NOTES & A CORRECTION:
-Correction: When talking about Giger’s Birth Machine, I say that the 1965 version is his first iteration. This is incorrect. There is an earlier version, made in 1964 that I didn’t find it until I was nearly done editing.
-As Scorn doesn’t label anything, I use a lot of terms at my own discretion. I have no idea if the tree is actually a tree or supposed to be a tree, I just kind of think it looks like a tree.
-When I say ‘biomechanics’, I’m not referring to the actual word, but the description/name Giger gave his own art that has now become a style of its own.
-I tried my best with the pronunciations!

Thanks for having a thoughtful take on this game. Most 'critiques' just vomit out everything the art book says and call it a day

this is one of the more interesting interpretations ive seen of this game. Taking it more as a metaphor rather than trying to nail down the nitty-gritty details of the literal world.

Wow that was impressive! Great job Tyler! You deserve a much broader audience than what you currently have.

Wow, this game looks disgustingly beautiful. Mesmerising with visual horrors. I am fan of neither horror nor survival games, but your video was interesting despite that factxD Great introduction of this title for me and nice analysis. Thanks!

Great video! :) My interpretation of the story was slightly more literal. It seemed to be that the aliens were experimenting with creating different life forms to power their machines. Their earlier iterations were the robots we fight near the end of the game. But they later moved on to creating more natural creatures (humanoids like the protagonist). Because they were still experimenting and designing these new life forms, that's why so many of the humanoids look so different. They're all prototypes. I think something eventually went wrong, leading to the ship being overgrown with biomass, and the aliens tried to flee through the portal near the end. I wonder where the portal leads. Maybe Earth, leading to some sort of human origin story? It is really strange how humanoid a lot of the creatures are. In my headcanon this is what the Prometheus film should have been like :) a creepy origin story about where humans came from.

Incredible and well-written analysis of what looks like a really fascinating game.

The origin of scorn is the movie metropolis 1928. The whole movie basically reflects what the past of scorn's world was. They transfered consciousness into a robot, similar to scorn. Metropolis also had a working class and the upper class who basically lived free. Similar to the mold men in scorn being slaves and or being used as material and the folks who got to transfer their consciousness and move into the new world. I'm guessing metropolis ran out of resources and had to turn to living things being used up, which caused a revolt of the lower class and wiped out all intelligent life. That's my theory.
