As we can see, the maximum power draw in this setup is no more than 165W from the wall. The 165W from the wall does not mean the PC system consumes 165W due to the PSU’s 80 Plus Gold rating. The PC could be consuming 85% of 165W from the PSU. Based on this concept, the whole PC consumes a maximum of 140.25W (165 x 85 / 100). This indicates that the total power draw from the CPU (65W) and GPU (70-75W) is correct, so we still have room for 40W to reach the max PSU capacity of 180W. Based on this analysis, this PC setup should be safe, and this is often seen with PC makers like HP, who install a GTX 1660 Ti on a 310W PSU and an RTX 3070 on a 500W PSU in their prebuilt PCs.

This is the same PC I have back when I was studying in college, I just want to play casual games at least 720p 60fps. So I decided to do some upgrades I put GTX 750ti and upgraded the ram. It work fine for weeks then I booted the pc at the morning I smell burning plastic. I immediately unplug the pc and I located the burning smells and its coming from the PSU. I took out the gpu and just run the system using the integrated and it works fine like nothing happens. But when I sniffed the gpu and yeah its turns out the gpu was cooked the burning smell coming was just the PSU was just exhausting the smell of my dead cooked gpu. So I decided to just buy gt 1030. its a downgrade but it does the job done for me.

Hey bro do u think my 280 psu will work perfectly fine using gt 1030?
@JeremyLeePotocki2 ай бұрын
It's running a little too close to the danger zone at times needs to not go above 150W continuous (you'll burn out the PSU quickly from the stress). However I would not upgrade the PSU due to finding a reliable propitiatory PSU costing way too much. Instead I would switch the CPU to a I7-10700T or I9-10900T. Both are 35W TDP so it'll make sure you don't go over 150W while gaming while also gaining more cache, cores & threads to boot. I had a I7-10700T for several years until I upgraded to a I5-12500T I got it paired with a RTX 4060, and the most it draws from the wall gaming is 170W in 1440p gaming. These T class CPUs are best used for systems with low wattage PSUs anyway.

I've heard conflicting things with people saying it's okay and some people saying it's not. I asked on Reddit and people say that it's fine if it's a decent PSU and such and most say the worst that'll happen is it shuts off to protect itself so i don't know which is true
@chaosisthebestsauce3 ай бұрын
you can upgrade the psu with a 400 watt or a 500 watt one's i found on amazon but that depends on your budget but thought id let you know also you can put a 60 mm fan on the black part of the hard drive cage by using a a sata to 3/4 pin adapter or a fan splitter it helps reduce the heat in it by having that be a intake fan which reduces heat by 9 degree's which isnt a lot but still helps

I’d for sure swap the PSU just for peace of mind. Do you know if this PC can use a standard power supply? I just did a PSU swap on a Dell 3620 and it worked great. It required a 24pin adapter cable to power the motherboard, but that was cheap on Amazon. I know other prebuilt machines can be a headache to swap PSU from the OEM one that has weird proprietary connectors.
@itggear34003 ай бұрын
For HP EliteDesk and Prodesk Desktop tower series with P2 7 wires or 3 wires cable and P1 4pin cable, there is no 24pin adapter to work with those PCs. We need to buy the original HP power supply replacement, as I did in my previous video. Thank you.

The HP 280 Pro G6 with the RTX 3050 doesn’t officially support Resizable BAR (ReBAR), it’s still a great combo for budget-friendly gaming. To enable it, ensure you have a compatible CPU, motherboard, and the latest GeForce Game Ready driver. If you’re using an RTX 3060, you’re good to go; for other models, check for VBIOS updates. Hello, thanks for the info! This is what i was looking for since i am planning to install a GTX 1650/1050Ti into a Lenovo M710t, sporting a huntkey 180w psu with an i5 7400. For context i am using an i5 6500 with a GTX 1650 on a dell 240w psu, works flawlessly. The 1650 consumes 75w maximum, while the 6500 is below 40w (51w peak while running prime95) Do you think the 180w psu in the lenovo will suffice?
@itggear34003 ай бұрын
Hello! Thanks for sharing your setup. The GTX 1650 does indeed consume around 75W, and the i5-7400 typically consumes about 65W under load. Adding in the power for other components, your total power draw might be close to the limit of the 180W PSU in the Lenovo M710t. While it might work, it’s quite close to the PSU’s maximum capacity, which could lead to instability or shutdowns under heavy load. For better reliability, you might want to consider upgrading to a higher wattage PSU if possible.

It could be that the GPU is running at PCIe 3.0 x8. Additionally, the OEM HP board limits power per PCIe x16 slot to 50W (refer to the HP datasheet). This is why the RTX 3050 6GB won’t run at its full speed. Thank you for watching.

@itggear34002 ай бұрын
I think a PC that comes with a 180W PSU is not likely to have any trouble since the engineers designed it to work with that power supply. However, if you want to add a GPU, it depends on which GPU you choose. If you need to install an RTX 3050 6G or any GPU with a 70W TDP, it could still run, but it might stress your PC’s PSU, potentially shortening its lifespan. Alternatively, you can use Afterburner to downclock your GPU to ensure it runs safely for the long term. Thank you.

Also, smaller wattages like 310W or 450W HP replacement PSUs are not expensive unless you choose a larger wattage like 500W or bigger.
