How To Academy Mindset

3 жыл бұрын

#gabormate #addiction #trauma Doctor Gabor Maté is an internationally renowned speaker highly sought after for his expertise on addiction, trauma, childhood development, and the relationship of stress and illness. His books include ""Scattered Minds: A New Look at the Origins and Healing of Attention Deficit Disorder"", ""When the Body Says No: The Cost of Hidden Stress”, ""Hold on to Your Kids: Why Parents Need to Matter More Than Peers” and ""In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts: Close Encounters with Addiction”. In his second How To Academy event, he explicates his groundbreaking theory of addiction and all it encompasses: from generational trauma to willpower, from evolution to modern civilisation.
In PART 2 of his How To Academy Event, Gabor explains how modern society and consumerism leads to isolation and distraction, which in turn leads to addiction. He also shows why the idea that we should blame parents is futile, and compares modern nuclear families with hunter-gatherer and indigenous communities.

Yes, Dr Maté is right: many, many children these days are stressed, this includes those in ‘good’ families which are doing the best they can. As a recently retired school teacher of young children, I saw many children like this coming into my classes. I did my best to make sure that the classroom was a ´safe’ place for them to be, so that they could relax, make mistakes and enjoy learning. Our schools generally add to children’s stress by focusing on society’s very narrow view of success! Thank you, Dr Maté!

He is the genuine article. His understanding and compassion is sadly lacking in modern psychology. His theories should be taught in schools right at the beginning to help children understand themselves and others. 😎

I was scared of my mother's rage but I also did have a lot of fun in childhood outside the home. My father was nurturing to me mainly because I didn't have a co-sibling so I followed my dad around the house when he was fixing things and always wanted to help. My father made me feel lovable and my mother didn't. So, I got a contradicting message and I do recognize the pain of my mother's rejection but also the love of my father.

I was sectioned at 16. People would say your young your smart and pretty why don't you want to live. I said because I'm not happy in this world. I would often say I'm not crazy the world is. One saying that came up alot in mental hospital as teen was if you weren't crazy when you get here you will be by the time you leave.

THank you, Dr Mate. for the courage and persistence that you have shown and still show in your life in teaching us what childhood trauma actually is,.Tthat there is no need to blame our parents, but just take up our own lives with as much courage and persistence as we can to let TRUTH become the path we walk, and LOVE. real love, become the music that we can dance to. It's a long journey, sometimes, with deep pitfalls and despair, but with each tiny evidence of progress at times, and with each little insight and ahah! experience, we walk into a light and love we never thought possible! Thank you, thank you, thank you...and God bless you for being who you are and giving us so much.

The absence of blame is beautiful and allows for self examination using compassionate questioning of the self IF ONE IS WORKING to understand ones own choices false beliefs trauma or what one was taught or prevented from knowing or stopped from doing by others who are traumatized. It is true that blaming yourself defeats the healing and ignores the trauma imposed upon the person who eventually went on to make poor choices in regards to the next generation. But only if the person is examining their choices and seeking to understand what false beliefs let themto either behave in harmful ways or to allow others (sick teachers ministra family) to mistreat.

The situation is worst for those who are sexually abused by there parents I can't even imagine there pain and struggle. I just hope people find there way to healing 🙏 💕 .

We need to grow up accept blame for wrong doing. Is "blame" now taboo? I do something wrong I must accept responsibility and take the blame. Apologize, rectify the problem where possible learn from mistakes and transform blame into wisdom

Blame is counterproductive and defensive it inflicts shame..you grow up and take 'responsibility' not blame which 'repairs.' We don't need to shame others for mistakes or when learning. Its the reason millions of traumatised adults are walking the earth continuously passing it on to the next generation.

17:15 Well, then, most of the criminals should be at ease knowing they did not do it deliberately. That wouldn't solve anything or stop the abusers to not do future traumas. Also, can we choose the type of trauma that we might conduct towards our family members in the future, if we are flawed people thanks to our past generations? This is not even moral for a person to feel or think so, not to say it's not fair, and to say 'I didn't do it deliberately'. Well, then, do not procreate until you are not ok. Finding peace in thinking and get forgiveness for 'I didn't do it on purpose (for 20 years! or, for a lifetime, in some unfortunate cases) doesn't bring the power of forgiveness or ability to improve my own life by trying to fix the past mistakes of others transferred into me and my future life ... It is more than just unfortunate. It should be treated so seriously that any possible, future parent or individual in a powerful position should reflect on himself and just try to be honest and just!

right, i hear you. mate is really easy on parents. doesnt make space for healthy guilt. hes right that theres nowone whos fault it is. i still think its parents and simply just the responsibility of being a healthy developed human being to firstly become aware of our own shit, see how it effects those around us who we love. then heal it and deal with it. the main issue is really the denial and unconciousness of it all. its too painful to admit., were too guilty to see our own shit! its why he tells the storys he tells about parents saying how they canttake it, they cant own up to who they really are and how that effects there kids! needing to be a "good" parent. its all bullshit. we all have our own childhood stuff. i really love his notion of the "myth" of the perfect childhood. its bullshit

As absolutely horrendous as the Vietnam war was. The sufferer the suffering of the Vietnamese under communism consume for 3 generations Because the Vietnam war failed. Let's never forget the sacrifice of these amazing soldiers who fought the good fight to Liberate a country that unfortunately still fell the evil of communism and socialism. There's a reason why we all live in A relative democracy and a capitalist society because it's Exponentially a better place to live. And maybe that's worth fighting for. I think everyone knows that In their heart whether they admitted or not. Including this professor

And then 4 times in 20 minutes an actress starts shouting something about cooking pans in a volume 3 times higher than your video volume. That’s a nasty way of earning a few cents.
