I've had this PC (i7 upgrade) for a couple of weeks and the only complaint is the thermals (reaching 90+ degrees while gaming for CPU and GPU). I ended up installing an upgraded CPU cooler, added three 92mm 1600rpm redux fans (1 exhaust, 2 intake). The two intake fans were installed using the black bracket on the side (had to recreate the black bracket on CAD software and then used the negative space to fill the peaks and valleys on both sides of the bracket to create an isolator gasket for the fan to only suck air from the vent holes/mitigate vibration and had to dremel a small portion of the SSD caddy to fit the fans. Now it runs like a dream but will need to rearrange the fans if I want to upgrade the GPU in the future.

I uninstalled all the bloatware - anything that says McAfee, Cortana, Drop Box, Express VPN, Microsoft 365/Office." Reboot again. 3. Install STEAM and EPIC. You'll want both! EPIC has free games all the time (Last year I got GTA5, NBA2K21, etc) so it's good to check the store periodically to look at the current free game. Enjoy it! Mine had the SATA cable already plugged into the motherboard. Installing SSD was as simple as plugging in the power and SATA cable. Even if you had no idea what you're looking at, there are only 2 cables inside the case that will fit the SSD. Whatever you do, buy a quality SSD. I went with a Crucial MX500 because it has DRAM, relatively fast, and cheap ($67/1TB). Plugging in a new fan is a little more complicated because you'll have to buy a splitter for the fan cable. I think leaving the casedoor open is good enough, really.

85's starting to get a bit warm on the CPU. Try to get some more airflow into the case by adding a fan like me, and consider upgrading the rear case fan. Those are cheap upgrades that might drop a couple degrees. If no luck, I would start looking at a new CPU cooler. I think the GPU is fine at 75-82 but if you want to cool it down, try adjusting the fan curve and make it a bit more aggressive. The less popular option is to set a lower max CPU speed. Power Options -- > Advanced Settings -- > Processor power management -- > Maximum processor state -- > drop it down to 80% or so, and it won't work as hard (less heat). You'll lose a few FPS in games, but the computer will run cooler. If you're unhappy with the performance, you can boost it up to 90% and see if you're OK with it. You can do similar with the GPU. On my work PC I have a 1070 that runs a little hot in my super quiet case. I underclock the core 200MHz and memory 100MHz. It keeps the temps down, and I lost maybe 3FPS in games. Not a big deal, I'm happy with it.

Depends on what you want to upgrade. You won't be able to put a high power GPU in it because the power supply can't be upgraded. Example the 3060TI uses 200W, and you can probably upgrade to a 3070 (220Watts), but not a 3080 (320Watts). But who knows, maybe future generations of GPUs will use even less power. But check this out. An old Nvidia 980TI runs at 250Watts. The 3060TI is 66% faster and runs at 200Watts. Power consumption has been trending down over the years and I expect that to continue. Who knows maybe the next gen of 3080 equivalent cards will only use 200Watts and you won't need to upgrade the power supply on this PC.

@junbox6182 жыл бұрын
That's a great deal but the performance will be closer to a 3060 system; about 25% slower GPU than my 3060ti. Should be a lot of black Friday deals popping up. I'm shopping for a 3070 for myself

DUDE that was a really good deal. With promo codes 5GAMER2022 and JULYSAVINGS it was down to $836. But keep in mind the 3060Ti is about 30% faster than the regular flavor 3060.

@@junbox618 what does that mean (30% faster) . Learningu
@junbox6182 жыл бұрын
@@xneutralgodx the 3060TI is roughly 30% faster than the regular 3060. In terms of real world gaming performance, it could be the difference between 150FPS vs 120FPS which would be noticeable if you're running a 144hz monitor. On a slower 75hz monitor 120FPS vs 150FPS wouldn't make much difference since the monitory can't display all the frames.

By chance, were there any crashes since replacing the ram in your 15l? Saw the links in the description - just asking because mine came with the stock 8gb (thinking I could upgrade it myself) and turns out both the ram pairs I've tried either caused crashes in every app and game or failed to boot entirely. I tried corsair and crucial 16gig kits beforehand
@junbox6182 жыл бұрын
Nope no crashes with over 20 hours of heavy gaming! I didn't have to go into the bios to recognize the full 3200 speed or the extra chip. We get our ram usage over 10gb regularly and it's been solid. On install - be sure to shutdown and unplug the PC, then hit the power button on the front to let out any residual juice. The ram chips pop out and pop in easy with no tools.

hello! i was considering on buying this pc and i have some questions. Is it gonna be fine if i wont modify it by adding better fans etc.? Is there no risk in using this computer to play games without fear of gpu/cpu overheating?
@junbox618 Жыл бұрын
Stock it's a little fire box with only a single small rear fan. The case will get hot to the touch, hardware will overheat and your games will be throttled back. With the case open it's fine because the hot air can escape better. Adding a fan up top like I did dropped CPU and GPU temps by a few degrees well within safe limits.

Thanks for the great video. I am not a gamer so I am trying to find a decent pc for under a $1,000 and this one interests me. I have a couple of questions. How many SSD cards can be added? I am thinking only 1. I would like to upgrade the os ssd to 1TB using acronis to clone the ssd that comes with the pc. What is your opinion on this? Great suggestion about removing the air circulation obstructions which also can retain a certain amount of heat as well.

You'd have to run a smaller liquid cooler that can fit on the side of the case. Personally I haven't had overheating issues so I'm not going to dump any money into a mostly proprietary system

I have this PC (with 16GB ram) since a few days and I can say it runs great most of the time but it randomly froze a few times. Is this normal? Should I worry or could that be a cause of the temps? I want to do some mods eventually but I want to make sure that the PC I have is not faulty (I can still return it since I bought it very recently).
@junbox6182 жыл бұрын
Check your temps - if it's running too hot, I would think the CPU would throttle back but not freeze completely. The temps I showed on the video seem stable for us. We've had brief hiccups during gaming but that could have been our internet connection. Have you installed all windows updates and removed bloatware (like McAfee stuff)?
@chokegang2 жыл бұрын
@@junbox618 yes i have updated all the drivers and removed bloatware. The freezing sometimes occurs when I don't have a game open. What is seen as a high temp? If I game the temps reach to a maximum of 85 degrees Celsius.

The only downside is that with intensive games it gets slightly hot and the fans start become noisier. (You can also run the fans max speed, its a lot noisier but it keeps everything cool). But i dont care about the noise honestly, Im happy with my purchase

After more intense use, we started seeing GPU temps in the 89C range. We took the side cover off and added a 120MM fan on the top blowing hot air out and we got it down to 86C. This case is incredibly small and no ventilation in the front to add a fan for airflow in.
