I've been getting better about getting rid of them but it's still a work in progress. It used to be the case that once I started a book I'd have to finish it, but now I can let it go. It's why I've finished far fewer books this year. Started LOTS but happily abandoned a large chunk.

It was one of the most uncluttered rooms in our home to begin with so I wasn't expecting a huge change here. And, in truth, there wasn't. But I was still surprised by how much I decluttered, and am now dreading how long it'll take me to go through the more cluttered spaces. Like the kitchen. Gulp! 😂
@HannahRainbow88 Жыл бұрын
@@HowToGYST 😂 My kitchen(ette) is minimal already with only 4 cupboards for everything 😱 ... Whereas our room is crammed to the gills - just the necessary furniture alone only leaves a skinny path around our super king bed (the room is that small) AND I have to keep anything away from G in there as well as our stuff. We all have our problem areas and our better areas. Our living room - with said kitchenette at one end - is always complimented as being a cosy family space (and the sofa bed makes it double as the guest room as well 🤭). The only space I would call (unnecessarily) large is our bathroom! If only they'd put the wall further over to make our bedroom a decent size instead! But hey ho, it's only a rental for a few years, so I'll join you in decluttering anywhere I can. All the best with your kitchen when you get to it 😘

LOL, yes ma'am, being a grown-up sucks, plain and simple. Your room looks great and I'm glad you're pleased - I think you should be! I'd love to see the follow-through with the little library and stuff. My neighbors across the street have one, and it's really cool. I'm very impressed with the "borrowers" who come and pick up then return books or who trade books, or just drop books off. It's always neat and tidy - the neighbors who own the library don't live here full-time, so it's really upkept by the "patrons ". I've actually never seen anything like this before, and I think it's really cool. Best of luck with your library. Hugs from the southern California desert, MK 🤗❤️🌵❤️🤗

With the books I would prioritise decluttering the library books which you can always get again. Then prioritise reading the books you own so that they are ready to donate before you pack up and leave for Ireland. We have little free libraries in our neighbourhood. Make the library now (ie within the fortnight) or donate the books if you don’t have the bandwidth to create the free library. There will be more books arriving that you can use when you create your library and lots of your neighbours will have some too.
@valeriekravette787 Жыл бұрын
I think I had a comment bounced because it had a link... if you go to littlefreelibrary dot org you can find libraries near you, which might cut your workload. I have one half a mile from me in front of an elementary school and LOVE IT! I get a mile walk in, and get to discard usable books and even decluttered my bookmarks there. Also you might have a good used bookseller nearby to sell books for cash or credit. I have a ridiculous $700 credit with mine...they sell musical instruments, too, so I am waiting for a backpacking guitar to show up in their inventory.

I'd love to see you tackle the to-do list to finish your series. I have also thought about having a little free library to pass on my completed books. The reality is that there are several within a mile or two from my home, so I don't really need it. And, if you're trying to get ready for a big move it would give you something else to maintain. My book declutter process is to bring them to a used book store nearby and sell them. The remainder either go to a LFL or are donated to our library's book sale.

LOLing at you talking about what the cleaners must think about your camera being pointed at the bed. Shoot, that is probably the tip of the iceberg of weirdness they have seen as cleaners. lol. I love/hate to do lists! Sometimes it's like, "Oh, look! You only got 2 of the 5 top things to do today done!" Other times, I get them done, and it's like, "I did this! - Yeah, I did, but it's not such a big win that I should hang on to the post it note that I got something accomplished today." Cannot win in my own head.

My coat pockets usually contain either dog treats or poo bags! I also love a good book but have moved over to digital books and audiobooks - love a good audiobook in the car, particularly if the narrator has a good voice. I recommend the Rivers of London series by Ben Aaronovich, narrated by Kobnah Holbrook-Smith. Your reading chair looks amazingly comfy. I've been working on removing data from old laptops to send to recycling, that's this month's project. The harp is a fabulous instrument. One of my cousins, Siobhan Kelly, used to play the harp with the RTE Philharmonic. Good luck finding a tutor, look forward to hearing about your musical journey!

I'd like to see the list completed too. I'm still chipping away and only keeping what I really use, but I need a couple more things to get storage boxes off. I need a small garden shed ! My mobi!it has worsened so I usually take a 3wheeled walker or the dog stroller when I go out. The stroller is great for going on the bus or into shops. Dempsey, my 6lb chihuahua is my aspergers buddy service dog so he comes everywhere with me. He walks unless we're on the bus though as he's a dog, not a fashion accessory 😂

I think you should do your silent to do list. You're keeping books, books that you'd happily give to someone else to read. Because you've a thought that you'd like to put up a mini community library. There's costs / maintenance required for this, and your plan is to come back to Ireland. I'm not suggesting what you should to with the library, but reviewing your silent list, might mean to tease out the list and what's entailed with it - Is it worth keeping these books (maybe it is / maybe it isn't) I used to keep books and projects - these teased and bullied me if I didn't finish them. I went from 2-3 book cases, to < 10 books. It was the best thing ever, the relief not having them taunting me every day! I can still get those books from the library, or re-buy them if I want. This isn't about books, but about possessions that are not making your life better! P.s. - I still have a list! Its just a bit smaller now than before.

I'd love you to do the silent to-do-list video before moving on; as by its very nature, the silent to-do-list is, well, silent, so it's very easy to shove it in the far recesses of our mind and never get around to clearing it. I think it would be very motivating to see how you tackle that and actually complete it. Quite a challenge! Also, it would be very easy to just gloss over it and move on which I suspect is what most of us do with our silent lists.

Idk. Maybe just decide where those books will live and that is your max boundary for them. I have issues in other areas. So I just have a defined space for those kinds of things I tend to love and want more and more of, and if they don’t fit in said space, it’s time to decide what stays and what goes or what just gets relocated. I can’t exactly do that with cats lol. Idk even how I wind up with a crop of new kittens hanging around from time to time. But still I’m going to get on the work of getting them fixed and putting the word out to get the non feral ones adopted hopefully. It’s not like we didn’t run a full on TNR awhile back but some may be new or just fell through the cracks. It sounds like such a strange problem to have I know. Lol. But I really don’t invite or seek out even more kitties. It seems to just happen or people could be dumping or something. (Knowing about the resident “cat lady”). Idk. Even tho I say all the time to folks around here….I cannot handle any more cats. I’m at my max. Well at least at some point I’ll be moving. I hope to set them up with someone else when I go…(the strays and street cats to be fed) but I have to still go. Well thanks for listening to the cat trials lol. It’s not like this all the time, but boy am I feeling the stress of it lately.

@HowToGYST Жыл бұрын
Starting early because I know it's going to take me a LONG time to do the entire house. I'm taking a very slow and steady approach so I can fit it into my regular life and not be overwhelmed by it. The moving question is just one of several I ask. I'm not really focused on the future aspect (i.e. will I want to move with this in two years' time) but rather on the general feeling (i.e. if I were moving, is this important enough to take with me). Hope that clarifies things!

Yep, Cas (Clutterbug) was kicking herself for not getting her final declutter&packing done in good time BEFORE her recent move, bless her. Totally agree that there's no time like the present to get cracking on decluttering down to only things you use and/or treasure. Yes it can be like peeling an onion one layer at a time, but that's preferable to the cramming and panicking last minute, for most people.
