Maybe it would help to place the current pot into a slightly larger cover pot with some stones in the bottom to help weigh the bottom down? I got two Hoya Lisa plants in 6” baskets that looked pretty ragged on clearance at a local nursery for $5 USD each. Brought them home and cleaned them up, pruned, and replanted together for one full plant. It has been living on my screened porch for the last 3 months and has put on a good 6-8 leaves and the tendrils have grown 6 inches at least. It’s a fun, easy plant and I absolutely love it. Thank you for your thorough review. Your plant is stunning.

I find this to be one of the most beautiful hoyas. My first and favourite hoya :-) When spidermites were running around my other plants nearby, she was fine. When thrips, she got only very little damage. I think it is a hardy, wonderful and easy going plant

I got a large-ish cutting for $12 in a 4” pot and a smaller cutting to pot with it for $4. The leaves have such nice marbling and are nearly as big as obovata leaves. Underrated plant, in my book.

This is a keeper for me! My plant was growing great last summer…then it just wouldn’t grow. Finally I repotted it (worried about plant “liking”to be pot bound…not true in my experience by the way) and sprayed it down with azamax. It had the webless mites I think. I saw the knobby growth points where failed node activation was happening. I wish I knew about the mites sooner! I lost 8 months of growth! Now it is thriving again in chunky bark in Tera cotta pot. I love the red new leaves. It does look a lot like krimson princess carnosa, if I was thinning my collection I’d probably only keep one. Thank you for making this resource for us!

I love this beautiful fast-growing hoya. I also have 2 and I have Never had a problem with them. No bugs, no hissy fits and yes I am currently on the lookout 👀 for a few well-made trellises for many of my plants. It is winter now in Winnipeg Canada 🇨🇦 and this plant is still pushing out new growth that gives me so much pleasure. ❤😁

🌿Omg the size of yours! 😍 I agree with everything you said, its my fastest growing hoya here as well. I propagate it in a mix of coco peat and perlite (50/50) and it works very well. Its my new favorite mix to propagate almost everything 😅 In Canada, Australis lisa has become more easily available in the last year.

As much as I’d like to add another Hoya to my collection, it’s an easy $80 here in Australia and that’s for a single vine with maybe 4-5 leaves on it. Not sure why it’s that pricey, but for those in Australia who love this, but can’t / won’t on the coin, I can highly recommend the Hoya Carnosa Krimson Princess which you can pick up for around $6.00 almost everywhere. It’s the same plant with the same variegation. The only big visual difference is that on the Lisa, the leaves are more rounded. It’s not that I don’t love this plant, I do! But not everyone can afford $80. So I’m just sharing knowledge that there is a cheaper alternative that looks almost identical 🌿💚

I think I am going to follow your advice, I have a small australis Lisa but it is slowly dying at my home, and I don't know why ???? maybe a Carnosa Crimson Princess would be worth a try ! I find the australis Lisa very tricky about watering .... thanks for the tips !

Awww thanks, yeah that is one things about them, for essentially a variegated hoya it can be quite strong, I know many people who had pests or rot and it bounced back eventually. Thanks, slight cheating as it is 2 growth points in the pot, but I wanted that slightly fuller look 😊

It’s no doubt super hardy! It had root rot like 4-5 times but still growing strong! You can easily tell it’s having root rot when it got yellowing/falling leaves/stop putting out new leaves. Had around 9-10 Hoyas at some point but the Australis Lisa is the only one which is still surviving.

I am jealous ! I have many thriving Hoyas at home, retusa, wayetii, linearis and callistophyla, they are beautiful and growing peacefully but I don't know what to do with my new australis Lisa, every time I water it, it looses some leaves, there are 5 leaves left and I am very reluctant to water it now. I had the same problem with a ZZ plant, now I water it once or twice a year. I don't want to lose my Hoya australis Lisa but I think that it is a lost cause ......

Question: will it grow as a trailing plant? Mine was doing great on a trellis, but then I propagated it into a fuller plant. So far, the longest vine is about 18 inches and still standing straight up by itself. Will it eventually get heavy and flop downward?

What do you attribute to such success with this plant? This is one of my most favorite plants, too, but cannot grow it like you do, what is the problem? Is it the Gold Leaf fertilizer? My pubycalyx is really growing, profusely, in same container.. does it needed a great deal of heat..the Lisa..it gets indirect sun with a little of early morning sun with a southeast window. Gold leaf liquid in USA cost $50 and I think you indicated not same product as what you ha ve in the UK..is that correct?

Hello! it might be a little too late since this video came out but i'm looking for some help with this plant, hoping someone can help me! First of all I'm a beginner with plants and even more of a beginner with hoyas (this is my first one!) I usually make sure to let the soil dry when i water but one the top leaves always gets brown with little bit mushy spots, and the whole leaf becomes droopy so I might just have to wait little bit more?. The plant keeps on growing and the already stablished leaves are still intact, but the biggest problem for mi is that the new tiny leaves become dark almost instantly (like, black/brown... not the usual pink/reddish) and they get crinckly or overly soft. As I said, the rest of the plant is okay and still beautifully green. What I find weird is that the soil it came with stays very moist for a long time, it took a full week and a half to dry completely? I really don't know what's going on with it but I don't want to lose the plant bc I love it... Any ideas/help? Thank you in advance!

@pogonnip ~ I know it's been like 5 or 6 months since you posted this comment, but how is your plant doing? From your post, if you haven't corrected it yet, my guess would be your soil, since you said it stays pretty moist for 7-10 days. With all of my Hoyas, they're in an airy soil mixture that gets completely bone dry within about 5 days. Even after that, I still wait a few days, maybe even a week, before I give them a thorough watering. Hoyas really, really hate to be in soggy soil, especially for more than a few days. Anyway, didn't know if anybody had given you any help on this yet.

I bought a plant (well four small plants in one pot) off Etsy. It got caught up in the postal strike and when it arrived all the dark red new growth had died off. It has good root growth, but no signs of new leaf growth. I’ve had it about four weeks. Do you think it will survive? It’s in a terracotta pot in aroid mix on a south facing window in llanelli South Wales. I’d be grateful for any advice. Lounge humidity is about 74%… Thanks x

Too much strong sunlight killed new babies leaves, remove the pot 4~6 feet far away from south windows will be OK. Hoya like bright indirect light only.
