HPE G10 Backplane Trips E-Fuses - Repair (PWJ232)

This was the second time we got a HPE Gen10 server with a defective disk backplane for repair. In both cases, a capacitor on the 12V supply rail was shorted and the internal e-fuses tripped. But this time I cought it on camera :-)

The best HP servers were G7. G8 fail very often because the flash chip for Intelligent Provisioning fails. For unknown reasons, HP decided to solder that chip to the mainboard instead of using a removable SD card...

@@PlaywithJunk And to make it a bit more difficult they were BGA NAND memory too, I've replaced a few and had no more problems. Apparently things got better with later firmware.

@@SiaVids I can't replace BGA chips myself. But I found a company that can do that for a reasonable price...

Regarding firmware... the Gen10 servers have a lot of firmware related problems. It started with the new Intelligent Provisioning that had bugs like a rotten fruit. I had a couple of G10 servers that had to be replaced because they refused to start after a firmware update. Fortunately most of them recovered in the workshop after resetting everything to defaults.

Hope the replacement is at least 25V rated, also 25uf? I know the usual ratings are 10uf, 22uf. Soft term or open mode would be perfect.

These are all "recycled" capacitors and since they are from 23 to 26uF when measured, I wrote 25 on the container. I this application a few more or less uF's don't matter. And because the "new" cap is of the same size, I assume the voltage is correct.
