Thank you for an excellent video. Well done on the fix of the wood roof touching the vent pipe. I love my "Saws-All" and the clearing of previous bad work. Carry On!

Thanks Claude, now I'm an expert too! 🤓 Hey about those tank water connections, there are no galvanic breaks at the tank. That wouldn't pass in Ohio...

Hi, my water heater is in the attic and there is a leak where the pipe meets the roof or the vent. Notice a stain on my ceiling now and insulation foam wet in attic. I don’t know who to call... roofer or plumber?
@theartofplumbing3 жыл бұрын
Roofer 😉

@@theartofplumbing, please explain in a video why I can't used my old 3" B-vent, going 30 feet up out the top of the roof, and vent my power vent water heater 2" snorkeled to that. I don't see what the problem is whatsoever--so what if there's condensation, there's condensation with the normal gravity vent water heater that I have side by side. So I'm testing them both out in case one of the other goes out but I won't use them both at the same time-- unless you think there's some thing I don't know and that I can use a gravity and a power vent together but I haven't figured that part out yet quite yet.

Really? Interesting.

Continuing my Q: Even though it's a code fail, have you a video on PowerVent water heater into type B, double wall Amerivent? Cat 1 venting rules not for PowerVent water heaters--not classified type 1, so they are type 4? I tried it yesterday and it worked fine. Won't there be just as much condensation as my gravity water heater--so what's the big deal? Why should I have to convert 3" Amerivent B to 2" PVC to run a PowerVent? The PowerVent water heater is just my backup to my gravity water heater and I don't think I will run them at the same time, because they are two different categories--or can I? PowerVent will blow out the pilot on the gravity heater? Have you seen anything like that before--where the power vent water heater actually snuffed out the pilot light on the gravity water heater if they are both vented together? Good video?

The flex vent was fine. It just can’t pass through the ceiling. The single wall was definitely wrong though. Needs to be B vent through ceiling and roof with at least 1 inch clearance to combustibles.

wouldn't the silicon melt with the heat?

How hot should the backdraft pipe be getting?
@theartofplumbing4 жыл бұрын
Somewhat hot, but if it's to hot check your vent.
@a_life_painted_with_color Жыл бұрын
There's gotta be a better option to the escutcheon plate you put around the vent going through the ceiling drywall, at the end of your video here. I've got a big AC leak from the little crack around my vent pipe going through the ceiling. Someone should make a collar with an air tight/heat isolating silicone escutcheon that stops air coming from the attic.

Very professional job, I have one question, do you have to use high temp. silicone around the vent pipe because of the heat?
@tomatexelon4 жыл бұрын
He used the wrong stuff for that application
@MrDmadness4 жыл бұрын
Yes, b vent cl3arance is 1" to combustibles, thisninckudes the roof tar or silicone you use since its combustible. It also needs to extend 2 feet higher than any roof portion within 10 feet.. depending on where you live and local codes, the 2 over 10 rule is fairly standard.
