This video is unlisted, I think making it public would be a good idea. Love Yuval's forward thinking ideas.

:) I bet that "alien intelligence" is watching closely... We, in contrast, couldn't be bothered, what with all the shiny stuff in front of our noses.

The billionaire oligarchs currently in power are blatantly using the ignorance of the people for their own imperialistic greed. That coupled with the number of people globally who are too young to have experienced WWII etc, leaves the future in a state of precarious vulnerability. Having said that, AI also has incredibly positive possibilities for the future of mankind. Even the chat GPT amoeba is enomously helpful to me in my daily life.

I think we are very vain in thinking we'd able to spot an intelligence higher than ours anyways.. we may not be even the most intelligent thing on the planet, yet we wouldn't be able to see it. In fact, I'd argue that biology is exponentially smarter than humans, just not in a way that we can appreciate it. Trees are likely smart beings, but they operate in a whole other time dimension than us. This got very philosophical.

It depends on what “create” means. Ai can put some words together and form a text. That is a creation. AI can put a few notes together and make a melody. That is also a creation. But all these creations are soulless. If you swallow them, you become soulless.

Should we perhaps ask these questions to an engineer or scientist instead of a historian?

There are thousands of engineers and scientists weighing in on these questions and it's actually important that we start branching out into other disciplines. The time is now.

Just as humans, AI uses a form of Ockhams razor. Maybe not so alien after all?

Yes AI can create outwardly from it's formative existence, so to speak: It just spelt out, "Your ass is grass.!" The meaning we all know.

I disagree! One big difference if you compare AI to human brains also in terms of creativity is that the AI cannot evaluate its own creations. Humans will always look at their work and either be proud or (sometimes over-)criticize it. You can ask humans for their opinions, they have needs, a moral compass, dreams and ambitions. An AI does not have all that. So without human authoring it could never "improve". We constantly have to tell it 'no, that's not it', 'this is bullshit', 'this looks ugly'. It's a pain in the ass and I doubt that it will change so easily, as long as AI has no body, no needs, no pain for failure, no goals or steering-capabilities it cannot become 'conscious' and that's why it it missing originality. Sure we humans also copy other stuff to create something new, but other then the AI we don't just copy randomly only depending on context. We have an artistic vision that steers our creative work. Maybe not everyone does have that, I mean there are a lot of trash-products just for money and mass-consumption, an AI could achieve that level I guess. But for the creative work which is timeless, where the author puts a lot of thought into what feeling they want to create, what message they have for its audience, how to compose a scene, which narrative elements to use and re-use. These are problems you cannot fix by scaling. Look at how much resources AI training and AI models already need. Resources on earth are limited. How big do you imagine a computing farm for advanced AI to be? Secondly: Every company who decided to just blindly using AI as human workforce compensation is downgrading their quality. And people are noticing. They won't survive for long. Everyone who is using AI for every creative task will diminish their creative capabilities. If you don't handle this tool with care it will destroy you. Nonetheless I think AI is pretty dangerous, because of how they can be used to flood the internet with poor trash-content, which is then top on all search-engines, because of how well AI tags the content, pretty much destroying the usefulness of search engines and internet in general. How AI can be used to manipulate etc. and also unforeseen errors when using AI for self-driving cars and other areas of prior human-decision-making with high-risk responsibility...

As AI approaches and surpasses human intelligence, it will revolutionize our world. Strong AI, unburdened by human limitations, will make decisions without error. However, the current reliance on weak AI systems controlled by humans leaves us vulnerable to the risks of human error and malicious intent. With technological advancement accelerating, the singularity-the irreversible point of AI-driven change-is rapidly approaching.

Harari is speaking out of his ass. He has no expertise in this field, and yet people assume he has something to contribute. Ask him about his country's genocide against Palestinians if you want to see what this "civilised" scholar really thinks.
