Today's video:
Where on earth is Hua Hin? We have heard of so many famous Thai places, but this lesser known seaside town is a hidden treasure which we have discovered! Hua Hin is about 3 hour’s drive away from the capital city of Bangkok, and promises to be a delightful, slow-paced town with amazing food options and best of all, a current retirement home-ground to about 5,000 expats!
Well, after we have spent some time here, we found out that Hua Hin is actually a popular destination for retirees due to its beautiful beaches, vibrant culture, and affordable cost of living.
Hi everybody, it’s Fran and John here, the Corporate Breakout Couple. We retired in the year 2020 in Singapore at the age of 40, and moved over to Penang, Malaysia in 2022. One of our passions is to travel around the world to look for potential retirement destinations where we can pleasantly discover unexpected things about the places we visit, even after we have done extensive research before going there.
We make it a point to conduct a detailed analysis of the various required costs for a Retiree to stay in the locations we visit, such that our viewers can have an in-depth perspective of the possible retirement destination. Creating videos like this give us joy as we endeavour to provide the most accurate representation of the places we visit to our viewers.
This video will cover categories such as food, groceries, shopping, accommodation, attractions, getting around and lots more! Towards the end of the video, we will round up with a realistic Retiree’s Budget.
All prices provided in this video is in Thai Baht and American Dollars.
We hope you enjoy watching this video, do let us know in the comment section if you like it! We welcome any queries. Do share this video with your friends and family!
With lots of love - Fran and John

Hey Guys, My wife and I really love your channel. We are also early retirees from back in 2019. We escaped Silicon Valley and are loving living in Washington state. However, having worked and lived in various parts of Asia, we are looking forward to making some trips back to Thailand, Singapore, Korea, etc. You guys really brought up a bunch of great ideas here. We also own a number of investment properties. Thanks for covering all the really important points. We look forward to watching more of your videos.

The food introduction makes me salivate even if I am a native Thai of 71 and still going strong. I like duck noodles as well as duck meat on rice with gravy and pickled pink ginger. It's a common dish found practically everywhere but so delicious that most westerners rarely review in youtube. BTW, it's not a tuk tuk but a baht bus or in Thai vernacular Song Thaew (2 rows) where passengers sit in 2 rows facing each other. A tuk tuk is a 3 wheeler can accommodate only 2-3 passengers. A baht bus is a 4 wheeler can accommodate 4-10 passengers, depending on the size. Usually a tuk tuk is a tourist scam, asking at least 100 baht. A baht bus is a fixed price, plying along Sukhumvit rd, I think.

We spent three weeks in Hua Hin earlier in the year after visiting other Thailand destinations and absolutely loved it. My wife is Filipina and we split time between Philippines and US. Hua Hin is definitely in our long term plans for extended stays in the future. It really fits our lifestyle and all services are all readily available. Can't beat the vibe and the pricing is definitely reasonable.

If budget is tight go further up to Rayong or Cha-am beach/seafood area. Foreigner to own landed house just setup a fake company with X2 Thai partner (rural old folk). Is very commonly practice among the C community here. To know this area of Thailand is safe, just observe did the motor-cycle rider just place their helmet on the motor-cycle parked w/o worry of losing. The last thing to note is able to speak simple Thai can make a great difference in Thailand especially price charged in tourist area.

You did a good job summarizing Hua Hin and I agree with your budget. Important to include those two trips per month in the budget. Beer budget, movies, golf, etc., are all in addition so I usually tell people it’s $1,600 to really enjoy yourself. I own several condos in Hua Hin and I give you a thumbs up on your summary.

@@corporatebreakoutcouple three rentals in Hua Hin. I’d say they would about break even if they were mortgaged if thats how you would calculate yield. My bet is on Hua Hin values going up when the train is completed, and the Hua Hin airport is in the process of getting international flights approved to Singapore, Hua Hin, KL, India, Jakarta and China. Covid hit Hua Hin hard like everywhere so that set things back a few years, but the kings palace and military is in Hua Hin so it should always be kept clean.

Pretty comparable in terms of costs, actually. We love both! Penang is an island, Hua Hin is a seaside town. So in that aspect, slightly different.
