Huawei P9 | How to charge it faster? (Updated)

After some comments regarding the in my opionion long charging time I wanted to find out if I could maybe charge it faster by using different chargers like the adaptive fast charger from the Samsung Galaxy S7 or the Aukey Quick Charge 2.0 compatible charger.
Let's see what happens...

From Huawei support: Your phone comes with a 5 V 2 A charger as standard, and it also supports 9 V 2 A high voltage quick chargers. When your battery is low and you charge your phone for 10 minutes, you can extend your talk time by around 2 hours. The specific length of time is dependent on the network environment. Please make sure that you buy an official Huawei 9 V 2 A charger; unofficial quick chargers will not work properly. If you need a quick charger, you can buy one from Huawei handset dealer.

+Daniel Cross unfortunately there isn't. You can get one from ebay that is sent from china. You will need an adapter for it to work. It has a USA plug.

+Daniel Cross because the guy in this video used a non Huawei 9v charger. It didn't work. An adapter shouldn't be a problem. They are only £6. You have nothing to loose mate.

If you have QC2.0 or QC3.0 even, the Huawei Processor doesn't recognise the adaptive fast charging, it's not Qualcomm Certified (Snapdragon Processor). The S7 adaptive fast charger still relies on PD1.0 and around 15-17w under 9v Quick Charge. Current delivered is around 1.5a with at 9v (charger says 1.67a max), so, you have to take into efficiency loss. Huawei use a HiSilicon Kirin 955 Processor. This isn't certified by Qualcomm Technologies. In fact it's their own similar version of adaptive fast charging, but they don't advertise it due to compatibility issues with standard Qualcomm Quick Charge USB Adapters... That's why they supply just the standard charger and a USB 2.0 to USB 3.1 Type C cable. Imagine the amount of customer service problems they would have if customers thought that their Samsung Adaptive Fast Charger (which is based on QC2.0) or an Aukey/Anker/JuicEBitz QC certified charger should work the same, but doesn't. However, if you buy the latest QC3.0 chargers which are built on USB Power Delivery 2.0, and not 1.0 with (preferably USB 3.0 or 3.1 to USB 3.1 Type C cable) you will get Fast Charging Displayed. The P9 requires 18w to trigger Fast Charging. A decent low resistance cable USB2.0 to 3.1 Type C does also work, certified by USB-IF... they have 56k pull up resistors in them to draw down power to 15w but as they can do more they are probably performing at the highest level and the HiSi processor sees this. I used a JuicEBitz one and its the only one that works, but... there is an alternative... just upgrade to newer Mate 10 Pro and they supply new Fast Charger with it.

Is it the same thing for the P9 Lite? I've heard charging times in the P9 Lite are crazy, like 3 hours.

I am afraid that the quickcharge or fast charging feature is not that good for the battery. It is same with the Electric cars batteries. You can chargé it at home in 8 or 12 hours, or you can chargé it with quickcharger in 1 hour lets say. But the car makers will tell you, or maybe won't tell but you can read it in your car manual, that quickcharging does harm the battery, so if you charge it very often on quickcharger, the battery will be able to be used for shorter time, for example, not for 8 years, but for 5 years. So that may be the reason why it is not supported in Huawei, maybe they don't want you to destroy your battery, especialy when they provide 3 years waranty. At least in my country.

hi please help me to know. I've got the p9 to in order that I had a usb type c cable of tronsmart and a charger of tronsmart that tells "Qualcomm 2.0" and I talk about the TS-WC1Q model. I'm really want to know if it will work fine with my P9 and will not cause any damage? I'm asking this because I want to leave the original charger for home use. and use the tronsmart at work and out side the the home. please help me to know!

I just bought Huawei's quick charger, I just tested it yesterday and I haven't noticed any improvements in the charging time, I still get around 2 hours even though it says "fast charging" instead of charging.... what should I expect?

My Huawei p9 lite came with a 5 volt 1 amp charger. This is pretty slow. Would it work to use my Samsung's 5 volt 2 amp charger? Is it a good idea?

Damir Franc Really? 1 whole amp won't make a difference in charging time?! When I had a Samsung and I used 2 amp instead of 1 it was hella faster.

My P9 came with a huawei quick charger (9V 2A) and when i use it it says fast charging on the lock screen, so yes it does support quick charging

saifultrains The charging circuit and port would get damaged if you try that. because it uses way more than 5V to charge the MacBook that uses the type-C charger and will not go lower. somewhere around 9-12V. Lucky I didn't try it or else I would of had a faulty phone.

I tested the Huawei Quick Charger 9V 2A with my P9 in Flightmode. Result from 9℅ to 100℅ was 1:42 Hours.

I'm confused... so is this some sort of qualcomm balance charging that needs a specific charger talking to the battery (or so they say)? I don't get any of it, even with qualcomm's tech I've seen tests where a Motorola Turbo charger will be faster than other 2.0 chargers. And my old G2 with its big 3000mah battery, plugged to an 1Amp, 5V generic Chinese charger, will charge pretty close to the numbers I see on quickcharing 2.0. Is quickcharging (on any brand) a real thing or not so much? From the numbers I keep seeing, and comparing them to my now ancient phone on a generic cheap charger, it looks as if it's more of a comercial gimmick...

No, I know Huawei uses their own tech, I was thinking on quick charging in general. Maybe it's my phone only but I can go from 0 to 100% in about 1 hour and 50 minutes or slightly less even. Other percentages are slower but not by much regarding 2.0. I think the g2 has two stacked LiPos and maybe that's why but I have to wonder what happened to battery technology after 2013... Truth is I don't know enough about batteries to even know what to ask. Anyway, thanks for the reply!

I'm 100% sure it takes less than 2 hours and I think I remember a thread on XDA about us G2 owners not getting the quickcharging thing now that I think about it. Battery was amazing on this phone, that's why I'm having such a hard time figuring out what new phone would be good for me. I really don't want to downgrade on this feature, don't really care about QHD or cameras so much. And yes, I know about the Edge but it's too big and expensive :D

I don't think the camera is all that great, at least mine has a super aggressive post processing that ruins a lot of shots. But yes to the rest, even screen to body ratio is still one of the best. I would go with a G4 if not for the terrible battery life (at least compered with the G2). One can get a brand new G4 now for around the €300 mark which is a bargain IMO!

Probably! I know I came from an HTC One X (don't recall if it was the same year/generation) which had a big bulging lens on the back that wasn't doing anything there. It didn't gave me more light or depth of field, the G2 was certainly an improvement over that one.

i get quick charging or something like that written on the phone when it's quick charging, it take less than 1h and 30 min to get it to 100%. Sometimes you need to the charger the other way in the socket to get the quick charging, even if it sounds stupid :)

It's just simple. The higher the Amper that a charger has, the faster it charges the phone. For example, I have extra charger here (not to mention the brand). Output: 5v; 3a. It fully charges my Huawei P9 for 55 minutes. From 8% to 100% battery life. Whether u believe this or not. Thanks. This is just a sharing.

If u find 5v and 3a output charger and try to charge it with your Huawei p9 or any phone. U will be seeing the differences the capability of charging. According also to the Ohm's law it concluded that the higher the amper that a battery has, the higher current it produces to the entity being charged.

they make make a fast charger for it. its available in store when you get the phone. I got mine for free with the phone.
