Yeah, I had various Japanese cars when I was young and it was always on the correct right side for right hand drive. Such a shame its always on the left now,
@tomwinch91073 күн бұрын
I learnt to drive in a Toyota Corolla (5th gen from memory) which had indicators on the right, then had a 1976 Allegro (again indicators on the right) ... Then after not being able to afford car insurance in early 90s Manchester I got a 1990 (H reg) Maestro in 95 (drove lots of hire vans and other cars in between) ... I can't remember what side the indicators were on with the Maestro, but I switched to a (brand new) Felicia in 98 and don't recall having any wiper moments at junctions, so it was probably in 95 that I got used to left hand indicators ... My wife's 97 Rav4 has right hand indicators - each time I drive it for the first time in a while I have to consciously think before indicating! Definitely the correct side as changing gear and indicating on a roundabout is hard with the more common left hand indicators Has @HubNut driven so many cars that switching sides is second nature? It would be interesting to know of any techniques to familiarise yourself with the different 'minor' controls of so many cars ...
@johnd88923 күн бұрын
My 2005 Nissan Pulsar sedan has the indicators on the right site where they should be. An advantage of a Japanese built car in Australia. The funny thing was that when I took the car for servicing , I would sometimes get loaned the UK built hatchback version of the car the indicators on the wrong left side for a right hand drive car. Was it Sunderland built? Wipers on quite a few times by mistake while loaning one for the day. Unbelievable to me that a different body version of car would have an indicator location difference. Still see lots of sedan Pulsars on Australian roads but have not seen the hatch version in years for some reason. Maybe not called a Pulsar in the UK or other markets. Something like a Sylphy Bluebird name used in Japan.

Suggested tip. Don't use a spanner and hammer on the caliper bolts as you can damage the bolt head quite easily if not fully engaged - then you have a big problem. Turn the steering wheel fully left or right (if front caliper) to get clear access to use 'ugga dugga' or breaker bar (18 inch usually enough). Your massive torque wrench at high torque setting would be ok too.

Great job. You can actually feel the noisy bearing with slightly sticking brakes. Just spin the wheel as fast as you can and then quicly touch the spring. Spring amplifies the bearing roar. I always put very thin coat of oil to the hub shaft to prevent rust and easier to get the bearing off when it brokes again.

Satisfying job, I have a 48 inch 3/4 inch drive breaker bar I bought for Honda hub nuts. If you need a load of heavy parts you should sea ship them, I have been sea shipping Raleigh Choppers 10 to 20 a time from the US to the UK and it is very reasonable if you can get someone to prepare a couple of boxes for you and drop them at a shipping office (search LCL shipments for more details). It is an important design case that the car may be expected to break down somewhere beyond the Black Stump, so repair needs to be straightforward.
