. You can get ABS cement in Amazon or at a hardware store: www.amazon.com/dp/B000UG3GJQ/?tag=absrepair1-20

When you used the fiberglass cloth why didn't you use epoxy? The cloth is far stronger than the window screen as far as strength and epoxy is not as flexible. I had a large crack that made a 4" x 4" L shape and used the fiberglass fabric and epoxy in the same manner you did your repair. After it hardened I made a second larger patch over the first. The repair is stronger than the tank itself.
@mikemike44155 жыл бұрын
I agree. Did the same thing myself. Layer the epoxy on BOTH sides of the fiberglass and THEN apply it to the cracked area. Be sure to sand and clean the repair area first and let sit 12 hrs before use.

@@jcgfree not sure what brand... 10 minute 2 part epoxy and fiberglass mesh. Put down epoxy first, then push in the fiberglass, then spread more over the top to level it out. There are plenty tutorials out there.
