One of my absolute favourite aspects of creating these Beards 'n Cars reviews, is those special occasions when you find a car which thoroughly surprises you in the best ways. And with the outstanding Jaguar XFR - that was precisely the case.
A car which it seems more than just myself have found easy to underestimate, given how many more people clamour over cars from BMW M and Mercedes AMG, yet overlook these supercharged modern muscle gems. Well its their loss, which makes my car of the year 2020 all the more of a bargain brawler on the used car market!

I have owned a XFR for over 5 years. It is easily the best car I have ever owned. It is one of the best I have ever driven. The steering feel is better than everything except an old 911 or a Aston Martin V12 Vantage. The power is better than anything in it's class. Why? because the engine has a mountain of torque with no lag. It has a special variable cam system that can go from 32mpg cruise cam to race car engine cam in 5 milliseconds. Even better the ZF quickshift transmission has a locking torque converter in ALL SIX GEARS. Without downshifting you can pass people before they have a chance to react to close the gap. It is so enjoyable and effortless; true luxury to drive stress free ebbing and flowing as you please and not being cockblocked by whomever. It can remember all the shifts you requested and jump multiple gears on agressive deceleration and has 200millisecond shifts. Speaking of decel, the brakes are 380mm and the best and cheapest to maintain out of all its competitiors. AMG63 brake rotor is $1000.00+/per rotor. M5 is $1000.00+/per rotor. Same for the RS Audi. You can buy replacement rotors AND pads on ALL 4 corners for under $300 for the XFR. Speaking of the maintaince cost, If you look up a water pump (wear item on any lux car) for a M5, AMG63, RS6 blah blah is $700+ parts cost. You can buy a XFR water pump for $68. That theme follows on all the parts. They are not expensive compared to the performance sedans. XFR is not only the cheapest to buy, but miles cheaper to maintain by a factor of 10x than any AMG or M or RS. The best part about this engine tuned with upper and lower pulley, Arden headers/x-pipe/75mm dual varex exhaust you can break 700HP with this engine and because the XFR is lighter and bests them on drag cd than the M, AMG and RS will walk them. It has a better drag cd than any AMG, M or RS @ .27 for prefacelift and .31 for the XFRS. Tuning wise, the ZF6HP28 transmission in the Jag is internally the exact same transmission as the Ford 6R80 in the Mustang, and subsequently you can use all the billet parts for the 6R80 to build the 6 sp in the earlier 09-11 XFR to handle 1600+HP. The 8sp in the 2012-2015 is not buildable. So this car can take you from mild to wild. It has been more reliable than either one of my two V8 Lexuses and my 4Runner Ltd. I went over 5 years with the only money being spent on oil changes and a $28 trans cooler hose from the dealer. I just recently went through the car and did a bunch of preventative maintaince in Feb. Runs like a scalded cat. Still looks beautiful. Still makes my heart beat faster, and I still look forward to driving it everytime. I'll sell all my other cars before I sell this.

I tested the M6 and XK-R and the XFR was the one that had me dipping into my bank balance. They are just awesome and great to live with. In dynamic sports mode it is off the chart fast. On the motorway I achieved over 35 MPG

I've had my XFR for three years now. It's done everything from family holidays to track days and it's absolutely brilliant at all of it. I don't see me replacing it any time soon. The top speed limiter doesn't work until you get in to top gear, which you don't need to do until you get to 180mph.

This reminds me of my former boss in the 90s driving his Jaguar. But this one looks even better. Like you say John Wick vs James Bond.

My XFR is my baby, its very precious to me and i had options for m5 and c63 amg and a porsche panamera, but as you said, the XFR takes the cake easily, i have also tuned my car to 700 bhp and 750nm of torque with just stage 1 and a supercharger pulley upgrade,Now i beat lambos and ferraris with a glass of scotch and a cigar in my hand, the british style!

Great review!! I have one! I bought the face lift model 2012 a couple of months ago, AND I LOVE IT!!! It takes your breath away every time you open the garage and look at it, and of course much more so when you drive it!!! It dominates with sheer beauty and power, and that fantastic V8 puts a smile on anyone's face in an instant..... As you said it's perfect...... WHAT A CAR!!!!!!!!! 😎😎😎😎

Great video, pretty much my thoughts exactly! I went from an SV8 to an XFR after having hot hatches for years. I ran the XFR for just over 2 years and loved it so much. I sold it just over 3 years ago and still miss it to this day (even though the daily is a brand new M140i!). I will get back behind the wheel of an XFR.

I've had mine for over 5 years now - mostly as a second car. I've had some of the common issues - the temperamental A/C one being particularly annoying - but it's been good overall. Glad I went with the Jag though rather than a M5 - to me a V8 is the best engine as it just rumbles away at low revs, as mentioned in the video. It seems that engine tone gets deeper the more cylinders you have - until you go past 8 cylinders, when the engine note turns upwards again. And most of the 10+ cylinder engines only seem to sound good when they're being thrashed - the V8 in the XFR just sounds good all the time :-)

I’ve had one about 8 years ago. It was a 2010. Awesome car. V v v quick. It once kept a 458 honest on the M621. The sparkly new Italian,at that time, been pushed along, not gaining an inch & eventually moving to the inside lane to allow me past. The look of frustration must have been magnificent when in the dark he must have thought it was a Mazda 6 up his 3 chuffs.

I've had my XFR for 18 months, and it is everything that I hoped it would be. The only change that I have made is to replace the exhaust with a Spires stage 2 job, which sounds utterly epic. It's used for the school run, for the commute (back when we commuted) and took me on an amazing road trip to Scotland last year. It's a glorious machine!

Bought my 2010 xfr in July and couldn’t be happier. This video reinforces all the reasons I made my choice after considering so many other options.

I just bought a black 2011 XFR this week on the auction site Cars and Bids without ever driving one based on your commentary about this one. I could not believe the value per dollar for what you get spec wise. I’ve loved the style since I first saw the new ones on the Lincoln Jaguars Dealers lot in 2011 when we were picking up my wife’s 2011 AWD Lincoln MKS, unfortunately not the turbo Ecoboost. Back then I really didn’t look at the mechanical specs because at $80,000 it was not something that was not remotely in my budget at the time so until recently I never took the time to research them. I needed a 4 door that would replace three cars I own, the Lincoln MKS(a fine looking reliable car for 130k miles just boring to drive), my 2008 Saab 9-3 Aero with tuned V6 turbo and an 2006 LS2 automatic GTO/Holden Monaro (I have 3 including a Supercharged and a twin turbo both 6 speeds) so I was looking at all the super sedans the last couple of months of the 2010-2013 vintage almost buying a Maserati Quattroporte, an AMG CLS 63, an M5 and a CTS-V2 all well over twice the money that I just paid for the XFR. The closest contender for me was the CTS-V since I can easily work on those and am already familiar with the drivetrain and a number of friends have them but I have never cared for the angular styling and there are a lot of them around where I live. The ability to change a pulley and add a tune and be at or above the of the power levels of those for a $1000 is appealing. I cannot wait for it to arrive.
