Earlier I made a video talking about this faraday bag from Mission Darkness. I was still waiting for its arrival so I could not test it like I wanted to at the time. In this video I am testing the bag for all of the claims that are made from MD. Will it pass or will I lose $1000 in equipment? Links below to get one for yourself if you are satisfied with the results.

They are great bags! I am in talks with them now about maybe a larger design for ham radio operators to carry various equipment like a base station with power supply and accessories. Video should be coming out soon on what I find. If you decide to go with one of these keep in mind the dimensions on the inside. I think I would be able to fit an HT, cell phone and a couple backup batteries for the HT and that would be about it. Thanks for watching. 73!

Whether or not it blocks EMP unlike radio singal where it blocks the signal with EMP the cage blocks the EMP but the cage still becomes charged so you still have to isolate what you put in it from touching the shield. I would put your stuff in a small dry bag then put it in your shielded bag. Good luck

I have quite a few mission darkness, and a couple of go dark bags. I love them all. The only thing is as you use the regularly, the fibers that block the magnetic field due break, and they start allowing signals in. The biggest issue I had was with key fob bags breaking. go dark key fob. I’ve been carrying that one now for about a month and I love it. I’ve started after I start my vehicle, putting my key fob in the holder and it immediately comes up. Tell me key fob has left the vehicle. It does not affect the vehicle performance once it started though.

These are great bags for your back up phones & comms equipment. Protection from EMPs is a must these days, I say back up equipment because an EMP can happen at any time. If you happen to be using the equipment during an EMP or solar event, it will be out of the bag, and obviously unprotected.

what app do you use for test? BTW the waterShed military small pouch is best, applicable for scuba deep usage based on the embedded valve. But as they dont sell it to private person I have to go for this one. Only because its double water seal. Normally just a small mu-metal fiber cover is enough to protect from anything emp like but as waterShed is not selling it (only for special forces as you can carry amo deep under water ensuring it wont fail while using on surface). Some dudes use mu-metal fiber bags to cover modern car keys from signal spoofing (e.g. m5 competition is mostly stolen via antenna and radio signal spoofing). Looking forward to what extend it is really submersible

If you want to protect a small HT like that, you don't need a Faraday shield. Just take the antenna off. That's how EMP will get into it. EMP is RF, after all, and the power is mostly at frequencies below where the radio works. It's too small to pick up much electric field without the antenna. OTOH, if you want to keep your cellphone unmonitored, that's a way to keep it from blabbing on you. (My perspective? Retired RF engineer. Worked in aviation; military for 18 years, civil for 20. EMP was something I studied.)

Hey there! I appreciate the tips. This was more of a test to see if the products performed as advertised. I search for new products and before I put my name near a company I want to make sure that they do what they say and say what they do. I think adding any thing that can protect an investment such as what we spend in ham radio is a good thing. Thank you for watching and for the comment. 73!

What about portable electric generators and other non-coms devices - how do you protect those? In light of what you said, do they likewise not require a faraday bag? Just Unplug them?
@SiGraybeard
@SiGraybeard Жыл бұрын
@@sayNotoBrooklyn83 The most dangerous thing a generator will face is stuff coming over the powerlines. Powerlines are mile after mile of what's basically an antenna (same with phone lines). It would be safer to not have a generator connected to the house power in any way. Is that enough? I think so, but it's not my life I'm betting. Since you're specifically asking about a portable generator, you probably don't need to think about wires from it to a transfer switch like the more permanent back up generators, but how well that transfer switch will protect a generator from the house power lines is a big unknown.

Heard that these types of bags (regardless of mfg) don't last very long and eventually leaks signals. Have you done any long-term testing with it? Curious if you've been using it regularly and if it is still working over a year and a half later.

I still have the bags and they seem to work just fine so far. It has been a while since this video and the bag is still in brand new condition to this day, but I also take really good care of my gear as well. I've had my Mission Darkness bag, the exact one used in this video for about 1.5 years. It just stopped working.......I've treated it well and it looks brand-new. It cost me $95 + for this thing. I'm pretty pissed. I'll make my own next time if I have to pay $100 bucks a year for a bag. What a rip-off. I'd rather they charge $180 and have something reliable for at least five years. You can make one with a metal window screen....so that's what I'll do.

You may misunderstand the purpose of the bag. It is for EMP signal protection, not a direct strike from electrical current. For EMP, it seems to work just fine. Nothing will survive a direct contact electrical surge. Thanks for the comment and for watching. 73!

@@HR4NT thank you. I’m learning how EMP travels. It appears they travel like a big explosion of an invisible bubble growing growing grow until it reaches its max distance. It harms electrical currents as well as devices that are not hooked to electric grids such as phones or radios. So my thought is….how can a home EMP device hooking to a circuit breaker box prevent EMP damage, when those same devices (fridge, freezer, microwave, radio, desk top computer) also have the invisible bubble wave go through the devices just like it hits a cell phone in a pocket.
