This video was a big help as I just did a case swap on my 800 G1 MB. The PSU adapter worked like a charm but I do have the USB warning when first booting but considering I leave the system on all day and the USB ports work fine, it is just a once a day annoyance. Other than that it is a sweet to have the MB in a much nicer case with a 600W PSU. I should have done this long ago. And it worked out even better as the thermal paste was getting pretty dry and needed to be replaced on the CPU and cooler. Thanks for the great video and all of the information on doing the swap!

I love, love love using HP ProDesk 400 (G1/G2) and 280 (G1/G2) upgrades. They take regular ATX power supplies (no adapters needed), support E3 Xeons and are EASILY turned into gaming PCs. Sometimes for longer GPUs, I dremel out a tiny piece of metal (second hard drive cage). I don't case swap, because it's not worth it imo (not until GPU prices allow me to turn them into $500 systems again). Those $250-300 systems with a $20 PSU and old GCN 1.0 cards are great entry level systems for a lot of kids.

update to the my upgrade. i was having errors where the motherboard would not boot but that was because of the cable i purchased from newegg. purchased the one from your link and everything worked. then i was having the usb and front audio issues but i fixed that now i found the original cable from the chassis and now i have no errors and super fast boot up. i had to cut the chassis apart to get the backplate for the fan. i could of gone to the store to get nuts but i was already throwing away the case might as well recycle some of it.

@@ela312 The motherboard is HP proprietary product that uses 6 pin to power it. A normal PSU uses 24 pin to power motherboards, and you might get a error when using a non HP PSU. You can use a 24 to 6 pin adapter that is intended for HP products and specifiy what PC model it is for, you can search for "PSU Main Power 24 Pin to 6 Pin Adapter Cable 30cm for HP EliteDesk 800" and use whatever PSU aslong as you have the correct adapter.

I'm doing exactly this, with the same power adapter, but when i try to turn on the computer all i get is a green blinking light. The only hint i have is a review with a similar issue that mentioned the standby signal being wrongfully sent, but didn't provide a solution for that. The HP I'm moving to a bigger case is a HP Elitedesk 800 G1 SFF, model number TPC-F046-SF. If i just plug the oriiginal PSU, the computer boots just fine, however if using the comeap adaptor and a normal PSU: When turning it on, it doesn't spin fans or anything, all you get is a green blinking led on the motherboard, steady and continous kind of blinking. The idea was to add a spare GPU i had to it, which is a HD7970, and the test have been done with 3 different PSUs and with or without the GPU, same exact result.

the bigger case just makes it so much easier to work on plus you can cram in more drives with a sata card - the 4th gen intel is decent and ddr3 is cheap - hp is solid - refurb value king - it blows away sbc.soc boards - no comparison - i think getting boards is best way to go - people probably want z440 v2 for max performance? the z420 is an option as well - can run 256gb ram

I'm looking to upgrade my fans only in a stock HP 800 G1 tower, I read somewhere the pin config on the Case Fan connectors is proprietary and you can't just plugin any fan to the headers. Do you know if that's true or? I don't want to start a fire xD I know it has at least 1 SYS Fan header and 1 CPU Fan header.

Hey can you help me? I have a hp Z230 SFF. I bought a 500W psu and im moving the MOBO into a h510 elite case. My psu is a Thermaltake smart series. Comes with main pwr connector 20+4 pin, 4+4 atx pin that i plugged into the cpu pwr, sata 4 pin i used for two SSD, pci-e 6+2 pin (x2) one 8pin went into my Rx 580, peripheral 4 pin and a fdd 4 pin. I planned on putting one 6 pcie pin into the main power connector. The pcie pin fits into the main power connector. But the shapes look a little different. Also the 6 pin thats above the sata power. I don’t know if it matters if i use that or not. So do i even need the 24pin adapter?

you have to use the adaptor or it won't work, you can short out the board. When you buy the adaptor make sure it is specific to the z230 as other models look the same but are wired differently.

unfortunately the way the hp6300 mobo layout is, it is not transferable to a typical case. since the 6300 is the q75 chipset, best bet would be is to take the cpu memory, and other components and transfer them to a newer motherboard so you can use a better case and psu.

I was planning to make mashup upgrade with most of the parts other than MB+CPU coming from G1. I only need to buy DDR4 ram to the G2 if I proceed with my plan and have also a narrow GPU for it. Those HP’s are dirt cheap because G1 MB has some issues and G2 is missing half of the parts that I would get from G1 so it would be great combo if only the PSU plays nicely with the G2 motherboard…

@DLM tech garage, I have a question though, the CPU fan, is there any 3rd party fan recommendation or maybe you have found that fits this motherboard?? I'm looking to do an AIO cooling system for this one, but haven't found anything that fits, let alone the CPU fan. Any ideas? I'm looking at the CORSAIR H55, will this somehow fit? I also checked some Noctua brands for the LGA 115x but not sure if their brackets fit this motherboard... Reason I asked is that during heavy intensive CPU tests, the temps hit up to 80c and i'm concerned that the fan isn't able to keep up...I tried CPU burn and the factory CPU fan couldn't keep up

@@DLMtechgarage, after further research, I ratracted from this idea. After watching long term reliability of the AIO and the way how corrosion occurs and leaks etc., I said forget it. I watched this video review and tests from Gamers Nexus regarding proper mounting of AIO's and materials used from it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJOqoKCsZp5oqc0 and based on my conclusion, it's not worth it. I'd rather keep my PC dry and not have any leaks or corrosion etc. I'm trying now to cancel the order of the AIO. hoping it gets cancelled. while it may look nice and cool to have the AIO's, on the motherboard, my concern there is leaks going to an expensive GPU (RTX 4070 TI) or the motherboard itself, or after 3-4 years of pump failure or mechanical failure, is just not very reliable. Compare that to a decent CPU fan, as per what you said on the video, the OEM's are good enough, i mean they last 10+ years. Sure it may end up dusty but can sure be blown air and be put back into circulation.
