Hi Rick, I have mixed feelings about the Hubsan Mini Pro drone roll out. Hubsan was selling the specifications and asked money for pre-orders. One's word is their bond. Hubsan failed to deliver what they promised. Consumers shouldn't need to be beta testers for companies. That's what car companies did in the mid 1900's until Japan showed a better way to supply quality cars to consumers. If one wants to invest in promised new technology, buy the company stock. Consumers shouldn't need to suffer with work in progress products. IMO roll outs like this Hubsan Mini Pro drone hurts the drone industry and the hobby. Newbies are the ones hurt most. BTW, I'm a retired scientist/engineer.

Great video Rick, thanks for taking the time to go through everything in detail! I've only ever owned DJI drones and I think it's a big ask to build something to even match their products and experience. Respectfully Rick , all the hijinks we've all witnessed out of Hubsan have sapped any confidence I may have had for this product . What is it with these companies releasing a product that they just do not have ? ... and , then they raise the price !! Would have been better if they waited til they actually had a product to sell . I don't think DJI has been sitting on their laurels this whole time either , they drop the 3 and you can say good bye to the mini zino altogether . Would have been better if they waited til they actually had a product to sell . I was really hoping that they would compete with DJI , just like everyone else . They can perform all the updates they want , they have lost my interest and my business . I will be looking forward to your flight test on this . Thanks for great content !

Thanks for the post and I know there has been some things in the past that upset folks but I always look for what a company is doing today and try and judge them on that. DJI has had it's share of delays and we all remember the original Mavic Pro fiasco, which was close to this delay. I've had a little time today to test the Zino Mini Pro and for the most part it does what it says it can do. There are things that I'm not crazy about but most of them are minor issues. Hi Rick. Thanks for the unboxing review and the further explanations, based on your own experiences, with what MAY have caused the delays on delivery time and also the explanation on the pressures to get a product out to market, and the consideration that firmware upgrades could correct the issues that become evident. Doesn't really excuse Hubsan for serving undercooked product. I did not take your explanations as being an apologist for HUbsan. I am sure you will give an unvarnished assessment of this product. Look forward to it. One comment made by another person replying here, prompts me to ask if it is possible you were hand delivered a massaged unit? I had to same question pop to mind when Alimanshao's reviews appeared to be at some odds with what some others were experiencing. Perhaps he recieved a "massaged" unit to test and review? I think one way to dispel the notion that some reviewers may receive a "massaged" unit, would be if you could also test drive a unit that was delivered to the average "Joe". It's possible the disparity can be explained away as poor QC at Hubsan. Some times you get a good one, sometimes you get a lemon.
@Dronevalley3 жыл бұрын
Joe, thanks for the post and I did get a chance to fly it a lot today for the first time and so far it's doing pretty well in my testing. I don't think I got an special version of the quad as it was sent directly from Hubsan through Fedex. And if they were able to somehow "improve" the quad for me, they would make those same changes in all of them. In my testing so far, the binding to the controller was solid, I did the firmware update and it completed fine. The quad flies well and all of the comments about the excessive heat turned out to be nothing. I flew through 3 batteries without the heat "frame" on the bottom, landed it and it was warm to the touch but not really hot. It did get a little hotter when I did the firmware upgrade but was still only moderately warm. I can see that there are few things in the software that are not yet implemented (like precision landing) but I'm assuming those are coming like they were on the DJI Air 2 at launch. I did notice a little more drifting at times than I like but I'll focus more on that tomorrow. Stay tuned for updates. Rick

This drone has a big image sensor and very high bit rate video encoding - those are 2 of the main things that can give a very good image quality but reviewers have been complaining about blurry image. I would love to see an option to have H.264 for video recording - I have the feeling it can give a sharper image (depending on specific encoding hardware codec optimisations) and lower CPU usage (less heat and less battery usage). Also we need 4K HDR to take advantage of the 2 stage staggered HDR feature from the OV48C image sensor - since that's done in image sensor itself, it should not contribute to extra heat on main board. Things that are not possible to improve via firmware: I'm sad about not having USB-C ports (faster transfer speeds) and not having an SD-card slot (and drone has to be powered on, heating and wasting battery to transfer files) they should be able to cut power to everything except the memory access in order to be able to extract files from drone using just USB-Power from computer even without a battery inserted. Also focus seem to be blurry when subject is too close, even at 2 meters distance seems to be still to close to have perfect focus maybe this is more noticeable because sensor and lens aperture are bigger than other comparable drones.
@mustanghuey893 жыл бұрын
That drone may definitely make DJI take notice. A 249gram with obstacle avoidance and active track, they gotta leg up over DJI already. Just don't know how DJI couldn't do that with the mini 2 and hubsan did. I love my DJI drones I have a mini 2 and the first mavic air. I love both and if I need the active track and a little more of the special modes I use my mavic air. I hope this drone really works as good as they are saying. It will make DJI up their game. For me, the image quality is the post important aspect of any drone, aside from staying up in the air. The challenge is that image quality is somewhat subjective and what looks good to me may not look good to others. You see this in the TV sector as well when some folks love the Sony picture versus Samsung. Either way, I appreciate your support and will be posting new clips soon.
@gregb493 жыл бұрын
It has a 1/1.3inch sensor and I bought the ZMP on that basis. The picture quality doesn't quite live up to expectations, yet. As someone pointed out to me, photo and video quality have more to do with the software these days as demonstrated by some excellent 'phones. Firmware updates seem to be coming along so hopefully, the picture quality will improve. If not, the mini2 will remain dominant in the sub 250gm market.

Jump to 6:00 if you want to skip the upfront yammering. The last 10 min. of the video is an explanation of the reasons for various 'complaints' already mentioned on various review channels. So, the 'unboxing' part of the video is really just 18 min. long .. if you want the concise version (and are adverse to 'techno-babble'). As a retired Sr. Electronic Technical Specialist, I understand and appreciate "techno-babble" ... YMMV. I expect this one to be better than the Fimi (Xiaomi) X8 Mini ... which, admittedly, isn't saying much.
@Dronevalley3 жыл бұрын
Bill, thanks for the post but it stung a little when you came on strong about techno-babble. I have spent a long time both personally and professionally honing my craft and exploring tech. Unlike most "tech" channels that can't tell AC from DC, I've been around long enough to appreciate the view from this amazing digital mountain we've all climbed in the last 30 years. I'm still amazed and in awe of how far things have advanced in the last 5 years alone in drones and feel that most folks complaining are missing the bigger picture. It's like they are flying in a plane doing 500 mph at 30,000 feet and complaining that the seats are uncomfortable. I would have thought that you, being in the field, would have understood that better. This clip was simply an unboxing of the product and an explanation, from my experience actually designing complex electronic products, of how hard it is and how delays always creep into the process. I wasn't excusing it, and actually said that I was frustrated as well. I was simply trying to put it into perspective. (On a side note, I have a $100 still floating out there for the V-Copter product that was announced more than a year ago with no signs of shipping yet). So you can see that I'm always betting on the future and trying the find the good in tech, just like I do with people.

Hi Rick, sorry for the rant here but your comments have reduced my respect for you and your channel down a few notches on this. As far as I can see, at this stage this is an unboxing not a review. So I dont understand how you can say anything about others who have bagged out the Zino mini who have actually used it and suggest you reserve your comments until you do. As the owner of several Husban products I too wanted this to be fantastic, but it would seem that it is far from the truth, which I should have known better, given the products I own. While I could go on for ages and support other channels who have made not so favourable comments about this new drone (some of which have been unfairly dealt with by KZbin because of Hubsan) and I hope you have not succumbed to the measly $50 offering from Hubsan to support the drone (which should at the very least should have been a full refund of the purchase price, not just $50 if they really wanted to win over people). There are a few undeniable facts, some of which have not been mentioned on any channel - This is supposed to be a sub 250 gram drone. When you add the needed heat cover, it is not less than 250 grams. While many will say that you dont need the heat shield to fly, I challenge anyone to hand catch this drone without it. I have not yet seen anyone on youtube hand catch this drone. Nobody. The marketing for this drone was that it had many functions that most mini's did not currently have. It does not. Most of these additional functions are not currently avalable. I dont care about the future. For the Premium price, these functions should have been available out of the box. Your comment around delays due to COVID are crap and not acceptable. The developed and marketed this drone during COVID. Again due to the marketing hype, if they couldnt provide the functions, dont market it as such. As far as I can see and I agree with others at this stage, that we are the test bunny's for this product. Dont get me wrong, hubsan has done well with bringing us a great dream, but they have not delivered, yet. So dont price it as a top notch product. They should have priced it as a second tier product and would have done much better. Bottom line, do the right thing here and give people an honest opinion and when you do actually get to fly it, which I am looking forward to, test out all marketed functions and let us know what you think. Dont forget to inform people how easy or otherwise it was to actually download everything needed and get it in the air. Again at this stage I know you cannot fly it straight out of the box. I am sure that I will be critised by the Hubsan fans with my comments, but bring it on. For those that do, please read my comments in their entirety and not just the bits and pieces you wish to critisize.
@dronecity16993 жыл бұрын
Absolutely spot on my friend.. My thoughts exactly about Rick's opening gambit on this product.. He's had a meeting with Hubsan and now cringe worthy apologetics before even flying it.. Hubsan delayed and delayed and delayed this Drone but when the PayPal cancellation window loomed they pushed an unfinished Drone out to their now biggest Bullshit fan boy Alimanshao in China.. And ONLY him for 2 weeks before anyone else to throw videos out that were dubious to say the least.. Damage limitation personified and any negative comments or questions you were booted of his channel.. He has even removed old Hubsan videos where he gave them a roasting for bad products.. Chris at QC Guy is cut from the same cloth.. I just hope hand on heart Rick doesn't sucum to the same tactic as I for one will call him out.. Until booted and yes Hubsan are now throwing out 30 pieces of silver cheques for positive reviews
@Dronevalley3 жыл бұрын
Bill, I'm sorry you feel that way and I hope I do deserve your respect since I am always honest with my reviews. The thing that puzzles me is that there is so much negative heat about a product that only a handful of people actually have. There have been less than a dozen of these shipped to customers at this point and I think only 3 in the U.S. that I know of. Most of the channels that are trashing it are fairly new and speculating on the many ways this drone will fail. I can't speak to the reasons for this and always try and avoid the drama. I like to let the tech do the talking and will post what I find when I fly the drone, just like I always do. I have a lot of experience with product development and tried to explain some of the delays by illustrating the onerous process of getting a product from inside the head of a designer into the hands of a consumer and it's incredibly hard, even without a worldwide crisis like the virus. I will test all of the things you mention to let you know what I find and you can make your decisions. I am a huge fan of folks buying and flying what they like, so if this drone isn't for, find one you like and get outside and fly. That's the core of why I started this channel - to promote the freedom of flying. Stay tuned for more. Rick
@Dronevalley3 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the comment but you have to remember that I have been posting drone clips for a long time and have close to a thousand reviews on the channel. In that time I have never sugar-coated a review or did a vendors bidding. The only thing I may be accused of is finding the positive tech in a product and marveling at how far these drones have come in a few short years. I am not going to dive into the drama pool on who did what to who, and will simply focus on the tech. As for the meeting this week with Hubsan, I meet with all the major vendors regularly and am lucky to be involved with their NDA releases as well so it's nothing new with Hubsan, they're just fairly new to me. The key here is, give me a chance to fly the drone before assuming I'm going to slide into the dark side.

@@Dronevalley I am so sorry! I thought I was responding to a silly ad when all I did was confusing you. I really love your channel and would never post something like this directed to you. Again, I am really sorry. Keep up the good work!

Wind Walker, thanks for the post and I stay as far away as I can from all of the drama. I'm not sure what situation you're referring to, but I focus on the tech. I'll be testing the Zino Mini Pro over the next few weeks and will post clips on what I find. Thanks, Rick

Very good take on things Rick as always in your concise well explained videos.. But also you must concider it from Hubsans business head.. They crowd funded this product with pre orders then after delay upon delay upon delay and many many disgruntled customers and the PayPal customer cancellation window looming.. They threw out the half (yes only 50% at best) finished, untested drone to Alimanshao in China, and only him who is now payed by Hubsan to give positive reviews hoping that this would be damage limitation. His videos on many occasions covering this Drone are dubious to say the least and if you challenge him in any way negatively you get barred as I did unfortunately just for wanting transparency and honesty and now Hubsan are now actively emailing reviewers and offering $50 to give a more positive conclusion to the product.. Hubsan promised the Earth.. We got the Moon.. Typical Hubsan.. When something sounds to good to be true.. Well you can finish the statement!!!! I genuinely look forward to your further reviews.. Your a stalwart to the industry.. Thank you from the UK 🇬🇧❤️🇺🇸
